Atlanta Braves Minor League Recap: 7/28
Gwinnett 3, Rochester 1
Barbaro Canizares may never make an impact in the Major Leagues, but he's been a great AAA player, hitting .305 with a .809 OPS in 1625 at bats over 4 seasons. Scott Diamond allowed 6 earned run in his first AAA start, but since then he's only allowed 1 earned run in 13 innings. Steve Marek hasn't allowed a run in July, tossing 12 scoreless innings over 11 appearances.
Mississippi 0, Huntsville 6
Julio Teheran didn't have much success in his AA debut, as he allowed 12 baserunners in just 4.2 innings. He came back strong with Myrtle Beach after a game where he allowed 8 earned, so hopefully he can do the same for Mississippi.
Myrtle Beach 2, Salem 4
Jordan Kreke continues his hot hitting for the Pelicans, and he's done almost all of it playing at second base for the first stretch in his pro career. He was a solid defender at third, so he has a chance to be a good one at second, and his bat would play much better there. LV Ware is on a hot streak as well, hitting .385 with a 1.102 OPS in his last 10 games. Brett Oberholtzer gave up 8 earned runs in just 4 innings his last time out, but held the Red Sox to just 1 earned in 5 innings tonight.
Rome - Off
Danville 0, Britol 4, Game 1
The D-Braves only got 3 hits in the one, one of them a double by Barrett Kleinknect, who played second base in this game. Tyler Stovall had a 1:1 strikeout to walk ratio last season, and he's been close to that this year with 18 strikeouts and 16 walks in 16.2 innings.
Danville 2, Bristol 1, Game 2
The D-Braves only picked up 4 hits in the second game and 3 of those were by Joey Terdoslavich. Over his last 3 starts, Ronan Pacheco had allowed 13 earned runs in 9.1 innings, but he only allowed 1 earned tonight over 5 frames. He nearly doubled his season strikeout total, fanning 13 White Sox hitters.
GCL Braves 0, GCL Blue Jays 4
The Braves only picked up 2 hits in this game and starting pitcher Eduardo Castillo allowed too many baserunners.
DSL Braves - Off

He sure did. But, in the words of Axl Rose, we just need a little patience…yeaaaaaah, some more patience…oooooh yeah. I’ve been walking the streets tonight. Just trying to get it right. It’s hard to see with so many around. No I don’t like being stuck in the ground, and the streets don’t change, but maybe the names. I aint got time for the game ’cause I need you. Yeeah, I need you. OOOOh I need you. Whoaaaaa I need you. Oh this tiiiiiii-i-i-i-i-i-i-ime.

Freeman time
In September? I think he could be a valuable bat off the bench or starting at first if Glaus misses time. during the playoff push.
60% of the time, it works every time
Do you think a marginal upgrade is worth losing a year of him before FA?

You wouldn’t lose any free agency time with a September callup. You have to have 6 years in the Majors and that time has to be on the 25 man roster or on the DL. So September doesn’t count toward free agency because it’s a 40 man roster.
I believe it would affect his service time toward arbitration, but the Braves seem likely to have him on the roster from day 1 in 2011, so that really won’t matter.
Given his level of play and the likelihood that Freeman will be the starting first baseman in 2011, I really see no downside to calling him up in September. Sure, there’s the problem of creating a spot on the 40 man roster, but there’s always somebody who can be removed or placed on the 60 day DL. The kid is a great player who can only gain from being on a bench with a ton of vets and he’s a superior defender who could take over for Glaus late in games.
