Braves Quote For The Day... Chipper Jones is here to stay
From the DOB blog this afternoon, a quote from Chipper Jones:
"I called my dad the other day and said, over my 17-year career, how many times have I hit .220 and not been ready to hang myself?" Jones said. "He said, ‘Never. You’ve never been satisfied with hitting like that.’
"I said, but I’m not really disappointed with the way I’m swinging the bat now. I’m pretty happy with it."
That sums it up, he's seeing the ball well, things just aren't dropping for him. From DOB's point of view, this means Chipper is no longer talking retirement.

Schafer is making progress...
A healthy hitting Schafer would be a welcome addition to the club in July.
I love Chipper
hello I am a die hard Red Sox fan but the Braves are my NL team I think I will be here often!

you picked a good blog to join.
and if you’d like, we can get Andruw Jones back so we can finally pull off that CoCo Crisp and Jon Lester for Andruw deal.

Haha! Just a little baseball humor. Anyone that recognizes all Chipper has done for our organization is alright with me. He’s been playing his tail off for the Braves since 1995!

Chipper is one of my favorite players in baseball.

I agree! But, unfortunately, we are in the minority. I think Braves fans talk more crap about him than other teams fans do.

that makes no sense. Chipper is awesome.

As a Colts fan I seem to be conditioned not to like any Boston team and that goes with the Yankee’s red headed stepchild.
Welcome to the blog and I have no beef with you, but I loathe Boston sports to an almost irrational level.
Jason Heyward wins at baseball.

youre like the opposite of me. I am a die hard Braves fan but I cheer for the Red Sox in the AL. I love Big Papi and if Youk is pretty cool too. Anyway, really hoping you guys can take the Yankees down this year.
Cool!
Big Papi is done, sadly :(
Youk rules. Hes one of my favorites.
Oh I hope we beat the Yankees to!

The problem to me
isn’t so much his swing as his approach. He’s been letting way too many good pitches go. Sure, he’s walking a ton—even more than usual—but like many of the other Braves hitters, he seems at a loss as far as deciding which are the best pitches to swing at.
Still, I think he figures it out. He’ll never be a 25-HR guy again, but he can be a solid .280 / .400 / .400 guy for another couple years. That is just fine for the top of the order.

I almost posted a fanpost about this last night
I agree. In fact, I think a great deal of the TEAM’s problems at the plate right now are mostly pitch selection rooted. Well, that and some bad luck. I wish I could say I’ve had the time to do the analysis, but unfortunately time is not something I have a lot of right now. Still, it would be really cool to find out just how many “borderline” or out of the zone pitches we are making contact with.
Here’s what I’ve seen lately, and not just from Chipper.
- pitch 1 / Strike looking right down the middle
- pitch 2 / ball out of zone
- pitch 3 / foul ball, pitch out of zone
- pitch 4 / weak contact out on pitchers pitch

Good
Let’s drop all this crazy retirement talk. There is way too much money on the table for Chipper to just walk away.
Money's clearly not an issue for him
Not that I want him to retire, but that’s not going to get in his way.

Agreed! If he is really done, I think Larry Wayne will step aside. With that said, if he does, man I’d love to see him join the coaching ranks!
call him Chipper and nothing else.

Why doesn’t he just lead-off? The only things he’s good at anymore are slap-hitting and working walks.
I fed a fish to a pelican and Frisco bay and he tried to eat my cell phone he ran away
What’s his OPS?

Most is from OBP. I’m not knocking him, I would love to have someone getting on base at the top of the lineup.

I'm for Chipper as next year's manager of the Braves, just like Mike Socioca or however the fuck you spell his name
Senator, we have another old saying,"Don't piss down my back and tell me it's raining." Fletcher
Meh
I’d love to have someone younger who can man third consistently, but Chipper will always be Chipper.
