Braves Lyman Claimed Off Waivers By Athletics

Jeff Lyman will continue his career with a different A on his cap.

Right handed pitcher Jeff Lyman was taken off the Altanta Braves 40-man roster and was claimed by the Oakland Athletics. Lyman, a San Francisco native, was selected in the 2nd round of the 2005 draft by the Braves and in his 6 year career he compiled a 19-37 record, a 4.50 ERA and a 1.51 WHIP in 498 innings.

This season, the 6'3", 225 pounder had a 0-0 record, a 4.72 ERA, and a 1.60 WHIP in 34.1 innings for Gwinnett. He was just demoted to Mississippi where he allowed 1 earned run in 1 inning. Lyman makes his home within a half hour of both Oakland and Sacramento, where the Athletics' AAA team plays, so the move is certainly a welcome one for him. Unfortunately, the Braves lose a talented projectable arm, but the unbelievable pitching depth they've amassed over the last few years should easily make up for the loss.
