Braves All-Star Update... Get Voting!

Braves fans have some work to do (but not too much). With minimal effort Atlanta fans should be able to send two of their starting squad to the All-Star game as starters. Jason Heyward is currently second in the outfield voting, but still needs your support, and Brian McCann is right behind one of the flying Molina brothers in the voting for catchers. You have until the end of the month to keep voting. Here are the ranks per position in the National League, with Braves players highlighted.

NL FIRST BASEMEN:
1. Albert Pujols
2. Ryan Howard
3. Prince Fielder
4. Troy Glaus
5. Joey Votto
NL SECOND BASEMEN:
1. Chase Utley
2. Martin Prado
3. Dan Uggla
4. Ricky Weeks
5. Brandon Phillips
NL CATCHERS:
1. Yadier Molina
2. Brian McCann
3. Carlos Ruiz
4. Ivan Rodriguez
5. Russell Martin
NL THIRD BASEMAN:
1. Placido Polanco
2. David Wright
3. Chipper Jones
4. Casey McGehee
5. Ryan Zimmerman
OUTFIELDERS:
1. Ryan Braun
2. Jason Heyward
3. Andre Ethier
4. Jayson Werth
5. Shane Victorino

No way Prado can catch Utley, but a lot of votes might help persuade Charlie Manuel to put him on the roster. Don’t know if B-Mac’s numbers are good enough to get him picked if he is not voted in. As of right now, I would rather see Glaus get picked. I doubt anyone is going to get more votes than Pujols. Heyward should make it via vote, as they take the 3 top outfielders in the voting. Now, what about pitchers?

Manuel’s already said he’s near the top of the list to be at large, and McCann’s been one of the better two or three catchers in the NL.

With the likeliness that Chipper will retire after this season, we MUST get him in the AS game this year. I don’t think he can catch Polanco but he can definitely catch Wright. I don’t think that Polanco should start, only reason why he’s got so many votes is because he’s a Philly.

Wright doesn't matter.

And Chip sure as hell doesn’t deserve the AS team this year.

I've voted 50 times now...

I voted Glaus Prado Mac and Heyward but didn’t vote for chip…i love chip but he doesn’t deserve it this year, i voted for Ryan Zimmerman at 3rd. I also voted for Justin Upton and Andrew McCutcheon in OF with JHey. I actually want to win an allstar game for once, we’ll need that home field advantage in the world series =)

VOTE OR DIE

NO WAY Utley deserves the start over Prado.

Agreed

However, Utley led by somewhere around a million votes, last time i checked.

by DawgB on Jun 15, 2010 2:09 PM EDT up reply actions

If he announcess his retirement before the All Star Game, perhaps Chipper can go then. However, I argee that his play this year, does not merit selection.

by DawgB on Jun 15, 2010 2:08 PM EDT reply actions

Chipper should go to the game but i don’t think Manuel will pick him as a reserve. Charlie Manuel is an idiot

Agreed

But, as far as I know, he has not contacted Bobby about being on the coaching staff. I would think that would be a given, as Bobby has already announced his retirement.

He’s already announced the coaching staff – Giant’s manager and Padres’ manager. And the rest? His Phillies staff. Darnit Charlie. Shoulda picked Bobby

there ought to be a rule

someone with Bobby’s tenure & credentials coupled w/the fact that this is his final year should get an automatic selection as coach to the All Star game. At least in some honorary fashion. (Thus ends my homer rantings.)

Bobby as a coach

And Chipper as honorary captain.

According to Leo Mazzone and Buck Belue, Cox was the first person Manuel contacted to coach but Cox turned him down in favor of resting at home during the break.

Why would picking the best players to win a game that now "matters" make him an idiot?

I put in 75 votes today

Didn’t vote for Chipper though. It’s a travesty that Ryan Zimmerman won’t be starting the All-Star game. Placido Polanco? Seriously? Ryan Zimmerman has very nearly been the best hitter in the National League AND he plays good defense, AND he’s at a position where there shouldn’t be a lot of competition.

Polanco still has a sizable lead, despite being MAYBE the 6th best third baseman in the league.

by Bronn on Jun 15, 2010 2:16 PM EDT reply actions

Only reason Polanco is getting votes is because he’s a Philly

If you want your Braves in the all star game, vote at least 50 times a day. it really doesn’t take that long. Glaus, Prado, Heyward for sure should be there

the scary thing………..

for every 1 Braves fan, there are 25 Thillies fans…..

disagree

there are definitely more non-bandwagon braves fans across this country than non-bandwagon phillies fans. and with the way the phillies are playing, i don’t expect very many of their “phans” to vote for their phillies that often.

As much as chipper shouldnt be an allstar

it’d be great to see him there especially with this being his final year

Freaking Phillies

Amazing how the Phils can’t buy a run, but their entire offense is in the starting lineup for the all star game. Let’s get voting. No excuses for not having Heyward, Glaus, and Prado in there!
