I still remember trading for Brad Lidge in MVP 2005. You know, back before he sucked.

by J-Freak on May 9, 2010 3:45 PM EDT up reply actions

I was just wondering something about Mac....

We all know he’s not hitting. We also know his throws to second have all sailed into the outfield this season. I’m wondering if the two are related? And my theory is that since it’s only his right eye messed up, maybe his depth perception is off.

Any thoughts?

"Never doubt Derek Lowe's ability to win despite himself."

by EricGreggWasPaidOff on May 9, 2010 3:42 PM EDT reply actions

Yes

Eyes are related to pretty much everything.

No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.

by royhobbs on May 9, 2010 3:43 PM EDT up reply actions

I meant the depth perception thing specifically – as in he’s not calibrating his throws to second properly because he can’t gauge the distance correctly.

"Never doubt Derek Lowe's ability to win despite himself."

by EricGreggWasPaidOff on May 9, 2010 3:44 PM EDT up reply actions

although

i feel like he’d have trouble catching behind the plate too if this was the case

by SouthernPanther on May 9, 2010 3:45 PM EDT up reply actions

I’m not sure that’s the case. He only has to pick up the X and Y position of the ball to catch it. Z is less relevant, since it’s going to come straight to him.

"Never doubt Derek Lowe's ability to win despite himself."

by EricGreggWasPaidOff on May 9, 2010 3:46 PM EDT up reply actions

he could probably compensate a little with timing on that so it wouldn’t be as pronounced

by yondaime4 on May 9, 2010 3:46 PM EDT up reply actions

Astute observation. Anisometropia (difference in the power between the eyes) can affect binocular vision and depth perception.

When you've said Jason Heyward, you've said it all.........

by UMDBHIK on May 9, 2010 3:51 PM EDT up reply actions

I could see that

No pun intended. But that rationale makes sense. Plus it’d make you rethink each action.

by yaggiefresh on May 9, 2010 3:44 PM EDT up reply actions

most likely true. I found out after my playing career was over I was a better left handed hitter than right handed (though I was always RH when playing competitvely) because I was right eye dominant and when that eye was in the front batting lefty I picked up the ball much better. So the eye dominance may be the real issue.

They just said that any other day, without the wind, those are both gone…they aren’t blowing anything up his ass.

I'd imaging pitching with a hardon is tough for Lidge

Look at the bright side

The Braves were 0-7 on their last road trip. We’re 2-4 now this time, at least.

No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.

3 runs with this line-up is a positive……I guess

by adc62 on May 9, 2010 4:17 PM EDT reply actions

So the Phillies get 3 solo shots that don’t get doomed by the wind, and we hit two almost-goners that the wind rejects.

wild part is

that it seems like our record is so much worse. We’re 5 under for the way we’re playing and I’ll take it. We’re too good to keep this up.

It’s so rare that I want to blame the weather, but man, it sucked to see those flags whipping around and seeing balls knocked down in the sky.

by royhobbs on May 9, 2010 4:18 PM EDT reply actions

That was some seriously selective wind.

Knocked down both our shots in the 9th, but didn’t contain the Phuckers…

by J-Freak on May 9, 2010 4:19 PM EDT up reply actions

despite the total bullshit that is the wind

it was fun…have a good rest of the day fellas! Happy Mother’s Day to everyone’s mom!!!

by SouthernPanther on May 9, 2010 4:19 PM EDT reply actions

Kawakami probably made the wind help the Phillies’ balls and knock the Braves’ balls down because he doesn’t want to WIN.

16 LOB..most not due to the wind. It’s still our Achilles heal

by Wicket on May 9, 2010 4:20 PM EDT reply actions

Rather be 5 under now...

Than 5 under at the end of the season… still plenty of ball left to play.

by UMDBHIK on May 9, 2010 4:23 PM EDT up reply actions

We've been saying this for a month now.

I’m trying to maintain my sanity and my reason here, but seriously, when do we (and by we I mean the folks that are actually in a position to make the call) finally start saying some kind of change is in order, starting yesterday? We can’t just keep plodding along like this or we’re gonna look up one day and realize that it’s NOT too early anymore, that there ISN’T plenty of baseball left to play, and that we ARE screwed.

by J-Freak on May 9, 2010 4:24 PM EDT up reply actions

Then we make like the Cubs fans and say “There’s always next year.”
