Around SBN: How NBA Draft Lottery Results Affect Prospects' High Hopes

Spring Training Open Thread: Yankees at Braves

The Braves and KK face the Yankees. The Yanks are apparently going to use an ambidextrous pitcher in this game.

The Braves lineup:

Melky Cabrera, RF
Martin Prado, 2B
Chipper Jones, 3B
Troy Glaus, 1B
Yunel Escobar, SS
Matt Diaz, LF
Nate McLouth, CF
Clint Sammons, C
Kenshin Kawakami, P

After KK, the pitcher should be Billy Wagner, Takashi Saito, and Scott Proctor.

Apparently Dale Murphy is at the park and will present today's lineup card. I bet we get some articles on what he thinks about Heyward.

Ambidextrous Pitcher for Yankees

This guy is pitching for the Yankees today: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-2oD8KzxS14

He throws with both arms…so will Melky and Chipper keep swapping sides when the pitcher keeps swapping arms to throw with???

by Dave_D on Mar 30, 2010 12:46 PM EDT reply actions

Which side did you bat from? I hear he’s harder to hit as a lefty…

by Dave_D on Mar 30, 2010 1:00 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah does anyone know...

what the exact rules for him are? Can he switch during the at-bat or just between the every batter? And can the hitters switch as he does?

by bravesforever16 on Mar 30, 2010 12:51 PM EDT up reply actions

And can he save a lot of money by switching to Geico?

Interesting, Brooks Conrad came up and apparently they told him he couldn’t swap (the pitcher) as Conrad batted left and Venditte pitched righty…interesting.

Was that after everybody took their positions, perhaps (pitcher on rubber; batter in box)?

by carpengui on Mar 30, 2010 2:54 PM EDT up reply actions

He has to announce which side he’s pitching from before the hitter does. Since Conrad’s a switch hitter, Venditte had to commit to pitching righty.

Barbaro Canizares was at first last year, but he DH’d most of the time and Wes Timmons played 1B most of the time. I think Timmons will be at 3B this year and Canizares will DH and Freeman will play first. Canizares can spell Freeman against tough lefties as he’s a RH hitter, and he’s still with the organization.

Usually

I’m drooling over the guys in the pictures. But with you, I’m drooling over the incredible quality of your pics! I had to go to Wolf the other day to return something my mom bought, and the guy there was trying pretty hard to talk me into getting a D90. Will have to look into what he was saying about a motor in some of the lenses.

by Lizziebeth on Mar 30, 2010 3:27 PM EDT up reply actions

D90 is a good camera (uses the D300 and D300s sensor. The motor in the lenses he’s talking about is the AF-S motor. If a lens is AF-S it means it focuses faster and that the focus motor is in the lens. If it’s not an AF-S lens then it means the focus motor on the camera drives the auto focus. Most newer lenses are AF-S, and some cameras don’t have a focus motor in the camera (like the D40 and I think the D60).

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask.

I bought my wife the D90 last year. It’s a really good camera. I’m not a camera buff myself, but you really need to get a good lens to go with it. I didn’t get one cause a good lens costs as much as the camera. Ridiculous.

I’ll stick to playing video games. It’s a less expensive hobby at least.

I’m so attached to my 300mm that a compatible one is a must (unfortunately this one only fits Canons). A. Bartlett Giamatti
