Atlanta Braves Minor League Recap: 4/09
Charlotte 3, Gwinnett 1
- F. Freeman 1-4 2K
- B. Hicks 1-2 BB, K
- J. Lyman 2.1IP 3H 2R 1BB 1K
- S. Proctor 1IP 0H 0R 0BB 2K
- M. Dunn 2IP 1H 0R 0BB 2K
Gwinnett couldn't muster much offense against Charlotte in game 2 of the series. Chris Resop wasn't terrible as a starter though he only made it through 3.1 innings. Scott Proctor and Mike Dunn did well in 3 innings of relief giving us a reminder of the wealth we have in AAA in case things go poorly in Atlanta.
Tennessee 5, MIssissippi 4
- D. Linares 2-5
- M. Gomez 2-4 HR, K
- K. Cofield 4IP 4H 4R 2BB 4K
Not a whole lot special going on in this game. Cody Johnson went 0-2 with another 2K. Maybe he can crack 300 this year. Kyle Cofield's first start was inauspicious after a positive spring training. I said a couple of days ago that I didn't know if Mauro Gomez would hit well for Mississippi, maybe I was wrong?
Wilmington 9, Myrtle Beach 10
- Y. Campusano 3-5 HR(1), 2 RBI
- A. Milligan 2-4 HR(1), BB, K, SB
- S. Moody 3-4 HR(1), 2 RBI
- J. Sucre 2-4 2 2B, RBI, K
- C. Rohrbough 3IP 6H 4R 0BB 3K
Snap Judgement: Myrtle Beach could have a really good offense this year though don't expect anymore homers from Shayne Moody, his walkoff tonight matched his career total. Cole Rogrbough pitched better than the outcome suggests so I wouldn't panic with him yet. Also learn the name Yeliar Castro, he could be in the Braves bullpen next year.
Rome 4, Kannapolis 0 - Game 1, 7 Innings
- K. Rose 2-4 SB(1), CS
- C. Harrilchak 2-2 SB(1), CS
- J. Kreke 2-3 2 2B, RBI
- C. Bethancourt 1-3 HR, 3 RBI
- J. Teheran 6IP 2H 0R 1BB 7K
Rome's teenagers were making some noise in both of their games today. Teheran had an spectacular season debut. Chris Masters chipped in with 3K in 1 inning to finish the game. The big blow offensively was Bethancourt's bomb. Remember this kid is just 18 years old. Harrilchak, Rose and Ware all got their speed on with a stolen base each.
Rome 1, Kannapolis 0 - Game 2, 7 Innings
- K. Rose 1-3 2K
- RSF 1-3 RBI
- R. Weber 4.1IP 1H 0R 0BB 3K
Ryan Weber is a guy everyone might want to keep an eye on. He was pretty dominant in a short stint in the GCL last year and the Braves thought enough of him to give him a $125,000 signing bonus in the 22nd Rd. He won't be 20 years old until August. I'm not sure what his role will be long term, but he has excellent control and generates a lot of groundballs (3.26 ratio last year and 10 GB to 0 FB tonight). I think he might be my first minor league man crush of the season.

Besides me? I’ll post pics tomorrow, was right behind homeplate heckling the hell out of Charlotte haha, everyone was lovin it. Tough loss, although the g-braves stadium, seats, and clubhouse were great

Great heckling moment at the game I was at tonight. A few drunks moved to right behind the Durham dugout just to heckle Dan Johnson. They weren’t very creative, just yelling out some variation of “You suck!”. After one of the “You suck!”s Johnson hit one of the longer homers I’ve ever seen at Harbor Park.
Heckling is dumb. Just root for your team.

They did shut up for a minute, but then they got on the next hitter, Joe Dillon. He takes a walk, and makes sure to look back at the guys. The hecklers are starting to get it, but they keep on and the next hitter, Ryan Shealy, laces a double that Dillon scores on. They shut up after that and left a few minutes later.
The funny thing is, players actually like hecklers if they’re clever. Unfortunately that only happens about twice a season.

There’s basically an indendent beer league team here in Tucson and you can get some drunk college guys to really get after the hitters. I always try to go on the $1 beer nights just to watch all the drunk dumbasses try to make fun of the hitters. One guy was all over Junior Spivey last summer and it was one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen.

Junior Spivey actually deserves it.

He did have the whole “I’m too cool for this independent league shit” going for him. Last on the field to warm up, first off the field after warning up, one of the only guys who didn’t sign autographs, etc. Kind of emberassing on his part for feeling that way.

Ummm I enjoy heckling.
In fact, so did everyone around me, they both cheered me on and laughed at my jeers. I root for my team harder than anyone. But when you are 25 ft away from the batter, of course I’m gonna heckle. Sorry you don’t approve bucko, I’ll continue heckling.

It’s cool, some of us like to act like adults, some of us don’t.

Go for it --you're the star of the game!
After all, we come to the games to hear the bon mots that booze and a sub-average IQ can combine to create; the on-field action, the strategy and drama of the game itself —those are just distractions to the purist.

Mississippi Braves
This teams hitting looks to be painly weak! Other than C. Johnson lots of retreads from other teams and for a AA looks old! Not really sure what is going on here? The pitching staff is young and solid, but the lack of drafting and developing postion players is showing up big time.
Really because the mlb team is almost all of our homegrown guys

Teheran
The Kannapolis announcer stated that he was hitting 96/97.
Weber is a good man crush candidate, although Teheran and Bethancourt are just too “baseball” sexy for me to be checking out the other guys right now (no homo). I wanna be conservative, but there might be too many good looking prospects this season..I must except the fact that I am becoming, or might already be, a minor league slut.

what ya got for us on Weber?...
4 teenage starters in Rome? Plus the rest of the starting pitching depth above and below them, lovely.
Wow, check out Rome
with the 14-inning double shutout. Fancy. I have a feeling we’ll be seeing a lot of shutouts from the Rome hurlers this year. Great start for Teheran. I wonder how high he’s going to climb up the prospect lists this year, especially if he makes it to high-A and pitches well there?

Rome +++++
I think maybe THIS is gonna be the best place to be BRAVES COUNTRY this season…..it’s all the buzz here and we can’t wait for them to get back home. No team this good should have to start on the road for 8 days…it’s torture!!!
Masters
My all-time crush. His palmball is unhitable.
My favorite thread...
Keep up the great work. Love to see how our terrific farm system players are progressing!
Rose
I know he is the fastest guy in our system but does he have any power because he is quickly becoming one of my favorite players
Very little pop
If he EVER hit 10 HR i’d be surprised but that’s not his game nor would I want it to.
