Already in his young career, Jason Heyward has put up some remarkable statistics. Because of the tiny sample sizes involved, none of these stats really means much. We certainly shouldn't expect him to keep these paces up, but in the meantime, we can marvel at what the wunderkind has done so far. For instance, here are some of Heyward's splits through his first 13 games in the majors:
- In the 9th inning, Jason Heyward is 3/5 with a BB, 2 HR and a walkoff single. His slash line: .600 AVG / .667 OBP / 1.800 SLG.
- With runners on 3rd, Heyward has yet to make an out: 3/3 with 3 BB (2 of those with the bases loaded).
- With runners in scoring position, Heyward is 8/11 with a HR, 2 2B, and 4 BB, for a .727 / .800 / 1.182 line. That's 3 outs in 15 PA with RISP.
- After a 3-1 count, Heyward has a perfect 1.000 / 1.000 / 4.000 slash line (6 PAs: 5 BB and 1 HR).
- After a 2-0 count, Heyward is doing nearly as well: 2/3 with a HR and 7 BB, for a .667 / .900 / 1.667 line. In other words, Heyward has worked ten 2-0 counts and made one out.
- When ahead in the count, Heyward's line is .386 / .636 / 1.000.
- In tie games, Heyward has hit .364 / .500 / .727.
- When the Braves are trailing, Heyward has hit .286 / .389 / .867.
It doesn't get much better than that, folks, particularly when it comes to clutch situations. There is one situation in which Heyward has been hopeless so far, though: he is only 1/12 (with 2 BB) when leading off an inning.
Remember, do not draw any conclusions from these numbers--except that J-Hey has had a fantastic debut.
