Atlanta Braves Minor League Recap: 4/14
Some big names from our top 10 were in action tonight. Some fared better than others.
Durham 3, Gwinnett 1 - Final 10 Innings
- B. Clevlen 2-4 2B, K
- F. Freeman 1-4 K
- C. Kimbrel 2IP 3H 0R BB 4K
Gwinnett's offense continues to struggle as they have failed to score more than 2 runs in all 5 of their losses. Freddie Freeman is having a rough adjustment period in AAA and only Brent Clevlen has been consistently on base. Chris Resop did pitch a fantastic game tonight going 6 innings and allowing only 2 hits vs 10 K. Craig Kimbrel appears to have picked up right where he left off last season and could force the Braves to add him to the 40 man if the bullpen deteriorates any.
Mississippi 7, West Tennessee 5
- A. Romero 2-4 2B, 3B, 3 RBI, BB, K
- C. Johnson 1-5 2B, 3K
- M. Minor 4IP 5H 5R 3BB 7K
- L. Hyde 2.1IP 0H 0R 0BB 3K
Mike Minor has been sort of the opposite of the scouting report on him so far this season. He has been more hittable than expected but has posted excellent strikeout numbers so far. I am not too worried about him but 3 is a trend so lets hope he is solid his next time out. Cody Johnson also continues to strike out at an ever higher rate than last year.
Myrtle Beach 0, Frederick 6
- Y. Campusano 1-3 2B, BB, 2K
- C. Shehan 1-3 3B
- R. Delgado 5IP 3H 0R 2BB 5K
After winning 3 straight to start the year the Pelicans have now dropped 3 straight. Their offense mustered just 3 hits in support of Randall Delgado's second strong start. The middle of the order for Myrtle Beach, Gerry Rodriguez and Adam Milligan combined to go 0-6 with 5 K and 2 BB. Delgado has allowed just 1 run in his first 10 innings to along with 10K and just 6 hits allowed.
Rome 2, Greenville 6
- LV Ware 2-4 2B, 2K
- C. Harrilchak 1-4 2B, RBI
- C. Bethancourt 2-4 RBI
- J. Teheran 3.2IP 1H 1R 3BB 5K
- R. Weber 3.1IP 5H 4R 1BB 2K
Rome gets hung for their second straight loss after Julio Teheran made a solid (if short) start. The only run he allowed was a 4th inning home run. His control wasn't quite what I have come to expect of him but he has allowed just 7 base runners in his first 9 innings this year. Ryan Weber, my new man crush, disappointed me a bit with showing but I forgive easily, Also Christian Bethancourt is the hottest hitting player in the Braves system right now.

Will Bethancourt be top-100 by next year?

barring injury yes
a better question would be whats the do you take the over or under on Cody Johnson striking out 200 times this year?
I take the over.
RSF
Rome is 0-2 without RSF in the lineup. He is out for 4-6 weeks with a broken hand that needs surgery. I think it is the same hand he got hit in last year when his numbers started to decline. Does anyone know if it the same hand?

im not to sure
that Freeman and Cody should have started in AAA and AA. Freeman should have started in AA and Johnson in High A IMO. Let them do well where they were last year before pushing them to the next level. Freeman spending half the year in AA and the other half in AAA wouldn’t really make him any less ready IMO
On CoJo
He finished 6th in the league in OPS and led the league in HR. What else does he have to prove in A-Ball?
As for Freeman, learning against AAA pitching may be good for him; there really isn’t a significant difference between AA and AAA for hitters. I think Gwinnett may be the better situation for him for this year, especially if we hope for him to start for us next year.
legalize it, don't criticize it.
This. Cody has nothing to prove in A-Ball. Let’s not freak out over a week.

Still, what does Cody have left to prove at A ball? How long do you stagnate a guy to keep him confident? The only way you ever get better is by moving up and adjusting to the new league.
