Braves Quote For The Day... The Heart Of The Team
From Jerry Crasnick's 'Starting 9,' the Braves second baseman, Martin Prado, makes the list of unexpected performers:
"I don't know if he's going to hit .300 every year," a National League executive said of Prado. "But he has really good at-bats, he'll give you a ton of doubles and he'll play his butt off for you. He's the heart and soul of that team right now."
Down 7-to-1 in the eighth inning last night, Prado laced a ball into the right-field gap that was cut off by the center fielder, most players would have settled for a wide turn at first and a single, but even with a 6-run deficit Prado hustled it into a double. He then came around to score a batter later. While that was all in a losing cause, that kind of play is part of the reason why the Braves are in first, and that kind of play will rub off on some of the other players. Ah, to have a team full of always-hustling Martin Prados.

Love that guy.
Marteeen trimmed up a lot in the off-season and seems to be quicker (at a speculative glance) on the basepaths. Makes me wonder if his intention was to lead off all along. Either way, I witness him turn that single into a double last night and it helped sustain my belief in the spirit of the game.
Offseason workout
Yeah, word is that he did P90x in the offseason. Thats even better then Matt Diaz’s wii fit workout. Is it just me, or does it seem like MLB players should have some sort of team workout during the offseason?
I’ve heard good things about this workout. I mostly don’t like workout videos…that’s what it is, correct?
Also, Prado is my boy! Keep the Prado love coming!
So I see JJ off the DL...
and Martinez sent down. Meh…
As for Prado – no doubt. I’d love to have a team full of guys like him.

To be honest
I kinda think we do. Look at our roster the highest paid players are pitchers and then Chipper. Everyone else is a gritty vet or a youngster with something to prove.
Love me some Prado though!

He’s absolutely been way better than I ever thought he would. Having said that, I still think letting KJ go was a mistake.

But not for the original reasons I assume...
just that he’d be worth the money and able to give us a good LF (or maybe he could play 2nd with Prado in LF).
This news is old....
Prado was raking last year around this time and has not stopped since. He was always a hard worker and everything for the team first kind of guy. Decent fielder with grit and fight at the plate who will give you an at bat as if it were his last. It’s always good to hear one of our players getting national notices (although that usually gears up the other teams to be on their shit against those players). Go Braves!

Thats part of the reason I love Diaz too.
Ive seen him bust his ass down the line on ground balls that most would have been out on, but he beats the throw because its off a bit or just not on time.
I used to love watch Sosa go out for warm ups during games, because he ran out.
I just wish everyone sported high socks like Venters.
The base paths belonged to me, the runner. The rules gave me the right. I always went into a bag full speed, feet first. I had sharp spikes on my shoes. If the baseman stood where he had no business to be and got hurt, that was his fault. -Ty Cobb
HIGH SOCKS FTW! they must be lucky for Venters

A baseball diamond is, most simply, the intersecting of four 90-foot baselines, and, most powerfully, the intersecting of seemingly random lives.
This article expresses my sentiments to the word. Thanks for bringing up the fact of his hustle in the 8th. I used that same inning to explain to the wife about hustle. The announcers were talking about Longoria of the Rays giving Upton his thoughts on Uptons lack of hustle. My wife saw that replay & didn’t quite understand what Longo’s beef was. I tried to explain to her the one thing you never do in baseball is show lack of hustle. And to prove my point along comes Prado w/a visual object lesson. Digging it out while being down. Love that guy & yes he is the heart of this team right now.

We should soooo clone Prado

for real
I feel proud to say I was on the Prado bandwagon all offseason. To be honest, I’ve loved his game since he came up around 2007.

I always admired how he gave every opportuntiy he was given to play ,his all.
I’m thrilled he is getting the opportunity to play everyday, he deserves it.
Washington Tribune, June 29 2010 – "The stonecutters carving Stephen Strasburg’s name onto the Washington Monument have been directed to await further instructions."
Prado is the man!
Wish Matt young would get a chance with the team, he seems like he would be the same and give that much more energy and speed to the team.

Stat compiler
Prado laced a ball into the right-field gap that was cut off by the center fielder, most players would have settled for a wide turn at first and a single BECAUSE YOUR RUN MEANS NOTHING AND TRYING TO ADVANCE IS ILL-ADVISED, but even with a 6-run deficit Prado hustled it into a double tried for second because even if he was thrown out, he’d still be credited with a single and his AVG wouldn’t be hurt by it. He then came around to score a batter later and gain one more run for his year’s total.
4/4/10
The Braves will win 90 games this year.

Prado
in the lead off role has been better than my rosterbation could have imagined. Months ago i said for him to hit lead off I had no idea he would be THIS good. He’s like our own Ichiro.
