Braves Prospects Teheran and Delgado Promoted To AA Mississippi
The future of the Atlanta Braves starting rotation has gotten a little closer to the Major Leagues, as the team has promoted their top pitching prospects, right handers Julio Teheran and Randall Delgado, from High A Myrtle Beach to AA Mississippi. The pair will bolster the M-Braves rotation as the team fights for a spot in the playoffs.
This is the second promotion of the year for Teheran, as the 19 year old Columbian started out at Rome, where he posted a 2-2 record with a 1.14 ERA, 0.84 WHIP, 10.3 K/9 and 4.5 K/BB in 39.1 innings over 7 starts. In 10 starts for the Pelicans, covering 63.1 innings, he went 4-4, with a 2.98 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, 10.8 K/9 and 5.9 K/BB. His season totals are outstanding, especially considering his age, with a 6-6 record in 17 starts, covering 102.2 innings, with a 2.28 ERA, 0.99 WHIP, 10.6 K/9, and 5.3 K/BB.
Delgado, a 20 year old out of Panama, has spent the entire season with the Pelicans, putting up a 4-7 record, with a 2.76 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, 9.2 K/9, and 3.8 K/BB. He was one of the best pitchers in the league, leaving it 4th in ERA, 2nd in WHIP, and the leader in strikeouts, games started, and innings pitched.
UPDATE: The other promotions to fill those spots, Cory Rasmus moves up to Myrtle Beach, and Carlos Perez moves up to Rome. Brandon Beachy also moves up to Gwinnett from Mississippi.

Hell yes! My prayers have been answered. I am off work Thu. 7/29 and was considering going to a Stars game but couldnt think of any players on the Miss. roster worth going for. If either of tem is pitching vs. Huntsville that night I am so there.

Beachy called up to AAA also
According to Bill Shanks on Twitter. It will be very interesting to see how he does there.
wow.
very exciting time to be a braves fan.
Awesome
If I ever meet one of the Braves’ international scouts, I’m going to give them a…hug.

Any chance that these guys are in the Bigs by the end of the year?
My guess is no but I want to hear your opinion too!
that any of them are, I am not saying they all will be.

I really doubt it
Pitcher most likely to be called up, if any, is probably Mike Minor. The Braves will have a very strong chance at the playoffs by September when the rosters expand. Unless they’ve really run away with the division, I can’t imagine them taking a chance on their minor leaguers starting games.

Disagree on Minor as most likely...
when “rosters expand” it’s the 25 man, not the 40 man. Depending on what moves we make between now and the end of August, I’d expect it to be 40 man additions like Redmond, Kimbrel, Proctor, Hyde, etc. Guys like Minor and Freeman who aren’t on the 40 man roster, I’m not expecting to see in September. Maybe one, but not more.
Redmond and Proctor aren’t on the 40 man.

I thought Redmond was, I guess Diamond maybe...
not that it matters.

Question, iif they’re not on the 40man, why don’t teams scarf them up in the Rule 5 draft in the offseason?
There are rules about who’s eligible. To be eligible, a player signed when he was 19 or older has to have four years of, a player signed when he was younger than 19 has to have 5 years. Minor was older than 19, but he’ll only have 2 years at the end of this year (I know last year was only a few weeks, but that counts as a year for this process). Freeman was younger than 19, but he will only have 4 years after this season. A guy like Proctor would be eligible because he has more than 4 or 5 years of experience, and some of the more successful Rule 5 picks have been veterans who were on Minor League contracts.

I bet Yasser Gomez gets added
He may be up before Sept.
Dude IS 30, after all...
Not much to learn in the minors there.

Not starting games, no...
But I wouldn’t be surprised at all to see a pitcher or two to use out of the ‘pen and an IF defensive replacement/PR. No reason not to, particularly if we’re in a close race.

Randall Delgado isn´t from Republica Dominicana
He is from Las Tablas, Provincia de Los Santos, Panama
Wow
If these guys do good in AA they legitimately have a shot at cracking our rotation halfway through next year. Kind of surprised as i figured the team would wait till next year for these young guys to reach AA
I never would have thought that at the beginning of the year Minor, Teheran, and Delgado would all be possibilities for a rotation next year.
Wow.
Go Braves. Now just don’t trade anyone for Corey Hart or Cody Ross
Cracking our rotation?
No way. Who would they displace, exactly?

Can you see Teheran taking the same path as Jason and playing in gwinnett for 2 weeks to ends the season and starting in Atlanta next year.
no
the braves had a spot in right field and a huge need for an outfielder. The rotation spots next year will not be open to begin next year, barring a trade. I bet they finish the year at AA and split next year between AA and AAA
I agree. Heck, Julio is only 19 years old. I say let him continue to build up strength before we call him up to the big leagues.

Pitchers are different
Young pitchers have to slowly build up innings. They are on pitch and innings counts. Even if we rush them to the majors, how much will they be able to pitch? Heyward or any other hitter has no such restrictions.

I hope he gets a good taste of AA...
but then we shut him down at around 130-140 IP. Any more than that and I worry about arm issues, as he’s had them in the past.
Pitching probables for Gwinnett
Does anyone know where to find the pitching probables for Gwinnett?
http://www.whensidslid.com
That’s great news. I’m really excited about our future pitching prospects. Hanson/Jurrjens/Medlen/Minor/Teheran/Delgado/Vizcaino are a great group of young pitchers with very high upside. Interesting to see how the 5-man rotation will fill out in the next 2-3 years, especially once Lowe and Kawakami’s contracts run out.
Kawakami - 1, Halladay - 0
Updated story with the following:
“The other promotions to fill those spots, Cory Rasmus moves up to Myrtle Beach, and Carlos Perez moves up to Rome. Brandon Beachy also moves up to Gwinnett from Mississippi.”
I’m happy for these guys but kind of pissed at the same time. I was going to get to see Perez pitch in Danville on Sunday, but now he’s gone. Oh well, maybe I can catch him in Asheville on the back-end of my trip.
ever been to a game at the very nice little park in Rome? its only a 72 minute drive from your couch.
You can get to his couch in a car?

So who left to make the room?...
I saw Reynoso getting cut, but who else is gone to open up the spots? Beachy replaces ? in Gwinnett, I’m assuming JT and RD fill the slots vacated by Reynoso and Beachy in Mississip, Rasmus and ? fill the two vacancies in Myrtle, with Perez slotting into Rasmus in Rome.

Promotions
I’m glad to see all the movement! I’m kinda disappointed that Kempf didn’t get promoted, he’s 23 and has been great in his first 2 stops maybe he’ll get moved up before the end of the season.
Daaamn.
Our starting pitching depth in this system is just ridiculous. Minor is probably our 4th best SP prospect, but he’s a top 50 prospect in all likelihood. Most teams would kill to have a guy like Brandon Beachy, who just tore up AA, but he gets almost lost in our system (except on TC!).
I really wonder how Wren is going to handle all the potential SPs we have for the next couple years. It sure looks like Minor will be ready to start 2011, but we already have 6 good MLB SPs under contract without even counting him. I really think that 2 guys from the Lowe/KK/JJ/Minor group are going to get dealt. The only questions are which ones (my money is on Kawakami and Minor).

I think a guy like Beachy, who doesn’t have a long track record as a starter should either stay in AAA or be brought up as a long man at first to see how he adjusts to MLB hitters. If he finds success in that role then you can move him into the rotation or trade him. Sort of like whats happened with Medlen. I really hope Minor can become a MOR lefty that will bring some balance. If he can develop the command that a guy like Cliff Lee has, then he can be even more than that.
With Teheran and Delgado, I think both need to start next year at AA and move to AAA if they are successful. Its exciting times for sure.
I think Medlen is every bit as likely to get dealt.
Out of that group, he’s the one I think has most overachieved in terms of performance.

This is awesome news!
I live about 30 minutes from the M Braves stadium and I’m guessing its time I go and watch them, especially if Teheran or Delgado are gonna be pitching. Also glad that they’ll get to try their skills against tougher competition.
Great news
Delgado should have been promoted a month ago. I thought Delgado would be the first one to the majors out of the Big 3, but I don’t know now. Teheran has dominanted every level he has been, but are they rushing him a bit? He’s 19 and we don’t really need him until 2012/2013.
there is just no way
that teheran will be here any later than 2012 (barring injury, of course)
this cracked me up
