Atlanta Braves Minor League Recap: 6/2
Gwinnett 2, Indianapolis 1
Barbaro Canizares hit a triple that Mitch Jones followed with a homer, plating all the runs the G-Braves needed to give Todd Remond his 5th win of the season. Redmond followed up his no-hit effort with another solid start, striking out a season high 10. In his last 2 starts he has a 0.56 ERA and a 0.50 WHIP. Former Brave Brandon Jones had a triple and a walk in 4 plate appearances for Indianapolis. For the season he's hitting just .217 with a .614 OPS. Sad stuff from a guy who many of us though should have been given a chance to be at least the left handed side of a left field platoon in Atlanta.
Mississippi 0, Montgomery 6
Well, the bullpen was good. Tommy Palica and Michael Broadway combined to strike out 7 over 2.2 innings. Richard Sullivan's defense let him down, but he was way too hitable, giving up 10 in 6.1 innings. It's not that surprising, since he's giving up 12 hits per 9 innings for the season. The offense mustered just 2 hits.
Myrtle Beach 2, Frederick 3
Samuel Sime continues to be a nice surprise, with 5 hits in his last 9 at bats. Still, just 4 of his 33 hits on the season have gone for extra bases. After getting knocked around in his first few High A starts, Brett Oberholtzer appears to have figured things out. In 19 innings in his last 3 starts, he has a 2.37 ERA and a 1.00 WHIP, which is so love because he hasn't walked anyone in thos games. In fact, between Rome and Myrtle Beach he's walked just 1.7 batters per 9 innings and has racked up 3.8 strikeouts per walk.
Rome 4, Augusta 2
Arodys Vizcaino hates walks. He hasn't walked a batter in his last 36.2 innings. That more than half the innings he's thrown this season. He's walking just 1.3 batter per 9 innings and is striking out 6.6 per walk. Oh, and he's only 19. All three M. Jones make their way onto the recap tonight, as Mycal hits his 4th homer of the season. I'm guessing a month ago he thought he'd never see a .250 average again. Gotta love that work ethic. Christian Bethancourt hits a double, but his OPS remains a lowly .595 OPS, mainly due to his Francoeurian inability to take a walk. Of course, he's only 18, so there's plenty of room to him to become more Heywardian.
DSL Braves 3, DSL Tigers 0
Given that all the DSL games were rained out yesterday, I'm guessing rain was the reason this one ended after just 5 innings. Either way, Abraham Espinosa pitched the complete game victory, a day before his 17th birthday. 20 year old Aris Alcantra, playing in the DSL for the third straight year, drove in Edward Salcedo, who reached on a walk, with a double.

I can’t decide if the Myrtle Beach Pelicans are the 2008 Braves or the first two months of 2009 Braves.

Anyone know where Cole Rohrbough is? Do we even know if he’s still alive?

Cause the Braves don’t want 4 lefties in their bullpen?

The guy is owning AAA and the Martinez dude has been and will continue to be a complete non-factor.
Resop or Dunn need to be with the big club.

Well Resop only has a few days left before we gotta call him up. I’m guessing he’ll get the call for Martinez and Dunn will be a September call-up.

venters choke
I bet bobby might think he will need a few more months on the farm after his 9th inning let down on Tuesday
He didn’t choke. He wasn’t even that bad, just made a few mistakes.

I don't see a problem with that, really.
Wagner isn’t really a “lefty” in that sense anyway, since he just dominates anyone. That leaves 3 lefties and 3 righties in the rest of the pen, which actually seems tailor-made for Bobby’s managing style of playing the matchups.
I’d rather have Dunn than Martinez any day of the week anyway, even against righties.

Salcedo
Had a BB and a SB today. Reports say he’s a 5 tool player hopefully we have the next Hanley Ramirez/ARod type player. I really want to see what he can do stateside most scouts have said the DSL is very unorganized baseball.
in Danville. The city of Dans.
It’s in VA.

Schafer?
I’ve been pretty out of the loop the last few weeks. What’s up with Jordan?
Sucksville
.192/.242/.263 for a .505 OPS. Only 61 AB’s in AAA thus far though, so he clearly needs time to get things going and continue to get the wrist healthy. I hope he stays at AAA all season — he clearly needs the development / recovery time.
Mycal Jones is making a remarkable rise
I have big hopes for him as our future SS & moving Yunel to 3B
I see Myke as a second baseman in the future.

Even without that I just think his body is more suited for second base. I know he was younger, but Derek Jeter made 50 errors the year he played in the Sally League, and while he’s never been a great defender, he has been solid.

Didn’t Andrus make like 60 errors in two years of the low minors? Pretty sure I was complaining about it until someone set me straight.

32 errors in 106 games as a 17 year old at Rome, 31 in 125 games as a 18 year old between MB and Bakersfield, 32 in 109 games as a 19 year old in Frisco, then down to 22 in 145 games as a 20 year old with Texas. And a 12.1 UZR with Texas.
Like I said, Jones is a little older so maybe he should be making less, but usually errors in the low minors are a by product of a guy being athletic enough to get to balls, but not smart enough to know he shouldn’t make the throw.

This
Scouting reports are much better to go off of than errors when determining the defensive ability of a minor leaguer. Especially a guy in the low minors.
that and I'd assume all fields aren't the best maintained...
like majors, and you can get a few funky hops. Not a lot, but a couple.
From what I’m seeing the fields are playing as big of a role as they used to. I think the quality of maintenance is just getting better and better. But yes, still, not even close to Major League quality.

I'm intrigued by Espinosa a lot...
could we have another in the line of young, latin american pitchers—from Jurrjens (although we didn’t sign him), to Ortegano to Delgado, Teheran, Vizcaino, Lopez, Dimaster Delgado, Andy Otero, Carlos Perez, and now this guy? The depth of our young pitching is incredible, especially if this kid can develop along the lines of some of the guys mentioned above. He doesn’t sound like he has their stuff yet…
(pay article from Bill Shanks)
But it says he “has an outstanding changeup”, which we know is the Braves bread and butter pitch, and while his heat seems a bit low (mid 80s), he is only 16 and “could eventually be around 6’5”, 200 pounds when he’s finished growing".
RSF?
Where’s he been? Have I just been overlooking these updates or is he in Orlando?
