The Canary (or is it Canarian?… he’s from the Canary Islands) Victor Velazques is the first player chosen from the Baseball Prospects Academy in the 2010 season and he will join a minor league team in the Atlanta Braves organization. The player from La Guancha (the team he played for I’m guessing) was signed by Nestor Perez as a catcher. The announcement was made in conjunction with the inauguration of the new installations/offices that the Atlanta Braves have set up at the Maritim Hotel, a few meters away from the ballpark. This is the fifth player that has been signed out of this academy in its short one-year existence. Like all the players before him, Victor has a long way to go to reach the Major Leagues but this group of ballplayers has already succeeded in the important first step and it is now up to each player to make good use of this opportunity that has been given to them. The Canarian Baseball and Softball Federation would like to congratulate Velazquez and his family and we wish him the best of luck in his professional baseball career.
