I'm no longer a Gwinnett virgin
I got a call late Monday night...asking if I wanted to go to a Gwinnett Braves game on Tuesday night. I figured, "why not?" since 1) the big boys weren't playing, and B) I'd never been to Coolray stadium. So Tuesday afternoon I made up some excuse to duck out of work early and trekked it up to upper BFE Gwinnett County (btw, I live in Gwinnett, so don't give me any flak) to watch the GBraves give it up to the Burham Dulls. $#&*, I keep unconsciously doing that! You know who I mean.
More after the jump. No, not this one. You - you jump up and down and I'll give you more. That's more like it.
Nice park, I'm pretty pleased with what was done with my property taxes. Impressively clean. You've already seen royhobbs' photos of the park, and Gondeee posted my "view from my seat" photo a couple of days ago, so I'll stick with the players. Got there just before game time...here's Matt Young stretching & a Bull admiring:
I'm not one for interacting with wacky mascots, and I was less than impressed when they debuted the concept of Chopper, but I gotta say that this guy is pretty darn good. Our seats were 2nd row above the visitor dugout, so we saw a lot of Chopper, playing with the kids, rousing the fans and shooting off the tshirt gun - right into the chest of his "handler".
So, for the pitching matchup, we had James Parr versus Jeremy Hellickson. Not sure if James looks better in the black strappy dress and white Go-Go boots I last photographed him in, or his baseball uni. Oh well, different event calls for a different outfit I suppose.
If I was still fun (that's eskimo for 'if I still drank alcohol'), I would've grabbed a margarita and headed out to the pen with these guys...umbrella in the sun, 'ritas and baseball, playing "Fat or Pregnant"... nice spring evening...
Whew, I've got two other posts to do and we all know what a limited vocabulary I have, so here's a row of game shots without words:
(Colvina was with the GBraves last year):
Just for you, rh...apparently same goes for being employed by the GBraves (feels so weird taking a pic of a girl):

GOOD WORK!!! Thanks for the shout out!
Coolray Field?? Is the park sponsored by an air conditioner company??
People will come Ray. The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again.
That’s exactly what it is. Way to fail at trying to be funny.
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.

I love the shot
of Freeman running. Hilarious. It must be tough being a baseball player, knowing that people can take pictures of you making funny faces and then laugh about it snarkily on their blogs.
Great job, as always!

Thanks for sharing!! Great pics. It’s a nice park, we’ve been there 2x but not to a game yet…lol.
I wish I had a good camera

Great stuff! As always! That first Bull is Joaquin Benoit, formerly of the Rangers. Saw him pitch a few innings here in Norfolk last week and he was dominating with 95mph heat. He’s not gonna be down long. And Hellickson was filthy too; his changeup had come miles in the offseason.
Can’t wait to see these the G-Braves here next week!
I wrote a novel, it's about baseball, you should buy it: https://www.createspace.com/3407939

Thanks!
It was nice to be able to be closer to the field and get more of their faces in the pics than the tops of their hats (like I usually get).
Same here. I’m waiting on the crowds to die down a little so I can move around the stadium a little more freely. Since our seats are right at third base, it kind of limits my first base and outfield shots.
Such a catch-22, isn’t it? We want people to come support the team, but as an uncredentialed photog, it’s easier on us if there’s not a crowd. Argh!
Thanks, I know I didn’t do them justice like you do, but I did what I could. :) I’d like to make it back up there on the 30th when CB’s going to be there, but I volunteer on Friday evenings until 7 downtown – may try to leave early or something.
