Spring Training Open Thread: Braves at Jays

I'm posting this the night before, so I'm not certain on the batting order, but I do know that Derek Lowe will be on the mound, followed by Eric O'Flaherty, Jo-Jo Reyes, Jonny Venters, Craig Kimbrel, and Manny Acosta. Should be a good game.

Cool. I think it’s on the radio today and I’m actually in a place I can get a signal. Now just to not get interrupted.

1-2-3 inning

McLouth now hitting .030. Heyward lined out
to left.

I’d do play by play, but Nova-St. Marys is going to be a great game.

Just a thought

Why do let guys doing well in Spring Training (like Heyward) give us permission to get excited about how well they might do, but don’t let poor performances (like Nate’s) give us permission to be concerned?… But certainly not saying there should be panic…

by BahamaBrave on Mar 20, 2010 1:40 PM EDT up reply actions

If Chipper were hitting like Heyward, I don’t think we would be talking about it. But, since Heyward is a 20 year old, the best prospect in the game, and the future of our franchise, he naturally generates the excitement, even if it is ST.

Same for Glaus – who hasn’t generated as much excitement, but who is actually having a better spring than Heyward. I am excited about Glaus because he is coming off the injury, but looks fantastic.

Remember a few years ago when Andruw Jones led all ST with 10 HRs, but then didn’t hit that much during the regular season?

"My team of nine guys who hit like Albert Pujols and never ever bunt just beat your team with one Shane Victorino 472 to 3."

by justincredubil02 on Mar 20, 2010 1:43 PM EDT up reply actions

I hear ya… I just wonder if people are being consistent… since it is Spring Training for both.

As for Andruw… I thought that was the season he did hit 50 HRs… could be wrong.

by BahamaBrave on Mar 20, 2010 1:45 PM EDT up reply actions

Maybe you are right…I have trouble remembering yesterday, let alone 5 years ago. lol

ST is different for rookies than it is for vets. Rookies are trying to show what they can do, while vets (like McLouth) are tweaking things. We know how McLouth will hit – he has a solid track record of being a good hitter. I am not going to let 2 weeks in March change my perception of him.

Even though his track record is encouraging, his 1 for whatever line this spring justifies concern.

Truth this

Nobody’s talking much about the insane line that McCann is putting up this Spring.

Spring performance does matter, but spring numbers mean zilch. There’s zero correlation between those numbers and the numbers from the regular season.

Ladies, I need some help. On my date last night, things were going great. Then all of a sudden, my wife got mad at me, because I don’t think we should have a baby right now. Like, she is still pissed this morning, and not talking to me. WTF? We are in our 20s (I am 25 and she is 23), we have student loans to pay off and aren’t financially set yet. Those are my reasons. She just wants a baby, because she thinks they are sooooo cute and all that jazz.

You're absolutely right.

I don’t get it either. I don’t know how to help you with her irrational and illogical reasons. Babies are not cute at 2, 3, 4:30, 4:45, etc. AM while they’re puking yellow stuff and squirting green stuff that smells like tuna. Nor when they’re 9 and doing the same thing, just on a larger scale (double bed, carpet).
Babies are cutest when they’re someone else’s and you can give them back and go home to your fun life, while you’re young enough to enjoy it. You guys are too young to restrict yourselves right now. I say give it a few years, if ever.
Ask her doesn’t she have enough to do with keeping up after you? ;)

Not too worried. Worst case scenario, we still probably have a pitching staff that’s stop 5 in the NL. The worst case scenario for the offense is much worse.
