Fun fact about Parra— he went to JC with perfect game pitcher Dallas Braden. Everyone was there to scout Parra and nobody cared about Braden. Funny.

No

Don’t put words in my mouth. I never even used the word suck in any form. I was just saying that noone would have claimed he was a perfect game pitcher before hand, and now they are all jumping in saying that they werent surprised it happened.

A perfect game isn’t skill in all reality, its luck. Same as a no-hitter. So I dont think this reflects on his skill at all. He only had 6 K’s

than balls hit sharply and fielded by infielders. Hanson has more K’s than Braden yesterday and he doesnt have a perfect game. It’s all about getting lucky.

How unlikely was this performance? Dallas Braden, over the course of his career, had allowed 6.9 hits per 27 batters, 2.0 walks per 27 batters, and 0.2 reached on errors per 27 batters. Overall, that’s 9.1 runners allowed per 27 batters – his numbers for this season alone are similar. According to a basic binomial distribution, the odds of Braden allowing no runners in 27 batters, as he did on Sunday, are .00001517, or 0.001517%. Braden’s perfect game wasn’t quite one-in-a-million. It was more like 15.2 in a million.

The offense was pretty good in teh first week or two, and then it started to suck – but that is called a slump, not a normal expected outcome. The normal expected outcome, based on their career averages, says that this team that we see tonight, is what we should expect to see on a day-in, day-out basis.

If you think our team’s expected production is to be no-hit, then I suggest you change your screename.

Losing 4/6 = tearing it up.

After we swept Houston, I pointed out that they suck and that it was premature to declare the that the ship was righted. I was shouted down by this same crown who are involved in this discussion.

Nobody said that we'd never lose another game,

or series. Don’t act like your pessimism is vindicated every time we go on a bad stretch. Did you expect us to win the Philly series, given the injuries and such?

"Yeah, and I have an enchanted jock strap." -- Karl Karlson

by Jacob Peterson on May 10, 2010 10:36 PM EDT up reply actions

Of course not...

I didn’t expect us to win because we have been playing poorly for a long time. When we swept the shitty astros, I said I was not ready to declare the team back on track and I got the same response that I am getting in this thread right now. When we are winning, any talk of this not being an incredible team is met with extreme hatred. Fun times.

by letsgobravos on May 10, 2010 10:52 PM EDT up reply actions

I am not prepared to declare it fixed based on 1 good inning like the rest of you guys are apparently.

Celebrating a good night on BOTH sides of the game is all we’re doing. No declarations or buying of World Series tickets being planned.

I’d think you’d relax a bit from busting the balls of all the sunshine pumpers around here to enjoy it a little bit too.

But that would mean stop being a dick for an hour or so. Is it possible?

by NCChopper on May 10, 2010 10:26 PM EDT up reply actions

Apparently you can't read...

Several people have said that this means the team has turned a corner on offense and that we can now expect to see this type of production every game. I am not making this crap up so I suggest you go re read all of the posts if you don’t believe me.

by letsgobravos on May 10, 2010 10:28 PM EDT up reply actions

Will they score 7 every game? No

But will they threaten to be no-hit every game for the rest of the year? Of course not.

"Yeah, and I have an enchanted jock strap." -- Karl Karlson

by Jacob Peterson on May 10, 2010 10:30 PM EDT up reply actions

When did I say we would threaten to be no hit every game?

My ONLY point was that it is premature to conclude the offense is now good based on this game. You guys are unbelievable.

by letsgobravos on May 10, 2010 10:34 PM EDT up reply actions

I didn't put words in your mouth,

you put them in ours.

I’m not concluding that the offense is good based on this game. I’m concluding that it’s good based on many player-seasons worth of evidence. This game is just an example of the type of game we are capable of putting up fairly regularly.

What’s so offensive about that concept?

"Yeah, and I have an enchanted jock strap." -- Karl Karlson

by Jacob Peterson on May 10, 2010 10:38 PM EDT up reply actions

Go back and read ppl's posts...

I replied to guy(s) who said the team “turned a corner” tonight. I don’t think you can determine that on one good inning. If you disagree with me, great, you are entitled to your opinion.

If we keep hitting like this for a few games then I will be ready to jump on the bandwaggon. Will you guys save me a seat or kick me in the face when I try to get on because I don’t declare the team ready to win the world series every time we win a game?

by letsgobravos on May 10, 2010 10:47 PM EDT up reply actions

At the rate you’re going, you’re likely to be kicked in the face. Seats on the Winner’s Bandwagon are reserved for the sunshine pumpers.

by EricGreggWasPaidOff on May 10, 2010 10:48 PM EDT up reply actions

Haha right

I forgot, you aren’t allowed to be a braves fan unless you think we are going to win every game forever. Gondee needs to be kicked in the face also because he agrees with me that this team has serious problems and is in need of a shake up.

by letsgobravos on May 10, 2010 10:50 PM EDT up reply actions

I think this conversation is more for a recap of the game. IF people in the recap say we’re suddenly now a contender for the WSeries and all things are well again in Braves Country – then state your case and converse.

But this is simply folks enjoying the night – the game – the win – the amazing performance by Tommy.

No matter how BFF you and gondeee may be – at this point, me thinks you’re just trying to push buttons and state declarations were made whether they were or not – just to get an argument.

"Curve: The loveliest distance between two points." ~ Mae West

by NCChopper on May 10, 2010 10:57 PM EDT up reply actions

Again...

I didn’t start this argument. Someone else asked who was hesitant to think this win meant we stopped the bleeding. Several people responded and said yes, this meant we “turned the corner etc.” I disagreed. Chaos ensued.

I would be fine discussing it in the game recap, but if people don’t want to discuss big picture stuff, then they shouldn’t bring it up during the game thread.
