Atlanta Braves Minor League Recap: 4/10
Charlotte 1, Gwinnett 5
- M. Young 2-4 2B, RBI, SB(1)
- F. Freeman 0-4 K
- T. Redmond 7IP 3H 1R 0BB 6K
This was a fantastic start for Todd Redmond who just completely shut down Charlotte's lineup. You don't see many guys go 7 innings in their first start of the year, but he threw just 89 pitches. Matt Young sparked the lineup from the second spot by swiping his first bag this season and knocking a double. Freddie Freeman has struggled a little early but not like Mitch Jones who is still without a hit for the year.
Tennessee 7, Mississippi 3
- W. Cabrera 2-5 2B, HR(1), RBI, K
- C. Johnson 1-3 BB, 2K
- S. Diamond 5IP 8H 2R 1BB 5K
Scott Diamond, one of my preferred pitchers in the organization, pitched OK in his season debut, though a little more hittable than I like. Willie Cabrera is my two years running breakout candidate and I am praying he doesn't make me look the fool again this season. Cody Johnson has now struck out in every plate appearance in which he hasn't reached base.
Wilmington 4, Myrtle Beach 6
- G. Rodriguez 1-3 2B, 2BB, RBI, K
- J. Sucre 3-4 2RBI
- Z. Spruill 5IP 5H 3R 1BB 4K
The Braves must be preaching patience pretty hardcore at The Beach this year because they are taking a lot of walks. The team took 11 total in this game with Yoel Campusano taking 3 himself after only 28 in over 400 PAs last year and Gerry Rodriguez has 3 this season after just 27 in nearly 500 PAs. Whatever it is I'll take it, too many guys on this team have plate discipline issues.
Rome 6, Kannapolis 3
- K. Rose 3-4 CS(2)
- M. Jones 2-4 2 2B, 2 RBI
- B. Oberholtzer 4IP 5H 0R 2BB 1K
- R. Lopez 2IP 1H 1R 0BB 2K
- C. Rasmus 1IP 1H 0R 0BB 2K
This Rome team is going to be tough to beat. They have pitching for days and the offense is solid if not dynamic in some aspects (speed). Mycal Jones is going to rack up extra base hits, its just what he does. Robinson Lopez made his full season debut without and looked good. The only thing I worry about with this team is they have only taken 4 walks in 3 games.

Where does Jones go when Salcedo joins Rome?
2b I guess?
pfft if he keeps hitting like this Myrtle Beach. the guy is already old for the level so he needs to move fast. I hope thats what happens anyways.
At the outset I thought that was the plan. Let Jones rake and get confident until Edward is ready, then just move him up to the Beach.

He’s a tall kid with a solid frame. I could see him bulking up enough to necessitate the move, but for now he’s still thin and I say let him play short until his defense says he can’t. It’s going to be interesting to see what an American diet and a concentrated workout plan can do for him.

When?
When will Salcedo join the Rome club?I’ve been wanting to see what he can do against pitching in better leagues. If this kid is what people say he is we will have a good one in a few yrs if not sooner. The good thing I like about his signing is we don’t have to wait until next year to see what he can do.Unlike drafted players who often hold out for the best contract and miss the whole year we have this kid under contract and we can get this guy in early and get him developed.
most people are saying he will be Rome by June. Which considering that he has only been in the United States for about 2 months that would be pretty surprising, but apparently his english is very good and he is adapting quickly.
Kyle Rose is my new BFF
And I don’t even know what he looks like.

Yeah, if he shows any real plate discipline I could really see him busting onto the prospect scene as a nice leadoff candidate. He probably won’t ever have much power though.
It's okay
Heyward will be hitting 70+ homers by the time Rose could make The Bigs.
Seriously tho, is plate discipline his biggest weakness so far?

well his K/BB last year was 21/20 so its not really issue. I was thinking of someone else apparently, but he needs doubles power at the very least.
You guys are getting spoiled:

He looks a little like Curtis Granderson
Can’t wait for the Rome home opener so I can see all these guys in person and not on tape or in scouting reports.
I'd assume extended spring...
his numbers weren’t exactly strong last year in his debut.
