Spring Training Open Thread: Astros at Braves
The Braves take on the Astros once again today, and will hope to score a run this time. Here is today's batting lineup:
Nate McLouth, CF
Martin Prado, 2B
Melky Cabrera, RF
Troy Glaus, 1B
Brian McCann, C
Yunel Escobar, SS
Matt Diaz, LF
Brooks Conrad, 3B
Tommy Hanson, P
This will mark the first time this spring the team hasn't used a DH. Another big note in the lineup is the position of Brooks Conrad, who is playing third base for the first time this spring. His position flexibility will be key if he hopes to make the team. Also, no Jason Heyward for the first time this spring. I'm glad he's getting a day off.

Heyward is getting a normal day off.
Chipper is sitting out with a jammed thumb
Kawakami - 1, Halladay - 0
Heyward is looking pretty good, but the Mets prospects are really looking impressive. Ike Davis and Fernando Martinez.

I hope we never see this lineup in the regular season

Who's pitching today besides Tommy Boy?

Does anyone else think
Manny Acosta passed Chavez on the depth chart
by bravesforever16 on Mar 7, 2010 12:38 PM EST via mobile reply actions
Not yet
But if Chavez keeps getting rocked then Manny could easily pass him.
Chavez and Acosta are basically the same pitcher; great stuff but both just throw and not pitch. Chavez started to figure it out last year, but Manny could at any moment.

Regardless,
we’ll see Manny at some point this year… though not the whole year. Manny is Manny.

Are you doing a RTTS?
My batter freaking sucks. I had to turn batting down to veteran from all-star. My pitcher, on the other hand, is pretty good. Made it to the majors in 2011’s september call-ups. I got rocked though. I need to upgrade my control. I’m on the 40-man and got a ST invite. Not sure if I will make the team yet.
I created a SS last night. I set myself up to get drafted and the Twins pick me up. Hopefully I can get the call up eventually and get to play in their new stadium. I played the first few weeks of the season last night…I’m still a spot starter, but am batting .333 with 1 double. I’ve hit a few hard shots to the wall.
I’ve had it turn on where I’ve watched every single outcome pitch. So ti’s taking like 30 minutes to play a game. I think tonight I’ll turn that off so I can crank through some games. It is cool though…bcecause the 1 double I had was a leadoff double and we ended up scoring 5 runs that inning. I felt like I started that rally.

We’re going to loose
"Batting second and playing shortstop-he's Cuban. Yeah, his name's Pablo...no, eh, Yunel Escobar, sorry"
I am pretty sure that they’ve already stretched, so they should be pretty loose already.

Maybe Bobby saw my article about Tommy's crappy hitting...
and that’s why he’s batting today instead of a DH. It’s not a big deal that he can’t hit, but if we can get him to just not be terrible, it might help us pick up a few runs. Hopefully getting some ST ABs (whoa… STABs! I am so using that acronym from now on) will help him get comfortable.

Hanson walked one, and that runner scored. 1-1
Anyone wanna fill me on what Diaz was trying to do stealing home? Did he just get picked off? Mobile just says he was caught trying to steal home. lol

I have a major crush on him :)
When asked what aspects of Heyward’s game need improvement, one scout simply replied, "Nothing."
People seem to bash Glaus harder than most because he’s coming back from an injury. I don’t understand it. This guy could HIT when he was healthy – there’s absolutely no reason to think he won’t gain his previous form back.
Kawakami - 1, Halladay - 0
Yep, he's been very impressive thus far.
I love that he will take a walk before he will swing at crap. I hope this rubs off on some of “our regulars”.
When asked what aspects of Heyward’s game need improvement, one scout simply replied, "Nothing."
Exactly. With Chipper and Glaus’ patience at the plate… Escobar, McCann, and Heyward should be getting plenty of chances to drive in runs.

Best pick up in the off season, imo

This is the sum total of my physics knowledge: A physics question will present you with 2 pieces of information which you, by crossing 37.5 formulas in, through, around, and over each other are expected to use to come up with 47,000 other pieces of information. With correct sig-figs.
Blech.
even that was over my head..

You weigh 175 lbs sitting on the top of a hill. If you roll down and go 400 feet, find:
initial elevation
downward slope of hill
upward slope at bottom of hill that you ramp off of
Escape velocity (how fast you’re going off the ramp)
highest elevation gained before gravity causes you to begin falling again
How many feet horizontally traveled before acheiving the apex of your flight
How long it takes to go ^that distance
How many band-aids you’ll need after hitting the ground again.
Basic physics question. And if you had a teacher like mine, this would be one of TWO questions on a test, and thus worth 50 points. Needless to say there were way more than our fair share of F’s in that class…
damn…its things like this that tell me my shatty AA degree is good enough…lol..

Either that, or they’ll make one problem worth a lot and the rest nothing. I still don’t get how getting 7 out of 8 problems right on my last test was worth a 70%.

Maybe a little
But not too early to hope. He seems like a better option that Thurston to me, but we all know how Bobby gives the vets points for being vets, so Conrad needs to keep it up.
even last year when he ripped it up i was hoping he would stay up…

Freddie Freeman has surely surprised me this spring. I knew he was good, but he’s solidifying why many scouts called him 1B to Heyward’s 1A as our top prospect. If Glaus has a comeback year and is deserving of a contract, we may have a nice problem on our hands come 2011.
Kawakami - 1, Halladay - 0
Nah
If he does, he’ll go somewhere for much bigger bucks than we care to offer and the Freeman era will begin. I don’t think it’ll end up being much of an issue.
maybe he’ll go back to 3rd if chip has another down year…..heres hoping that he hits .364 again…
