Braves to Retire Glavine's Number
The Braves will retire their second number in as many years on August 6th, when they retire Tom Glavine's uniform number 47. Here is the blurb from the official release:
The Atlanta Braves will pay tribute to their former pitcher Tom Glavine on Friday, August 6 by inducting him into the Braves Hall of Fame and retiring his uniform number. The induction will take place at a special luncheon and the uniform number retirement will occur in a pre-game ceremony that night before the Braves take on the San Francisco Giants.
"Tom has been, and continues to be, a very special part of the Atlanta Braves organization," said Atlanta Braves President John Schuerholz. "There’s no greater honor than inducting him into our Hall of Fame and making sure his Braves uniform number 47 is retired and finds its rightful place alongside other great Braves Hall of Famers."
Glavine’s number 47 will be the seventh Braves uniform number to be retired, joining Hank Aaron (44), Eddie Mathews (41), Dale Murphy (3), Phil Niekro (35), Warren Spahn (21) and Greg Maddux (31). The Braves also retired the number 42 along with all Major League Baseball teams to honor Jackie Robinson.
And the healing process between the Braves and Glavine should be complete after this. I'm guessing next year we'll get #6 and #29 added to that list of retired numbers... and at this pace we might get #10 too.

Oh...
I see what you did there, a gentle dig at Chipper. Agreed though.
Congrats to Glavine. He and the Triumvirate provided many great memories.

Game 6 is still my all-time favorite sports moment.
Still bitter over Tony Pena, though. Granted, Tom got a whole lot of defensive help from his fielders, but if Tony Pena doesn’t hit that bloop, we get the only World Series-winning no-hitter in the history of baseball. I say “only” because I doubt it will ever happen.

Sober up and post quicker or I may have to pull a bigjoe and go start my own blog. Nah, all I’d ever write about was how the Braves have been shite since they traded Klesko.
Shouldn't Wes Timmons get a shot at 3B over that Chipper guy everybody talks about?

I was stuck in an hour and half meeting this morning when this broke. Trust me, I got the press release and I would have had this info first if I had been around.
The only thing you were stuck in was a bottle of cheap gin

I was there for that one too....
Too bad this one can’t be against the Mets as well.

Congrats...
To Tom. I must say, it’s kinda weird to be getting to the point in my lifetime where I’m starting to see people’s rookie/early seasons and then also seeing them retire.
Welcome to

Holy shiiiite
The seated red head looks just like my everdrunk step grandmom. Two white poodles at her feet and a highball glass in (both) her hand(s) and damn it’s Martha!
Have you ever watched this show?
It’s hilarious and frightening.

Awesome
Always a big Tommy G fan.
Pretty soon guys are going to have to pick a jersey number over 50 to get on the club.
Or...
Get bigger backs and go with triple digit numbers. Or fractions. Or decimal points. Something of that sort.
Woooooooo!!!!!!
Go Tommy! We’ll never see a rotation like that again!

Congrats Tommy...
on a different note, 5 hours before game time and I’m already here. The first step is admitting you have a problem.
I only popped on after seeing the lineup from the Braves' Twitter and going "Whaaa?"
STILL stopping every few minutes to realize "Whoa. The Saints won the Super Bowl."

lol, i’m with ya on that one! I’m waiting for a game thread to come up! I almost NEVER get a chance to post during the game thread. I’m by myself with my 5 year old and 19 month old so I’m usually cooking or doing dishes or bath time or just too tired during game time! Wish they’d put it up now since I have a chance to play!hahaha
Tonight's lineup
1. Prado
2. Heyward
3. Chipper
4. McCann
5. Glaus
6. Hinske
7. Infante
8. McLouth
9. Hudson.

Congratulations to Tommy on a well-deserved honor. We’re now entering the “retired numbers” phase of the the Braves dynasty. Maddux last year, Tommy this year, I’m sure Bobby and Smoltzie soon after, Chipper whenever he retires… That’s probably it, right? Not sure if Javy Lopez or Andruw are quite deserving enough. Still, that’s a heckuva lot of retired #s for one era. It was a pretty special time.

The bastards can’t EVER take it away from us.
That rotation gave me so many great moments to treasure. Even as an obvious HOFer, Tommy is still underrated. This honor is well deserved and I look forward to the ceremony.
