Open Thread 6/18: Braves vs. Braves Rejects...I Mean Royals #2

Good game so far. The bottom of the lineup is killing it. Melky and DLowe are a combined 3-for-3 with 3 RBI.

Braves lead 5-2 heading into the 6th.

quite a few of the Royals fans over on their sbn site are douchebags. Most of the time I like fans of shitty teams because they’re funny and know it’s a long season….but they act like the Braves are scum or something.

They’ve had top-10 draft picks for like 10 years now and they still suck.

Why Yankees games are unwatchable

Mark Teixeira was up when the Braves were batting in the bottom of the fifth. It’s not the middle of the 6th, and the Yankees are still batting, and still haven’t scored a run either.

OT: Strasburg Question

Am I the only one that thinks the Nats are being way too cautious in their handling of him? I get they don’t want to ruin him and yada yada but 85 pitches and they yank him? Seems like he could have at least gone one more. They plan on shutting him down early anyways, I don’t think 1 more inning would kill the guy.

You're probably right.

But why risk it? The Nats aren’t doing anything this year. Just let him get his feet wet and next year they can ramp him up.

"Yeah, and I have an enchanted jock strap." -- Karl Karlson

by Jacob Peterson on Jun 18, 2010 9:14 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah, you all are right

I’m selfish as a fan and would like to see the guy go another. I get the pitches limit but think the IP limit is sort of silly. Hopefully they will be stretching him out a bit as he goes on. Kerry Wood seemed like he was always had some ridiculously high pitch count so it seems like the Kerry Wood effect is a bit exaggerated since they basically beat him to death which the Nationals obviously aren’t doing with Strasburg, it just seemed TOO careful IMO.

by lingsched on Jun 18, 2010 9:17 PM EDT up reply actions

They have a limit on pitches he can throw this year

So they’re being overly cautious now so later in the season if he has a complete game going he can go that extra inning.

Also, Kerry Wood.

by Qtips on Jun 18, 2010 9:14 PM EDT up reply actions

They have

an IP and pitch count limit. The IP limit doesn’t really make sense. But hey, when you’ve got the greatest pitcher to ever walk the face of the planet, who can throw strikes that are a foot outside, you probably should protect him. Especially when you are still 5 games under 500 and 7 games out of first.

by fphjr01 on Jun 18, 2010 9:14 PM EDT up reply actions

there's a theory on young pitchers and their risk of injury as it relates to IP

basically, young pitchers are much more likely to suffer an arm injury if they increase their workload over 20 or so IP from one year to the next

It's funny about the New York Game

It started 30 minutes earlier, but we’ve passed it, despite the fact that there have been more runs, more hits, and more baserunners in this game by an easy margin. They’ve throw a whopping 12 more total pitches than we have seen in this game.

Yankees games last forever for no reason.

Like I said go back to 1975 or whenever. RBIs are all about who is in front of you. RBIs give me like 20% of information about a player. out of all the stats we have…. RBIs and Runs might be the two worst

nite everybody!

We have traded away great players for less than nothing and let Texierra walk away, and much much more so pray that Hayward is sent from God and that his energy can ignite the veterans and cause the younger players to hustle more and play winning baseball...
