Gwinnett 7, Syracuse 4
Takashi Saito made his first rehab appearance for Gwinnett tonight, throwing a scoreless 1st inning. He was relieved by Ryne Reynsoso, who picked up his first AAA win. Freddie Freeman continued his solid week, extending his hitting streak to 9 games while driving in a pair of runs. JC Boscan is on a roll of his own, going 4-8 in his last 3 games with a double and a homer.
Mississippi 5, Carolina 4
Antoan Richardson and Alejandro Machado got things done at the top of the order for the second night in a row, combining to go 4-6 with a triple, a homer, and a pair of walks and stolen bases. Jacob Thompson had his best start in a month and a half, holding the Mudcats to 2 runs over 6.2 frames.
Myrtle Beach 5, Frederick 2
Randall Delgado pitched well as always and, as always, the Pelicans couldn't score enough to get him the win. He's winless in his last 6 starts, despite a 2.17 ERA in those games. Myke Jones extends his hit streak to 10 games. Hopefully he can stay hot when the team returns from the All-Star break on Thursday. Scott Proctor took the true reliever rehab test, pitching on back to back days and he passed, throwing a perfect inning and getting the win.
Rome 1, Charleston 0
Todd Cunningham made his professional debut tonight, playing right field. He managed to throw a runner out at second base and collect his first professional hit on a 7th inning bunt single. Caleb Brewer has been outstanding since joining the team. In 3 starts he allowed just a .140 average against with a 0.56 ERA and a 0.94 WHIP. The only knock on him so far is that he's walking too many, with 8 walks to just 7 strikeouts. Steve Kent has also been great in his return from Tommy John surgery, throwing 3.2 scoreless while striking out 6 in his 3 appearances.
