Mlb.tv for out of area fans?
Hey Fellow TCers. I've been following this blog for about six months or so and have yet to post yet. Anyhow, I've been a life long braves fan and can't wait for this season to start. I recently transfered from Emory, where I saw around 30-40 games at Turner Field, back home to Louisiana, where none are broadcast. My question is this: Has anyone had any experience with MLB.TV? I'm really thinking about dropping a c-note on it (which is a lot of cash for poor college students). If so, is it worth paying the extra twenty to have access to the premium features, notably the option of having the choice of away/home broadcasts? Any help or feedback would be greatly appreciated
Go Braves!

MLB.TV
I just subscribed to it this spring. I love it already. I bought the standard package and at least this spring I have been able to get home and away broadcasts. The other premium features like DVR I didn’t care much about and that’s why I went with the standard package. To be honest, I did MLB extra innings last year and kind of liked it when the Braves played an away game so I could hear the opposing announcers thoughts.
As long as you’re not in a blackout area it’s pretty awesome. But be prepared to be blacked out of several games a year. I live in central north carolina and somehow i’m in the local blackout area for all oriole and nationals games. If the bravos are playing either of them, i’m shit out of luck for that day. National broadcasts work the same way, if fox saturday has the rights to the game then you’ll be blacked out for that one too. If you’re in Louisiana then you’ll probably be blacked out of astros and rangers games but probably not others. There is a blackout map somewhere on the mlb site so you can see exactly what kind of area coverage you have.

If you are blacked out, you can change your IP address fairly easily. Then MLB.tv can’t recognize where you are. Me and my roommate use to do that all the time.

Oh by the way, you just google IP addresses and then find it listed in your servers options.

I roll with the MLB.TV premium. The best $120 you will EVER spend. EVER. It comes in High-Def (most games), so if you have a laptop and an HDTV you can run an HDMI cable between them and its every game on your TV in HD. Also, I love the DVR feature. I have a night class at college, so I can just start the game Top 1 when I get back and be able to watch the whole game. Honestly, it’s amazing
I used it last year and I’m signing up again this year. Premium is most excellent, everything is in HD. I’m in a blackout area for the Braves, but I bought the package cuz I work a metric ton of night shifts at a sandwich shop and miss most of the games, so I go home on those nights and dial up the archive and watch ‘em anyway. If I happen to be home I just watch the broadcast on cable and use mlb.tv to follow my fantasy players. If you’re out of the blackout area, though, this is a no-brainer, especially if you have a hook-up to your TV like I do with my laptop.
I also live in Louisiana, and though I’ve never had MLB.TV, I have had MLB Extra Innings for the past two years, and I love it. You get to watch just about every game all season long. You’re subject to blackouts, which in LA means no games when the Braves play the Astros, but they come on Fox Sports most of the time (unless Fox decides to show a Rangers game instead…). But, I like it because you can watch the games on a regular TV in your living room, not a tiny computer screen.
And one of the big plus’s of MLB.TV over extra innings is that you can pick up the Braves home feed, which I enjoy much much more

Just got it for the spring.
Worth every penny already in my opinion.

Does anyone know if you can have it going on two systems at once. like on two computers at the same time. thinking about spliting cost with friend to save some bucks in college but didnt know if we could both watch at the same time. Any ideas would be great.

I used my friends account last year, and we had no problem using it on two computers. Not sure about two at once though, but iirc it should work

Ditto I did that a couple years ago with more than two computers. But you know technology, always advances. So they may have figured out a way to fix that.

I get MLB Extra Innings
but that’s just cause I don’t always have access to a computer during games and i’d rather watch on my 50inch plasma instead of my 15inch monitor. That and it goes to every tv in the house so you can watch anywhere.

This will be my third year with MLB.tv
very pleased with it in general, though the footage does get choppy sometimes.

First time dropping said C-Note on MLB.tv
And so far I like what I am seeing this spring. They just got it working on my iPhone with MLB at bat 2010 app today and although it was a bit grainy and hard to see the ball because it is such a small screen so I prob won’t use it much on my phone. Had to do it though once TBS dropped the Braves. Spent the last couple of seasons without the games and it has sucked to be at the mercy of ESPN for games. Plus, this way I shouldn’t have to listen to that blowhard Joe Morgan and crew when I do get to watch the game.

+1
TBS really threw a monkey wrench into my baseball seasons. I was wondering about buying MLB.TV and everyone here has convinced me it’s a good choice. All I can get out here in New Mexico is Rockies and Diamondbacks games. I just can’t seem to develop an interest in them and I’ll be damned if I’m gonna miss Bobby’s last season like I did last year. I hope he changes his mind, though.
