Braves lose their 6th straight, fall to the Birds 4-3
What a crappy game. It looked like the Braves' offense was coming around after scoring 2 runs in the 3rd inning and then another in the 4th inning. Troy Glaus was showing his singles POWAH. Melky Cabrera was swinging the bat well. Nate McLouth ripped a double down the RF line. And Yunel Escobar had some great ABs in the leadoff spot.
But that certainly didn't last long.
After leading 3-0, the Braves fell asleep at the plate. The Braves went 1-2-3 in the 5th, 6th, 7th inning and left 2 runners on base in the 8th. The Cardinals chipped away at the lead until Yadier Molina delivered the big blow in the 8th inning, hitting a GW RBI double into left-center field. The Braves battled back and had a leadoff infield single in the 9th inning via Matt Diaz, but Eric Hinske promptly hit into a 6-4-3 double play. Yunel Escobar walked to keep hope alive, but Martin Prado grounded out to 2nd to end the game.
And just like that the Braves lose (again) 4 to 3.
I'm not sure about the TC faithful, but this loss hurts a lot more than any of the Mets or Phillies losses.
Timmy Hudson pitched a good game and even contributed at the plate going 1-for-3 with a run. Huddy was cruising in the first few innings but the Cardinals chipped away until they got within striking distance. Once again though, the offense had a bunch of chances to get our starter more runs to work with, but failed to do so leaving 8 runners on base. Eight. Ocho. Jeff Francoeur's old number +1. Ugh.
Takashi Saito struggled tonight, giving up the GW run along with 2 hits and a walk. Peter Moylan failed to strand his inherited runner, Yadier Molina, after he gave up a stolen base and then was victim to a bloop double from Bryan Anderson. All-in-all, not a strong night from the bullpen.
The Good:
Troy Glaus - 2-for-3 w/ a BB, 1RBI
Nate McLouth - 1-for-3 w/ a RBI 2B
Melky Cabrera - 2-for-4, 1R
Tim Hudson - 6+IP 3ER 4K/3BB
The Bad:
Peter Moylan - BS, allowed the tying run to score in the 7th after Yadier Molina stole 2nd off him.
Chipper Jones - 0-for-3 w/ a BB
Jason Heyward - 0-for-3 w/ a BB, 3 runners LOB
The Ugly:
Innings 5, 6 and 7 - 9 consecutive outs, 27 pitches seen. Good lord.
Takashi Saito - L, 1IP 1ER 2H 1K/1BB
Upcoming Games:
The Braves send their $60MM ace #5 starter Derek Lowe to the mound to face Cardinals ace Chris Carpenter. First pitch is at 8:15EST.

I don't think you can
The amount of html you can actually utilize in the comments is pretty rudimentary, and I don’t think they recognize the table tags, but then again, i’ve never really tried.
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.

Do it in Word
And then see if importing a word doc is still an available option. It should parse the table out for you then.

go to the website

and use that as an example. You can copy / paste the table examples into a fanpost and edit it to include what you want (more rows / columns / etc)

This is certainly depressing. That’s all I can say.
Looking forward to tomorrow. Chris Carpenter hasn’t exactly been stellar against the Braves, so hopefully we can get a DLW.
The birth of Jason Heyward was God’s punishment for the sins of the people in New York and Philly.
i'm kinda looking forward to the GT tomorrow night
Derek Lowe starts always bring some ripe comic activity into the thread.

He brings out the Hulk in us all. I wish one day he would prove me wrong and keep the opposing team under 4 hits with 1 run or less. He hasn’t done that (just making this up off the top of my head) since opening day last year.

You were actually pretty close…there was only one other outing besides opening day that he gave up less than 4 hits. The funny thing is that he pitched a gem and still got the loss, ha. Sound familiar?

Man, this game really got to me.
This is the first time I’ve really been pissed after a game. I usually get a little ticked off, but I always think “Ah, there’s always tomorrow and it’s still early.”
Tonight I’m not feeling so great. It’s still early, but if we only score 3 runs off Kyle Lohse, I worry about facing Carpenter and Wainwright the next couple days.
I’m gonna get off now before I start to piss people off with my negativity. Night everybody.

Losing to the Muts is worse IMO
I respect the Cardinals way more. Hey on the positive side the G Braves are doing better and better!

I have to disagree with you. Even though we lost, this team looked much better than the team that was on the field against the Mets. The defense was much improved, baserunning was much improved. And we got 3 runs. That’s a great improvement. Our three “weakest” players came through offensively (Glaus, Melky, McLouth). With all those things combined, I was pretty relieved after yesterday’s game even though it was a loss.
...
how can bobby’s indefensibe non-substitution of peter moylan with 2 out and a runner on 2nd and a lh hitter (lh hit peter at a ridiculous clip) not make that recap? hell, its not even being discussed. is my bitterness toward bobby cox tonight unfounded?
My opinion cant be wrong. It's my opinion. Those who don't like it can piss up a rope.
I don't blame Bobby for this one...
Was there ever any doubt we were going to blow that? and the thing is…i have a strange feeling there are people out there pleased we scored 3 runs.
by Nova Scotia Steve on Apr 27, 2010 12:22 AM EDT via mobile up reply actions
That comment makes no sense what-so-ever
Kyle Lohse is considered a good pitcher??? – Maybe when he faces the Braves.
by Nova Scotia Steve on Apr 27, 2010 12:28 AM EDT via mobile up reply actions
You see, it's like this, we scored 3 runs against a good team tonight,
and we haven’t been scoring Even 3 runs against much worse teams of late.
I see this as an improvement.
Good for you
But it still doesn’t make sense – i see your point. But it doesn’t make sense. I find it extremely diffiuclt to defend an anemic offense that has for the past 14 games looked probably worst i’ve ever seen it over a span of that many games….

A. Bartlett Giamatti
...And the beat goes on
We’ve lost to Moyer, Maine, Kendrick, Loshe etc etc Pretty tough to look forward to facing Carpenter & Wainwright – Hope they win but i’m not spending all my nights/evenings watching this lifeless team that seems they could care less (beside bullpen & starting pitching) whether they win or lose….It’s a fucking disgrace

Maybe you should find a winning team to watch for now,
and then when we start winning, which we will, you can jump back on the bandwagon, just sayin’.
I've been a Braves fan for 16 years
So give me a break – with your snarky comments – and watch almost EVERY game in its entirety. If not the whole game I ALWAYS catch a couple innings. So don’t give me the wagon talk. I’ve had a seat on there since the early 90’s and the staff there no me by name and are confortable with me running openin tabs.

Maybe you aren’t a bandwagon fan, but you’re sure talking like one. I’m not trying to take personal shots or start an argument but when you say things about our team like “fucking disgrace” when we’re 3 games under .500 3 weeks into the season it makes me (and probably the other readers readers) question your rationality as a baseball fan.

When I see the expressions that i saw in the dugout Sunday Night
It was a disgrace – It looked like they could care less if they won…lost…tied…got rained out….etc. In a 1-0 ballgame no less. How about that look from Yunel Escobar??? It felt like he was glaring into every home in Amercia/Canada and beyond saying “Are you kidding me?” (It was after Chipper’s poor AB – and I know Chip’s not 100% – but the look was deadly)

Nova, fan since the early 90s is the definition
of a bandwagon Braves fan, jumped on when we started winning and rode the wave. I truly became a Braves fan when I was 7 and me and my parents were at the July 4-5, 1985 game. The longest in Braves history, we stuck around suffered through the rain delays and the loss (to the Mets) and enjoyed the fireworks at 5 am.
I was 10 and my father got me watching them - ZHe was a fan when they were in Milwaukee
Like really…I’m from Canada…seen 13 Braves games…4 in Atlanta….Have the “A” emblem tatoo’d over my heart after my father passed away from cancer because we were both such big fans…have an authentic David Justice Jersey that was bought in 1996 – the year he was traded (fail) and my family dog who’s died a few year’s back was named Justice – Like is that enough????
But yeah I’m a bandwagon jumper…Suppose you’re going to say my father jumped on the bandwagon as well…
by Nova Scotia Steve on Apr 27, 2010 10:23 AM EDT up reply actions
Sorry but you should have been more specific
The early ninties is when no one cared about the Braves until they actually started winning and all the sudden everyone was a Braves fan. And it got to the point were no one cared about us maikng the playoffs. Has there ever been any other team that couldn’t sell out playoff games? I truly dislike those people who praise the Braves when we’re good and forget they exist when we lose.
So people have to give a discourse on their life story
Or be bashed and dissed by those who believe they are “in charge” and have the only acceptable points of views or opinions here…
This place is a fucking joke…

As I said, the guys that think they are in charge… It’s sad when a die hard Braves fan since the 80’s (pre winning days — I know I need to qualify my statement) can’t feel like he’s welcome here because I don’t spout insane and eternal optimism.
I want the Braves to win every game. I realize that is never going to happen, but that’s what I want. I hurt when the Braves lose. I also think people shouldn’t be ostracized for not being frustrated, suggesting changes, etc when things aren’t going well.
Unfortunately, those most vocal (i.e. the ones listed above + more) love to attack anyone who isn’t in line with their opinion, even when that opinion is supported with evidence, statistics, examples. Then, of course, the sample size is questioned, etc.
But as the sample size grows along with the losing streak, they still argue everything is rosy.
And they are the first to bitch and moan at the end of a loss, all the rosyness gone until the next day… At least some of us aren’t on the rollercoaster of “we’re great” before each game and “we suck” after each loss…

To be honest
It wouldn’t matter if this were a blog about baking cookies and we were all die-hard enthusiasts of baking cookies, TC has become somewhat of a community that’s a little skeptical towards newcomers.
Not to say that every word that’s been exchanged (the mods can’t read every word posted) has been cordial, but for better or worse, TC’s kind of developed a bit of a weary audience of fly-by-night member “fans” who leave a steamer of hate and disgust for the team we’re all rooting for when we’re already down from a slump, and then are never heard from again when things inevitably do get better. Some inevitably take it upon themselves to do the weeding themselves, which I can’t really say is the most appropriate manner of handling things, but in the end, if you stick to your guns and celebrate the good, as well as steam with the bad, and simply just hang around, it’s about all you would have to have legitimately prove. (IMO, one’s “duration” or “story” of Braves fandom being indicative to a tangible level of love for the Braves is a little silly)
It’s a myriad of thoughts, opinions, and mindsets here. And as long as you’re here to root for/discuss (logically, hopefully) the Braves, then all are welcome.

We all have things that impact us each day, and come out in what we say and how we act…
I know that I let my pain (non-Braves related) impact how I dealt with people both here and in my life… My wife is hurting as I am, but she is mad as hell at me because apparently I have been a royal ass the last few days… Losing your best friend can do that to a man.
I hope as hell we start winning soon… I think we all need it… I know I do

Although, my fondness for Nate may be slightly irrational, as he hasn’t produced consistently since we acquired him…

I think it's normal for people to feel pissed after your team loses 6 in a row. I'm tired of people getting pissed on here
over people being negative. I don’t think I ever lost a game before and said " Ah, that’s okay guys." No, that never happened. It’s normal to get pissed, so let people get pissed. Some people like to use this blog to VENT their frustration… it goes away and it allows our wives or girlfriends feel better than we don’t sit around being pissed all night.
by BravesFanScout on Apr 27, 2010 12:34 AM EDT up reply actions
It's also normal to feel better when our offense begins to wake up and score some runs,
I’m just saying, try to find something good to say, if you can. Some of our players read this blog regularly. I know of two myself. Why kick them when they are down? Try to encourage them if possible.
Players actually read this blog? Really? That is like a celebrity reading the National Enquire
and believing everything it said about them. I think it is normal for someone to show frustration when their team loses and they LOVE the braves and have followed them since they were birthed. I think people on here should try not to take the comments so serious. People just want to vent the frustrations, so if the Braves do read this they should take it with a grain of salt.

I think i've plenty of the normal bloggers on here vent their frustrations...
it is normal to be pissed about losing 6 in a row. It’s okay to be pissed. I believe i have seen some of the “authors” say some negative things before. So lets not get all high and mighty and act like we’ve never been pissed over losing before. If you are a competitive person then you get pissed about losing. It goes away and we all know that the good thing about baseball is we get to play tomorrow, and if they don’t play then they’ll play two games in one day just make it up to us. Temporary frustration is normal, i promise.
by BravesFanScout on Apr 27, 2010 1:34 AM EDT up reply actions
This.
It’s all about perspective. I’d agree the mods haven’t set this place up exclusively for venting. Nor do I believe they’ve set it up to exclude anyone from ever doing so. It would be one thing if everyone around here were acting like spoiled Yankee fans and moaning about bitching about a loss after a 5 game winning streak. But after a 6-game losing streak die hard fans are well within their rights to be pissed about the circumstances. It’s not a reflection on them as fairweather/bandwagon fans, it’s not a reflection that they hate the team/players/a particular player, it is an understandable fury over bleak circumstances that they themselves cannot change because such is the nature of the beast. Die hard fans will live and die with their team, and when their team is momentarily flopping about in its grave as ours has this week, it shouldn’t shock or offend anyone to see perfectly reasonable, intelligent, passionate fans of both genders reduced for a moment to 5 year old status. It happens, and that frustration is going to come to the surface eventually, and the longer the losing streak the shorter that fuse is going to get.
I am among those that are being called out for being “negative.” I am PISSED about tonight’s loss, and I won’t sugarcoat that. But- being the reasonable man that I am, I will get over this temporary frustration. I still love my team, I still want them to do well, and I would never fathom jumping ship to the flavor of the week team that might be on a hot streak right now. Are there flaws with this team? Absolutely. Am I in my rights to be upset about that? Sure. However, I’m one of the guys that keeps repeating things like “bad luck” and “small sample size”- for example, has anyone else noticed that Esco’s BABIP is 109 (!!!) points below his career mark? Things like that will correct themselves, but it doesn’t make me feel any better about the fact that we handed away a win against a back-end pitcher like Lohse and now face the monumental task of trying to overcome one or both of Carpenter or Wainwright if we don’t want this skid to hit 7 or 8. That’s a daunting task for a lineup even in the bountiful times, but in the lean ones it’s like asking a man to slay a god. So, while I want my team to turn around tomorrow, and believe that the potential is there, hiding under the surface somewhere, there’s the realist in me that knows they’ve got their work cut out for them and then some. And that in no way makes me a negative nellie or a bandwagon/fairweather fan. If anything it makes me a smarter fan for recognizing not only my team’s weak points but my opponents’ strong points, increasing my knowledge of the game as a whole. Were I a lesser fan it would be easier to assert that we’ll just come back tomorrow, steamroll over some schmuck pitcher and be done with it. Instead I find myself tempering my expectations and hoping that my struggling team finds a way to pleasantly surprise me.
So can we please quit trying to force everyone to post about fields of daisies and rainbow-farting unicorns and acknowledge that there is an appropriate time to be frustrated/upset/mad as hell/insert emotion here and that this is one of those times?

People get pissed about a baseball game the same way people get pissed about anything. They care about the team and want the team to do well. The Braves are more than just an arbitrary team to many people. There are many people (like myself) who grew up watching the Braves and have been lifelong fans. There are people who enjoy regional pride about a team from Georgia playing major league baseball. There are people who live in St. Louis who are from Georgia and want to see the Braves beat the Cardinals.
The Braves are truly the team of the south (no, Florida doesn’t count), and the fact that people take immense pride in what the Braves do and live and die with their team shouldn’t be something of puzzlement to you. I mean no ill-will to you, but if you don’t atleast understand the reasoning of how someone may be upset after their team loses a game, then I’m beginning to wonder how much time you’ve spent around sports fans. Few and far between are the sports fans who enjoy every game objectively without any connection to a team, simply for the love of the game itself.

My apologies...
I meant that as the teams in Florida don’t count as southern teams…not that the people in Florida who may be Braves fans don’t count. I just honestly didn’t think there were that many people residing in Florida now who were even there before 1994 (and yes, that’s a joke…kind of).

It's still just a game
I go to the games as often as I can, but I also go and visit patients in the VA hospital who don’t ever get visitors,. Just a little different perspective I guess.
Senator, we have another old saying,"Don't piss down my back and tell me it's raining." Fletcher
Certainly, there are varying degrees to it,
and I admire your kindness regarding patients at the hospital. However, as someone whose grandfather died of cancer in one of those hospitals, and all he cared about was that the braves were on tv in his hospital room, it’s more than just a game to many people.

I agree it is more than a game to some but I just think some perspective helps over these hard times is all.
Senator, we have another old saying,"Don't piss down my back and tell me it's raining." Fletcher
In the same way (and a little more light-hearted),
my family still makes the joke that Sid Bream killed our grandmother. She watched the Braves on TBS every night, and she suffered a heart-attack sometime during the night after the epic Sid Bream slide into home against the Pirates. We can all only imagine that she was so excited about that play, that the shock literally caused her to have a heart attack.

Pretty much this.
There isn’t much in baseball to boil the blood you know. There are few true shows of pure athleticism, the season and games are way too long, etc. Does it suck that the Braves lost? Sure. Am I actually going to get pissed off about it? Hell no. Especially since baseball is a 162 game schedule. In pretty much every other sport, a 6 (or hell even 4) game losing streak is killer. In baseball, because the season is so long, every single team goes through a losing streak at some point. It’s too early (and the losing streak isn’t long enough in my opinion) to get pissed off just yet.
Then again, I know the internet is Hyperbole Central so most of you who are “SEETHING RAGE” are probably like me (and most people) and whilst it sucks it doesn’t change any part of your demeanor and emotions.
By the way, I’m calling a Braves win tonight. I thought about posting last night before the game thread about the Braves were going to lose that game [because of the general way these losing streaks work. You have to have a decent game (which you lose) before you can win.] but I didn’t post it because no one really needs or cares about such negative bullshit. I fully expect the Braves to win 2 out of the next 3 and would not be overly surprised if they take all 3. Let’s see how much (more) of an asshole the Braves make me look like.
by DogDaysofSummer on Apr 27, 2010 11:42 AM EDT up reply actions
your right, if you want to see pure athleticism, go watch the NBA. But, every play is important, every out, every pitch… you are overlooking the mental aspect of game. sacrifice, bunts, working around hitters, utilizing the shift, working counts, the art of stealing bases, stealing signs…these are the unique to baseball and make the game great. If the braves loose a tough one, i just dont decide to be frustrated, it just happens. I live and die by this team, when they lose it hurts, when they win im walking on air….i applaud your aloft sentiments for the braves, i guess
hopefully your prediction will start tonight

Yeah, sorry about the length. When I was writing it felt like there was a lot of clarification needed in order to refute the kind of one-liners that were being thrown around. Just trying to get a complete thought out there in a manner where it isn’t shredded to pieces by people missing what should be givens.
Pretty much sums up my thoughts on the matter
We’re Braves fans, of the rabid variety. Watching the Braves drop 6 straight, including games pitched by Lohse, Moyer, Maine, etc. should frustrate us.
Lets hope the Braves can snap out of this funk and start playing some good baseball.

I'm tired of writing it after every loss
Vent all you want. Vent until your fingers fall off. But remember you’re doing on a public forum in writing, and realize the repercussions you face from those who don’t agree with your opinions and decide to voice them. Remember that you may not like the things being said to you and you may decide to say things that they don’t like in return. Remember that myself or other mods may delete comment/content that cross the line without any explanation needed.
I understand the people wanting to vent. My only objection with venting is that it is not the only thing TC exists for, and those who use it as such, will eventually be singled out, called out, and possibly reprimanded. The double standard. We like to think that a rich, stimulating community is the goal, and we don’t need fifty new Buzz Buzzkillingtons throwing a wet blanket on the community whenever they’re pissed about a loss.

Just for the record, you’re not one of the folks that got under my skin about this. And I think my track record will show I’ve done far more than just piss and moan, but it did put me on the defensive when I dared lament our recent struggles in a gamethread last night and got called out for it like I was committing a mortal sin. I’m not a fan of the all-vent type either, but as I said so long-windedly, every once in a while a little venting is warranted during the worst of times. I do appreciate guys like you having a cool head about all this nonsense though. I was definitely not addressing you above.

This might be a good idea. After each loss, someone put up a “Vent” Thread.
We could even have a monthly best quotables from the threads as well.
We could even have a thread after each win and copy and paste unicorns and other nice stuff.
Ok, I might be joking about the win thread, but a venting thread after each loss sounds like a good idea.

And the winner is:
I planned on looking for these at the beginning of the OT for the game, as the rules clearly stated:

a) finds or creates that image
b) posts it immediately at the creation of the OT for tonight’s game10 WHOLE points…
However, I feel I owe a judgment in the here and now… Therefore, without any further ado, I do declare the winner to be (so far):
schlagdawg
who had an actual real unicorn fart out rainbows and managed to take a picture at the exact moment of said rainbowic flatulence.
A close 2nd to HereComestheBream’s 1st entry, who clearly enjoys farting out the largest rainbow ever farted, and a distant 3rd to HereComestheBream’s 2nd entry (and a phone call to PETA), as that unicorn clearly was coerced into farting out a painful rainbow…
I will still accept entrants at the beginning of the OT, as the rules stated

It’s not temporary. There are strings of negative comments in the OT before the game has even started. And most of them consist of irrational anger towards specific coaches or players about a ridiculously small sample size of some statistic that is no where near being consistant for the entire season.

As in Thorman?
I figure my best friend has done a lot more damage out here in real life than anyone ever did on this blog. We saw him playing for Kansas City’s AAA team last year against our hometown Memphis AAA team, and sat right behind the visiting dugout. My friend, who is both bolder and more rash than I, proceeded to yell things like “I bet you miss those days in Atlanta right about now, eh Failman?” and “It must suck to know Mike Jacobs is batting .200 for the worst team in the Majors and you STILL can’t get called up.”
On a bright note
At least we scored three runs. Couple hard hit balls by Yunel. Glaus and Melky got a couple hits.
The world is ending right now, but this is baseball. Things balance out. We’ve hit a tough stretch playing the best team in the league at home and then hitting the road mired in a slump. We’ll break out.
Silver Lining......
The Phils are losing to the Giants.

Hey, Chipper is playing with that hurt hip when he shouldn’t. Why does Bobby keep letting him go on for? Glaus is possibly waking up and who knows? We might get it together soon. I’m not going to despair til the end of May, I remember last year and this team went on a tear after the ASB. There is a mental problem with this team’s offense and I can’t put a finger on it. They just allow their discouragement to rollover and grow. It seems that way to me, any thoughts?

Funny how most on this site forget about that game. That’s good cause it only brings back pain. Hudson was dealing. (Why in the hell did we pitch to a really Hot Renty?) It’s still a really early season. Better luck next time and hey the month will end this week. Maybe May will be better for us. I’m glad Hudson still have Ace stuff.

Oddly enough, I feel… ok about this loss. Mostly because we actually scored runs off of the starting pitcher (no matter how good he… isn’t, we haven’t scored runs off of the starter in at least two series), and we didn’t have any errors charged against us. The loss still hurts, but I see progress, and that progress is allowing me to be more optimistic than I’ve been in a week

Its early to talk about trades but my goodness we could use a good lead off hitter and that person would probably be in LF. Although I do wonder how Matt Young would do with a promotion.
On the bright side Schafer is recovering well
The one thing I am most sick of seeing is so many double plays.
I know its major league pitching they are facing. But aren’t they supposed to be major league hitters? I’ve seen too many guys hit weak ground balls with runners on.

Well, I am still worrying and I’m getting more negative. AND not just for the recent six games.
Politicians are like diapers. They both need changing regularly and for the same reason.
The Braves seem to fall deeeep into slumps.
And I don’t just mean in 2010. Its pretty much been a characterisitic of the team since I have watched them. When its bad, its downright awful.
Where I grew up, there was a saying about our high school baseball team. Sometimes we played like the Braves, but sometimes we played like…the Braves.
Just lack of consistency.
War Eagle
They do
Over the last few years I’ve tried to put my finger on it. We’ve had good players, well rounded teams, what’s the problem?? They even put up the stats, we can get anyone in here to talk about how Kelly Johnson was an above average second baseman for us, but there in lies the Braves problem.
The Braves are Kelly Johnson. The potential has always been there, and the statistics do eventually come along, but there is an inconsistency and a je ne sais quoi about teams of recent years that just can’t be great over a sustained period of time.
If it gets bad, and we are out of it by late July, what does this team do? I hope it never comes to that, but if it does, a drastic shake up must occur. The inconsistency has been going on for too long, and there are a lot of common denominators (good players even) in that dugout that we can point the finger at.
The Braves are Kelly Johnson.
Perfect.

And…. May WILL be Different! – I promise.
I’m ready for this crappy month of April to be put behind us and get on with our real season, and not with this aberration that’s pretending to be our team.
I was glad to see Melky, Troy and Nate hitting last night too.
I see our game thread got “proctored” by proxy. ;-)

We hit, no errors or mental mistakes (@ least not to many of my knowledge), those that were hitting under .200 hit, but we still LOST a SIXTH STRAIGHT GAME! I dont care if it was the St. Louis Cardinals, we are still talented enough to beat them. I really think Glaus is a band aid for 1st Base until we trade for Adrian Gonzalez (didnt we do that one before???)

Anything that might help stop the bleeding…

I’m weirdly not that broken up about the loss last night. It sucked, no doubt about it. But at least the offense looked capable for 4 innings, which is 4 more than they had been in most games lately. Glaus and Melky had good games. Now we just need Chipper and Heyward to start hitting again—and they will, provided Chipper is healthy and Heyward gets a day off at some point.
I’d rather have the bullpen be subpar than lose 1-0 or 3-1 again. That was getting old.

Agreed.
The thing that sucks was that after we scored 3 runs I thought the game was in the bag. Figures that our lights out bullpen would finally falter and lose the game for us.

Sad thing is
This isn’t the first time any of us have ever seen the Braves pull this trick before. Weather sucks, team’s slumping, and then the Braves get themselves an early lead. The bullpen isn’t what cost the Braves this game, it was laziness. Pure, unadulterated laziness.
Braves get lead. Then they supposedly decide to simply hold lead. I had a really bad feeling in my spine when I saw that nine straight batters were retired in what felt like nine pitches; it’s like the team was deliberately rushing the game to pawn it off onto the previously lock-down bullpen to finish it up, instead of using the patience, walks and patience that got them the runs in the first place. No killer instinct, no nails for the coffin.
I’m liking Billy Wagner, but I’d rather the Braves win games 5-1, 4-0, 11-2 in games that are 3:20 long all the time than see him earn 40 saves.
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.

Completely ridiculous, but when nothing is going right it almost feels like the baseball world is conspiring against you. haha
Glaus did have some nice swings tonight. Let’s hope that got him started.
Heyward needs a day or two off. He is still swinging over the top of a lot of breaking pitches.
Yeah, but did you see that catch? Dude caught it in the air and landed 4 feet off the base. Then, he just stands there with that guilty “I fucked up” look, only to find that he “made the play.”
Throw out a red flag on that one, Bob.

Thing is, you’re going to lose games like last night’s. If the Braves hadn’t lost the five previous games (and looked bad doing so), it would be easier to take a game like last night’s. They played more like a winning team than they have in a couple of weeks. Maybe they’ve turned a corner. Let’s hope so.
Yep. Wasn’t an ugly loss. Looks like we’re ready to play again. Maybe they all need to watch Major League and, if there’s time, Major League II.

"Looks like we’re ready to play again."?
Scoring 3 runs, then phoning in 3 innings on 27 pitches doesn’t look to me like being ready to play again. I read it as:
1. Uh oh, we’re stinking up the joint. Better put something together.
2. Three runs! Yeah.
3. Whew, glad that’s over with.
This team really acts like it’s got serious on-switch/off-switch problems. Quitting during the last 6 games last year, quitting during the last two exhibition games in ST this year because they’re “tired of spring training, ready for the real thing.” Playing to win all the time builds strength, physical and mental, builds discipline. We’re seeing the results of not taking that approach.
Baseball’s a funny game. Sometimes, nothing goes to plan. Sometimes, everything does. Most teams fall somewhere in the middle. The Braves always seem to be one extreme or the other.

Braves, Cards and Umps get together after game
Several Brave and Cardinal players were dining together at a downtown St. Louis resturaunt after last nights games. Lowe, Prado, Heyward, Pendleton, D. Reyes, B. Ryan, Dave Duncan, Mark Mcgwire and a couple of the Umps from the game were there.
