Atlanta Braves Minor League Recap: 5/27
Gwinnett 0, Louisville 6
- J. Schafer 1-4 2B, BB, 2K, .186 Avg
- F. Freeman 1-4 .263 Avg
- C. Kimbrel 1IP 2H 1R 0BB 3K 1.50 ERA
- A. Chapman 5IP 3H 0R 1BB 7K 3.55 ERA
The Gwinnett offense got shut down by the vaunted Cuban defector Aroldis Chapman (how do the Braves have the market cornered on every other Cuban defector and not this guy? Price tag I guess). Craig Kimbrel gave up a run in just his second game in AAA this season but it was the first time this season (in Atlanta or Gwinnett) that he gave up a run without also walking someone.
Mississippi 4, Mobile 8
- A. Richardson 3-5 SB(1), .600 Avg
- W. Cabrera 2-4 RBI, BB, .322 Avg
- M. Minor 6IP 7H 7R 2BB 8K 4.20 ERA
Just when Mike Minor was really starting to groove and we were drooling all over him he comes back down to earth a little. He also had a wild pitch and an error that both contributed to runs scoring. Willie Cabrera has quietly put together a 9 game hitting streak and is hitting a whopping .410 for the month of May. The only thing not to like about that is all of his hits during his streak are singles. Show me some power Willie.
Lynchburg 7, Myrtle Beach 6
- T. Jones 2-3 HR(1), 2 RBI, 2 BB, .222 Avg
- M. Jones 2-5 2B, HR(1), 2 RBI, .263 Avg
There has been so much shuffling in the Braves system lately I can't keep up. Apparently Travis Jones was demoted from Mississippi a couple of days ago after he had been pretty terrible for the whole year. That is sad to me because he spent all of 2009 in AA and was actually pretty solid, especially for a second baseman. The other guy I put up there is Michael Jones, not the same as Mycal Jones of Rome. He appears to be a journeyman minor leaguer from the Boston organization. Also LV Ware was called up and went 1-3 tonight which is funny because I watched him warm up the other outfielders in Augusta yesterday.
Rome 5, Augusta 4
- M. Jones 3-4 2B, 2 RBI, CS(3), .240 Avg
- J. Whitmer 3-3 2 2B, RBI, .355 Avg
- R. Lopez 6IP 4H 4R 1BB 7K 2.63 ERA
Mycal Jones continues to turn his season around with his third straight multi-hit game and third straight with an extra-base hit. I am still not a fan of his high K rate and low walk totals but I can't knock the amount of doubles he has been hitting recently. Whitmer is a guy who was drafted as a catcher but he was known more for the bat than the glove and it appears this season he has made the move from behind the plate. So far he hasn't disappointed with the bat, though he is supposed to have some power in it. Robinson Lopez is still good and I am still angry I had to leave Augusta today.

Really love your posts. When you deem appropriate, can you post the standings and/or records of our minor league teams?
You really don't want to know lol!
We don’t have a team over .500
I have a guess about Chapman
The Braves had a 1st round draft pick when he was on the market.

Hmmm
Interesting outing for Minor. He struggled, but he still had the 8 strikeouts. This outing sorts of kills his ERA though. Is it possible the defense really let him down tonight?
Is it just me or does Minor seem error prone? 4 errors in 10 games seems like a lot for a pitcher.

Naw it's not just you
He seems to have an error every time out.
At this point, I couldn’t care less about how many runs he allows. Since we now know his fastball is at least a tick above average (especially for a LHP), his K’s are ridiculous, and his BB’s are decreasing, I am very happy. I made dinner for my wife last night…I don’t think she enjoys crow as much as I do.

Does anybody else think Willie Cabrera looks like a dark haired Alfred E Newman? Since seeing him, he’s my new favorite on the farm.
Heyward is pretty good
He looks like Jesse Chavez little brother lol!
But he can hit though.
Myke Jones is my hero of the year. Dude raised his average 115 points this month! He’s still gonna have to do some work to make the season numbers look good, but man, that’s grinding.

he was very good tonight...
should have had more caught stealing (Augusta botched it twice when he was easily picked off), but he was smacking the ball around nice. Jordan Kreke was making several great plays defensively, and Whitmer was also drilling his doubles. I liked Lopez a lot too. He didn’t have his best stuff, and seemed a bit wild, but he has a good frame and had a pretty good motion. I think he deserves to be right in the mix with the other big time Latin American pitching prospects. I never expected Jake Hanson to be so small by the way. And also, Rose is definitely no longer switch hitting.
Great game, and great night for cheap drinks, wish you could have stayed yonda. It was a damn good game.

I meant to do a report on Rose. He’s not switch hitting in the games but he’s working on his lefty swing every day in BP. He said sometime in June he should be starting to do it during the games. Apparently his bunting skills from the left side are insane.
Yeah, I was surprised Hanson wasn’t thicker too.

Ingle gave me a funny look when I said something during an at bat by Rose against a righty...
while the people next to me and my wife asked if I’d had too much to drink.
and hanson, it's not even thickness...
he’s a bit short too. Whitmer, Hefflinger have several inches on him, plus the pounds. Just not the size of the typical big bat. He wasn’t much bigger than Harrilchak or Kreke.
Lopez
Got only allowed 6 baserunners but 4 of them scored but he still went 6 innings and K’d 7 which is cool.
Yasser Gomez played?

I love having all of the farm right here but...
would you mind putting earned runs? Personally, I’d rather see earned runs than runs but if others disagree, just ignore me.
The Jordan Schafer Fan Club.
DSL starts Sat.
I wonder if Salcedo and Gomez will play there until they get their visa issues worked out.
Holy Heyward
there were like 3500 comments on TC today. Keep that shit up guys and gals.
