Atlanta Braves Fan Confidence Up Again

Whaddayknow! Two straight weeks of increased Atlanta Braves fan confidence. The FCP went from 68% confidence last week to 73% this week, marking the first time all season that the poll has had two consecutive weeks of increased fan confidence. The last time that happened during the season was last September during the Braves abbreviated playoff run.

This team sure is playing some good ball lately, starting with the comebacks, and then just good old fashion wins. The Braves have now won or tied each of their last six series. They have gone from last place in the NL East, five games under .500 and six games out of first to second place, three games over .500 and only a game and half in back of the Phillies. The Braves will have a chance to take over first if they can continue their good work against Pittsburgh this weekend, then rise to the challenge and beat Philly when they come to town early next week.

I can’t speak for gondeee, but as for me, it’s a combination of hashish and spam cubes. Why do you ask?

Doesn't get any better than this...

a hater having to endure a hot streak of wins. BTW, I was smoking a 7" Romeo Y Julietta Habana Reserve during the last game.

All the talk about the standings...

We just need to win games right now. We’re only 1.5 out of last place. We’re three games over .500. At this stage last season we were 23-24.

It would be nice to get 10-15 over .500 before the All Star break.

Keep winning every series, and we'll be fine

considering it’s Pittsburgh, we can’t slip up and let them win 2. And of course with Phily in the division, we need to get 2 of 3 from them. Just keep winning series after series and we’ve got no worries, which can easily happen if we keep having good health and the bats that were slipping continue to produce as normal.

Time To Get Serious

Play the Pirates hard and get ready for a big series in Atlanta against Philly.

Hope “The Ted” is rockin’

Kawakami is not absolute shit, but he isn’t any good either.

I think this upcoming homestand will be a good one if the Braves continue to play like they have been in the last couple of weeks.

My only worry is Philly will come to the Ted pissed off as a hornet’s nest because of their lackluster play of late and get motivated to take it out on us. We can handle them, as long as WE stay more motivated than they do.

I just hope the guys don’t come back to a lot of …“home cooking” and in turn get comfortable and lazy and forget who is waiting for us on the backside of this brief trip back home.

This is a cool feature. I like the fan confidence poll and the “view from your seat” thing, too. I want one, too…

Have to nag about this suggest the ideas to the people over at tgp.

You may copy our ideas right after you surrender Jason Werth so we can play him in LF.

Shouldn't Brent Clevlen get a shot in LF before...awww, forget it!

Yes, we will trade them ideas for Jayson Werth.

by gondeee on May 28, 2010 12:36 PM EDT up reply actions

It’s interesting to see an “other’s” view of Werth. I think we’re all on the same page — love to have him; fear the back end of a longer contract, though.

I wish the Phillies had extended him instead of Howard, but that’s unfortunately a done deal. “Old Howard” promises to age worse than “Old Werth” but I could be wrong. Also, there are lots of mashing 1B out there. Werth-like players are less common.

If the Phillies somehow extend Werth, too (which would be a miracle), the back end of that makes me nervous. I’m suffering through year 2 of Ibanez and dreading year 3. To be fair, Ibanez has picked it up in May and he’s been incredibly streaky in his career.

In that vein, the Phillies are getting old. It’s sneaking up, to be sure, but they are. Keeping Werth instead of letting Domonic Brown come up is not going to help that.

New blood should be coming into the team on a regular basis just to “ladder” your players and to maintain some semblance of cost control. The Phillies finally realized that they are a “big market” team and are acting accordingly, but they are not the Yankees or Red Sox, and having a bunch of players all celebrating their 32nd, 33rd, 34th, 35th (etc.) birthdays together may be nice, but it’s not good baseball from the business side.

At this stage, I fear the Phillies are already saddled with a Ryan Howard who will be scary (in a bad way, not scary in a Heyward way) as he approaches the mid-late thirties. Adding Werth to the old-folks home when Werth will most assuredly seek and get a minimum of 5 years does not seem smart.

All that said, Werth is a blast to watch. He’s really good in a lot of ways — he is great at working the count, getting on base, hitting for power, stealing, fielding — he does it all.

I will have absolutely no hard feelings if he leaves. If I were him, I’d want to make as much money as I can in this contract, since it will be his only shot at an FA deal. Injuries and a late start to his career made this his only realistic shot at a big payday.

If he leaves, the Phillies might plug in Domonic Brown. He seems to be a player, but you never know until they are in the bigs. The other option (overlooked) is to keep Dom at AAA next year and give Mayberry a shot. Then, when Ibanez leaves after 2011, plug Brown in with Mayberry and Victorino. Ben Francisco has been a forgotten man in Philadelphia, too. Maybe they try to keep him and work him into the mix, too and keep him around.

Who knows? Should be fun to watch.

Slightly off topic, but this is from braves.com:

“Jones drew his franchise-record 1,377th walk during the sixth inning of Thursday night’s 8-3 win over the Marlins and then added to the total in the eighth inning. The record was previously held by Hall of Fame third baseman Eddie Mathews, who played 17 seasons for the Braves from 1952-66.”

Cox’s comment on Chipper’s record was simply this: "I’ll be darned, that’s pretty good. Well, that’s the respect you get."

Jason Heyward is the reason that Chuck Norris parks his car in a garage.
