Braves Minor League Recap: 4/24

Gwinnett 8, Durham 7

Gregor Blanco stays hot; he's 6 for his last 12 with two 3 hit games surrounding an 0-fer. Freddie Freeman continues to prove the doubters wrong, collecting 2 hits to make him 9 for his last 16. Brandon Hicks continues to turn things around as well, collecting 3 hits, including a 2 run homer, his first of the year. He's 5 for his last 8, but, unfortunately, his average remains below the Mendoza line. Chris Resop puts up another solid performance as a starter; the Braves may just be on to something with this one. Jeff Lyman had a rough night, walking the only three batters he faced. Unfortunately Cory Gearrin, who relieved Lyman, allowed all three of them to score, though he didn't give up any of his own runs in 2 innings. Craig Kimbrel finally allowed a runner to cross the plate on him, as he gave up 2 runs in 1 inning of work.

Mississippi vs. Montgomery, postponed, rain

Myrtle Beach 4, Kinston 7

Gerry Rodriguez has been one of the most consistent hitters in the system; it seems like every night he's having an impact on the game. Matt Kennelly does some damage with a 2 run triple. A triple is the most exciting play in baseball and it's even more exciting when a catcher hits one. Adam Milligan continues to struggle, he's just 2 for his last 20, both singles, and has struck out 9 times over that span, walking just once. Randall Delgado has a rough start, his first poor one of the season. He didn't walk anyone, but he victimized himself by giving up a pair of homers and making a couple of errors.

Rome 3, Charleston 4, 12 innings

The R-Braves must be the most generous team in the organization because they've played a bunch of free baseball this week. Myke Jones drives in a pair of runs with a single, but it's just his second hit in his last 27 at bats. But Matt Weaver is going strong, with 3 straight 2 hit games, making him 6 for his last 13. 4 walks in 4.1 innings is too many, but Julio Teheran's torrid start to the season continues as he strikes out 7, giving him 22 in 19.2 innings this season. Paul Clemens continues his great start as well, giving up just 1 run in 4.1 innings. After a somewhat middling year with Rome last year he defninitely needed to repeat the level, and he's showing the progress he needed to, allowing just 2 earned runs in 12.1 innings so far while striking out 11.
