Braves Quote For The Day II
The intrepid Kevin Goldstein on our newest young pitching prospect, Arodys Vizcaino, whom we acquired in the Javier Vazquez trade:
He exceeded expectations in Braves' camp with overall stuff and poise; he could become household name by the end of the year.
With so many Latin American pitchers in the lower part of the Braves system, he should be right at home and comfortable in a Braves uniform. It's always good when one gets an "exceed expectations."

Haha, awesome. I always get the “You’re with her???” comment when people see me with my wife but thats ok with me that she is better looking than I am.
With so much hope for the big league squad and minor league specs I’m more excited about the Braves than I have been in previous years.
They say in every relationship one person settles while the other exceeds expectations… It’s usually easy to tell which is which

How many heroes are we allowed?
I’m due to have another one.

Well Heyward isn’t a hero… he’s a god, so technically he doesn’t count

Ahh
So if he has a child with a mere mortal, that child will become a hero.

OK
I’ve decided. Sorry Arodys, but Jason Heyward’s unborn child is my new hero. I want to be ahead of the curve.

Did you pick up on the big, Yankees-induced ego from Viz, or do you think that stuff was exaggerated?

No, I kind of did. And from what I’d heard from folks who saw him last year with Staten Island, it was worse before. Fortunately, we have July Teheran working on him, quite effectively, and showing him the no-ego Braves way to do things. I think Arodys has already changed a great deal and I’d expect by now that ego is all but gone.

Allow me to piss all over this particular snowbank.
I highly suspect Vizcaino will attain MLB status in another jersey. If the Braves are in contention either this year or next, he makes very tasty trade bait. Which is one reason I think the Braves wanted him.

You think? I just don’t see Wren selling one of his top prospects for a three-month player rental… I see him trying to dump more mid-level prospects at the trade deadline… But what do I know… Teixeira deja vu

If a 3 month rental puts this club over the top, sayonara Arodys.
That being said, I can’t think of anyone who would be available worth trading for this year. People keep talking Carl Crawford, but that isn’t happening, and frankly, one of our current outfielders would have to go in the deal for it to make sense. We’re not carrying 5 OF.
tUMD Hockey: In search of a title! But probably not this year.
So you’re saying we trade away Vasquez (essentially a one-year rental in his own right) for Melky Cabrera and a three-month rental??
I just don’t see that happening. That significantly devalues our end of the last trade. Viz isn’t the future bait in that trade, Melky is. I look for him to stick around for the year and get shipped elsewhere as Jordan Schafer gets another shot.

Is this saying Vizcaino could make the major leagues by the end of this year? There’s not too many minor leaguers who are household names, my parents are huge fans, read Chop Talk, watch every game, and only knew of Heyward from me. Vizcaino has 1 season of short season, this quote makes him sound almost ready.
I don't think Goldstein intends that suggestion
Differing notions of the “household name,” methink — a “household name” to prospect-enthusiasts or your average quasi-literate, internet-savvy baseball fan is not a “household name” to a large volume of the average baseball fan, much less the average ESPN consumer.
