MLB Merchandising Question
I was watching the Nats game yesterday (I live outside DC) while waiting for the Braves game to come on. Stupid time zones. When the Nats game was coming back from commercial they showed the Nats shops and were focusing in on all the Strasburg jerseys.
Now after reading about Heyward mania on opening day where the Braves weren't allowed to sell Jerseys until the bottom of the 5th(official game). And from reading the stories of the people who obviously didn't know that there would ever be another time to buy a Heyward jersey. I am wondering why the Nats are allowed to sell Strasburg jerseys before he throws a pitch in the big leauges. My best reasoning is he signed an MLB contract last year and Heyward's minor league contract was only bought by Atlanta prior to the Opening day game. Anyone have a better reasoning?

They were probably customized by the fans. You can do that, the teams just can’t sell the jersey with the name pre-made on there.

apparently they can. I’m guessing that it is a contract thing because I don’t remember the Braves shop selling Heyward jersey’s beforehand even if you wouldn’t get them until after the start.

It might be better if the link wasn’t the title.
It's deja vu all over again.

Don't think that's true. Besides that has nothing to do with the rules regarding Heyward merchandise.
I was wondering the same thing when ESPN said how SS stuff was flying off the shelves.
I believe the correct answer is the simple fact that he did sign a MLB Contract and therefore he is on the 40 Man Roster and would have most likely already picked a number for when he comes up to The Show. Therefore they could sell the jerseys, unlike Heyward who never had a MLB contract until it was purchased by the Braves before Opening Day.
