Chipper "Standup" Jones
Maybe this shouldnt be a whole fanpost either but it was very special to me, and plenty of people around the stadium were talking about it quite a bit, so, here goes.
Chip obviously was out of the lineup yesterday, but today, when he found out he wasnt playing, he immediately came out of the dugout and warmed up. Maybe like 4 throws with Chino, and then he came right over and started signing everything.
At first people were timid, b/c, well, hey, its Larry freakin Wayne and he doesnt sign for free all the time, etc., but after a few minutes, it was clear he was taking his time. He went the entire length of the left field fence signing jerseys, taking pictures, signing anything, really, and he was actually pretty approachable. At first I missed him but went back around, and got to chat for a few seconds while he signed my hat. People afterwards were talking pretty heavily about how cool it was, that when he realized he wasnt playing, he came out for everyone to sign. I was touched, and was shaking like a freaking Brittany Spears fan, but hey, if we're not bashful in front of our lifelong heroes, when will we be?
I thought it was awesome.

Good stuff man. I’ve always had good luck getting Chipper. He signs pretty regularly and is always very nice about it. Glad he chatted a little because most times he’s just kind of there.
I wrote a novel, it's about baseball, you should buy it: https://www.createspace.com/3407939

I tried to get a signature on my hat from J-Hey
In SF, but the Park Nazi’s wouldn’t let me into that area, 1 seat over from my front row aisle seat… Now thats some BS

Chipper is my all-time favorite baseball player.
Great ballplayer and seems to be an even greater person – Hooters mistake aside.

Don’t know if that is a tradition for him to come out and sign on an off-day, but if not it was a great move to build up some good fanwill considering the team’s play recently. Atta baby, Chip.
you know, if Chip really does retire because he doesn’t want to embarrass himself or the organization (and in the process save the Braves about $25MM), it would only add to his incredible legacy. If he just can’t do it anymore and makes the sacrifice to retire early, I’d probably arrange my travel plans to see him inducted into Cooperstown the very next day.
Of course I write this hoping Chipper plays good baseball for 5 more years…

Agreed entirely.
Hope he plays till he’s 45. But regardless, driving to Cooperstown for him whenever it occurs.

And that’s why he should never be traded and/or benched as some people call for. My favorite player of all time.

In Toronto
Chipper did the same thing a couple years ago. He was hurt but he still warmed up a little bit and then came over to the 1st base side and signed for a long time. I was in the front row, right in front of him. A huge crowd started and I was getting crushed. I couldn’t move, not like I wanted to anyway because Chipper was right in front of me. People kept passing me stuff to have him sign, and he laughed when I said this is starting to get ridiculous. He was nice enough to sign my jersey twice for me too. The first time I used a some-what dried up silver sharpie that I could barely see after he signed it on the 1. He asked if I had something better and I gave him a black sharpie and he signed again but this time on the 0. Chipper, although he sometimes comes off like he doesn’t care about the fans, he really does.

Totally jealous! Chipper is still my favorite, right above Klesko. Great story.

I don’t know you anymore
Shouldn't Wes Timmons get a shot at 3B over that Chipper guy everybody talks about?
I had a dream Ryan Klesko came back to the Braves the other night...
It was very strange… but it won ballgames.

Thanks for sharing that! Despite Chipper’s offensive woes, this goes to show why the Braves have kept Chipper so long. Chipper is real, and acts human—-unlike a lot of high-dollar players nowadays who are full of themselves. The Braves don’t have to win, to have winners.
Jason Heyward is the reason that Chuck Norris parks his car in a garage.
Chipper has been my favorite player ever since I was a little kid. His card was the first baseball card I ever got. I remember seeing his 400th homer, last year I think. It was great.
Great post, and rec’d! I wish I could get Chipper’s autograph. Maybe I will one day.
A lotta room in right-center, if he hits one there we can dance in the streets. The 2-1. Swung, line drive left field! One run is in! Here comes Bream! Here's the throw to the plate! He is...safe! Braves win! Braves win! Braves win! Braves win!...Braves win! They may have to hospitalize Sid Bream; he's down at the bottom of a huge pile at the plate. They help him to his feet. Frank Cabrera got the game winner! The Atlanta Braves are National League champions again! This crowd is going berserk, listen!
