Atlanta Braves Minor League Recap: 6/25
Gwinnett 5, Columbus 7
- M. Young 3-5 2B, SB(12), .300 Avg
- B. Canizares 2-5 HR(4), 2 RBI, K, .310 Avg
- J. Schafer 1-4 HR(1), 2K, .219 Avg
Matt Young gets his average up to .300 for the first time this year and now has 9 hits in his last 3 games. Young is having a pretty good all around season and I still contend he should get a shot in Atlanta at some point. Jordan Schafer touched off for his first HR of the season and now has a very modest 5 game hitting streak (just one hit in each of those games).
Mobile 5, Mississippi 3
- W. Cabrera 1-2 2B, 2 BB, CS(5), .312 Avg
- J. Sucre 2-4 2 2B, .407 Avg
- M. Minor 7IP 9H 2R 1BB 8K 4.03 ERA
The good Mike Minor showed up for Mississippi tonight and pitched well enough to get the win but Benino Pruneda and Tyler Palica gave up a combined 3 runs in the top of the 9th inning to lose the game. Minor is now up to 109 Ks in just 87 innings pitched this year. That is a stat I would never have guessed at the beginning of the season. My boy Willie keeps on hitting.
Myrtle Beach 7, Potomac 4
- LV Ware 2-5 2B, 2 RBI, K, CS(2), .256 Avg
- C. Harrilchak 2-5 2B, 2 RBI, K, CS(1), .216 Avg
- A. Vizcaino 5IP 3H 1R 0BB 4K 4.61 ERA
Arodys Vizcaino looks to have made some adjustments in this game and came out finished with something akin to his last month in the Sally League. Yeliar Castro relieved him in the 6th inning and promptly allowed 3 runs to vulture the win for himself. Cory Harrilchak and LV Ware posted exactly the same line score tonight which kind of creeps me out.
Rome 6, Lexington 3
- J. Hanson 1-3 2B, RBI, .265 Avg
- B. Schlehuber 2-4 2B, 2 RBI, .207 Avg
- B. DeVall 6.2IP 9H 3R 1BB 4K 3.95 ERA
Brett DeVall continues his comeback from offseason arm surgery with a fairly impressive start. Brett has allowed 2 ER or less in 6 of his last 7 starts and while his hits allowed are high and his Ks are low you have to be encouraged by his outing. His defense really tried to give it away tonight with 4 errors on the infield (one from DeVall himself).
Danville 9, Bluefield 4
- R. Flores 2-5 2B, K, .294 Avg
- J. Terdoslavich 2-5 2B, RBI, .250 Avg
- E. Gattis 2-4 2 2B, 2 RBI, K, .500 Avg
- L. La Point 5IP 3H 1R 2BB 6K 1.80 Avg
Danville pounded out 14 hits in their rout of Bluefield improving their record to 4-0 on the season. All but one starter had at least one hit and Lucas La Point pitching a pretty solid ball game. La Point was taken by the Braves in last years draft in the 23rd round and is just 19 years old. He pitched a few games last year and was solid but with some control issues. Danville also has to be trying to make my job much harder with names like Terdoslavich and Kleinkneicht on the roster this season.
GCL Pirates 9, GCL Braves 6
- E. Reyes 2-4 HR(1), 2 RBI, SB(3), .368 Avg
- D. Rohm 2-5 .471 Avg
- K. Fleming 3-5 CS(1), .273 Avg
- R. De Los Santos 2-3 .750 Avg
The GCL team knocks out 14 hits on the day but the pitching staff couldn't keep up with the offense. David Rohm continues to hit the ball and 19 year old Elmer Reyes has been pretty impressive so far with 5 RBI and a hit in a every game. I feel like for once the Braves have more interesting bats than arms on their rookie level teams.
DSL Braves 1, DSL Rangers 4 - Game 1 - 7 Innings
- G. Reyes 1-2 2B, BB
- E. Salcedo 1-3 3B, K
DSL Braves 2, DSL Rangers 1 - Games 2 - 7 Innings
- R. Luna 2-3 K, .388 Avg
- E. Salcedo 0-2 BB, K, .265 Avg
- E. Castillo 6.1IP 2H 1R 1BB 3K 1.21 ERA
Yeah there were just too many games today.

So I know most of them... really..
But can somebody make a fan post about just exactly what a couple of these teams are?
Go USA, Braves, BU Terriers, Irish, Caps, Colts, Hoyas, NU Cats, Wizards, DC United, Washington Freedom
BU Hockey: National Champions 1971, 1972, 1978, 1995, 2009
What's going on with Bethancourt lately?
Hasn’t been playing a lot lately, wasn’t in today’s game, either.
could just be some banged up catcher stuff. He is a 18 year old playing his first season in a full season league.
this.....
He did get hit with a ball during Thursday night’s game and they took him out after that (before the end of the game). Otherwise, it’s what yondaime4 said, nothing serious….
I think his shot will come when he master’s a few more positions, like 2B at least.

Salcedo
Stole home yesterday, he has far more speed than I thought. I know BA said that he had basically all plus tools but I thought that he would’ve dropped off a little from the initial projections when he was 16. I really hope we have the next Hanley Ramirez minus the arrogance/attitude.
First Look at Vizcaino...
I’d say he’s about 5’11, 180….pretty lean, but not as lean as Delgado and Teheran.
Very loose profile, ball comes out of his hand nice and easy. He has long legs that add some movement in his motion. Some extra moving parts there.
Wears #8.
He has 3 pitches that I saw…1 less than Teheran, and a couple less than Delgado.
A fastball, straight change, and hammer curve.
The fastball topped out at 95-96 early, maybe only one rep at 96 and it was very loose and up for a ball…he demonstrated better control at 93-94.
He threw his changeup for one K to get out of some trouble in the 4th. It was a mid-80s changeup that he pulled the string on. He didn’t mix in the changeup as much as I thought he might, considering he worked on that primarily in the pen before the game started.
His curveball had hitters fooled most of the night, and had moderate control of it, still fooling guys with it when it was nowhere near the plate. As Maddux said, sometimes the best pitch is a pitch that bounces in the dirt three feet in front of home plate.
He only threw maybe 67 or 68 pitches, coming out after the 5th…and I don’t believe he threw more than 16 pitches in any one inning. He pitched to contact well, and the only run he allowed was started with a Texas Leauger (not hit hard) from a LH batter down the LF line. A bunt and a deep enough Sac Fly to Right Center got the runner in.
He pitched out of RISP in the 5th as well. Of note here is that his velocity appeared to fluctuate a good deal following the 3rd inning. He dropped as low as 91 and didn’t appear to have the same feel out there. The ball wasn’t coming out the same, and the mechanics were perhaps a little loose and not being repeated. Signs of fatigue.
It was probably the right move to go get him. All in all, a lot to like. Certainly not nearly as polished as Julio or Delgado. He’ll probably be at Myrtle for the rest of this year and all/most of next year. He needs to build up the arm strength.
Hope this gave everyone some insight. Nice night at the park.
sup bro, im also awake at 6:07 AM

Jordan Schafer
maybe this modest streak with a small flash of power last night is the start of a big comeback in the 2d half, leading to a September call up.
I’m rooting hard for him to get on a confidence-building roll and be back as our starting CF next season.
Of note in the GCL...
Alejandro Sanchez, the only one of the 5 Tenerife signings not in the Domincan, started at 1B and went 2-5 in his debut. He was signed as a SS.
J. Terdoslavich
So can we call this guy “J-Terd” if he turns out to be a decent prospect?
What is both surprising and delightful is that spectators are allowed, and even expected, to join in the vocal part of the game.... There is no reason why the field should not try to put the batsman off his stroke at the critical moment by neatly timed disparagements of his wife's fidelity and his mother's respectability. ~George Bernard Shaw
