Braves Sign Outfielder Josh Anderson
From Mark Bowman's blog on MLB.com, here is a note about a Minor League signing of our old friend Josh Anderson:
To compensate for the lack of outfielders in Gwinnett, the Braves have signed Josh Anderson to a Minor League deal. Anderson hit .294 with three homers in the 40 games he played for Atlanta in 2008. The speedy outfielder has spent the past two years within the Tigers and Royals organizations.
He was one of those outfielders competing for the starting center field job last spring training (2009), but lost out to Jordan Schafer. Anderson was traded to Detroit for Minor League pitcher Rudy Darrow.

Welcome back Josh

Good player to have on the bench, in my opinion. His speed gives him a decent amount of value but he’s purely a slap hitter with little potential offensively. I like him a little less than Gregor, but with the centerfield options wearing thin it was a wise move to bring him back.

I always liked him for some reason. He also gives us a viable backup, should we need one in Atlanta. I would rather bring him up as a bench player and leave Schafer in AAA as log as possible, should the injury bug bite us again.
Agree 100%.

Maybe this means we'll be getting that Swagga back, too

Sweet… another outfielder with no power who doesn’t walk. Just what the organization was lacking!

He was brought in primarily to fill a roster spot in Gwinnett. He may not hit for much power, but he did bat .294 in 40 games for the Braves in 2008.
And was the Richmond player of the year.

This is nothing but a move to ensure Schafer stays in AAA all season which I have no problem with. All I know is in september in the 8th and 9th innings our defense is going to be amazing in the OF

we should extend the fences and foul lines, we cant hit many HR anyways, mind as well take advantage of the fact that our late inning OF can cover about 1000 sqaure miles
Heyward,Hanson, and Shaffer r ready now!! Why do you think they havent signed the "right handed bat"?

Welcome back Mr. Anderson
Star-divide
Well my talkingchop.com fateful looks like we have Josh Anderson in our system once again; after being released last Friday by the Brewers ATL has taken a second chance on Josh Anderson acquired orginally from the Astros a couple of seasons ago.
THis move I hope is just b/c we need depth in the OF at AAA or something b/c otherwise what does this signal ? Are you about to dump N. McClouth ? Is Blanco not doing a good enough job in spot duty in ATL and at Gwinett ?
Interesting move but I hope it is just for organization depth and nothing more; I still am not crazy about it I mean Anderson has speed to burn and can play decently enough in the field but he cannot hit at all . Seems to me to be the OF cousin of former Braves 2B Pete Orr.
Anderson again but hopefully he will come nowhere near ATL this season; but don’t be surprised b/c maybe Schafer to the majors this season is something that ATL front office doesn’t want to do. Maybe they feeled they rushed Schafer and his wrist injury needs more time to heal and he can get more quality AB’s in the minors.
Interesting move but I just don’t get it; I mean don’t we have Alex Romero in our minor league system as well ? What is it with us and former Astros OF’s lately ?
