Spring Training Open Thread: Astros at Braves
The Braves meet the Astros for the final time this spring. They next see Houston a month from yesterday for a 3-game series at the Ted. Here is today's lineup:
Melky Cabrera, CF
Jason Heyward, RF
Chipper Jones, 3B
Troy Glaus, 1B
Brian McCann, C
Yunel Escobar, SS
Matt Diaz, LF
Omar Infante, 2B
Derek Lowe, P
Following Lowe will be Peter Moylan, Jesse Chavez, Eric O'Flaherty, and Jonny Venters. Four relievers, I guess that means Lowe will only go five innings.

CSS shows a replay at 7pm
that’s why I’m not following the game today.

Updated lineup:
Prado is in there for Chipper because of an ingrown toenail or something. DOB said Chip would be playing tho if the game counted.

J-Hey in the 2-slot?
Interesting….I thought he was supposed to be 6 or 7, partly for his own sake and partly to anchor the lower part of the order…..
Dang, I thought this game was on TV. I don’t see a link on MLB.TV yet for it…guess I won’t be watching.
I looked earlier this morning and it said it was on mlb.tv

That’s an incedible line up for today’s game. Is anybody worried about our offense when those come back to earth? Or is it just a sign that the Braves are plenty capable offensively?

All season
I know, I’m not asking for much but….
Sheridan " Braves look dangerous this season", I agree.
And as for Lowe, I am not too worried; Halladay is getting beat down worse in his final spring start (for Halladay, 3 doubles, a homer and a single in the first led to 4 runs).
Plus, we got some O this year to help our pitchers out with run support.
Sheridan " Braves look dangerous this season", I agree.
Astros start with the Giants next week; Braves get them second in the regular season after the Cubs.
Chris Shelton. Just lowe, ball one.
Ball outside… 2-0.
Rocketed…. to Heyward on the track ran down for out 1!
I have no idea...
…but my guess is that he keeps his ST number for spring training and then will be wearing 22 for the exhibition games in Atlanta this weekend.
well at least lowe isn’t all sweaty yet. that’s when i get worried.

In my family he would be considered, a Giant, no pun intended.
Sheridan " Braves look dangerous this season", I agree.
Melky. Strike one. Fouled back.
Shattered bat fly out to Sullivan (wherever he plays).
END OF INNING.
Not really,
a walk and 2 run hr in the first.
Sheridan " Braves look dangerous this season", I agree.
I have a feeling Pence is gonna have a big year. I should have taken him in my fantasy league.

Feliz. Strike 1.
He doubled the first time.
Tapped to 3 rd baseline.
Infante could not get him out. Single.
Should have been out of the inning, high throw to first.
Sheridan " Braves look dangerous this season", I agree.
No harm done, out of the third, no runs given up.
Sheridan " Braves look dangerous this season", I agree.
did they just say the Central will be better than the west? ehhh. The Central to me is the worst division in the NL.
HEYWARD – Ball one… Swinging foul back to the screen.
Repeat for strike two.
LINER up middle – SINGLE.
Heyward's...
…first hit of the spring against a lefty. Yeah! Now the quick splits won’t show that damn .000 any more.
PRADO: Strike 1. Lined to Right(?) for SINGLE.
“Two on for Glaus”…. I really like that phrase for this year.
Key words though "Spring Training"
I really hope this carries over into the regular season as well.

Visit to mound. Apparently this guy was only going 2 innings today, but changed to 3, I guess. He’s gonna be a Dad again tomorrow.
ESCOBAR: almost hit him. High. Ball two…. Ripped to Left. SINGLE.

Heyward almost did just now, opposite field. That ball went a LONG way for one that looked like it was just slapped and fought off.

Swing/Miss. 1-1.
Apparently the Heyward Netting was not erected.
Stroke deep to left…. Chased down for third out.
Sullivan make a good catch, to end the rally

a little clubhouse divide? Nice.

2 outs , runner on first, now single , runners on 1st and 2nd.

Question
hey guys and gals. i live in canada and its hard to get the baseball. does anyone know where i can get the braves on radio online for free? is there a site that broadcasts all the games? and help is appreciated. Also can we get more information on our pitchers this year please.

yes it was, kinda funny with our lead, but otherwise, I would not be laughing.
Sheridan " Braves look dangerous this season", I agree.
Lowe should have gotton on his knees...
…Lenny Randle style and blown it foul.
With Chavez coming in later,
a few more runs would be nice….
Sheridan " Braves look dangerous this season", I agree.
BOTTOM FOURTH; 9-3.
Prado, Glaus, McCann scheduled. Unless the schedule gets changed, but I doubt it yet.
Glaus now 3 for 3.
Gotta love what you see from him thus far.
Sheridan " Braves look dangerous this season", I agree.
Streaming audio link?
Anyone have a link to the radio broadcast?
Strike one to Chris Johnson (homer/HBP today).
Ball. Ball.
Hit high to RF. Heyward (they say) catches it for OUT 2.

The prank was three baby pigs let loose in the clubhouse while Eddie was in the shower. Apparently others were more effected than Eddie!
IN OTHER NEWS…
Denard Spann drilled his Mother in the stands with a foul ball today… went into the stands to attend to her (taken to hospital as precaution, I believe)
This is unusual for EOF, could he be experimenting with some pitches, with the big lead?
Sheridan " Braves look dangerous this season", I agree.
West, telling him to move it along, he was taking forever between pitches.
It was funny, Joe West is something else….

gotta love our pitching depth, especially in the near future.

Grounder – one out.
I dunno who’s pitching for the Astros now.
Escobar claimed to hit a soft pop-out to the outfield. That’s more likely Hicks, I guess.
TWO OUTS quickly.

I don't know
I mean, Conrad has certainly played well. But at some point you have to look at it and say Brooks is 30 and hasn’t had made a significant impact in the MLB in his career. Thurston is a veteran, to my knowledge, and has at least shown he can produce adequately at this level. Either way I think we’re okay at that final spot.
Venters gives up single to….ah, hell, I dunno who.

Do you think mcclouth will stay? or will diaz have more of an impact this season?
by David G. Little on Mar 31, 2010 5:19 PM EDT up reply actions
im obviously not Bobby
but I can’t justify having MattyD out of the lineup whenever a lefty is in the game. I just can’t. I think he’ll get 99.9% of the starts against lefties and an occasional start against a righty when Melky, Heyward or McLouth are hurt or in a slump.
McLouth has been hitting better as of late and it seems like he’s seeing the ball a bit better as well. Even if his struggles continue into the season, I think he’ll get until at least May 1st to sort everything out. Bobby is incredibly loyal and lets his guys work out of slumps. Nate will get his chance. If for some reason McLouth is still struggling a month into the season, I think Melky would play CF every day, with Diaz in LF and Heyward in RF and the Braves look at their options (i.e. Schafer being called up, trades, etc.)
