MLB 2K10
MLB 2K10 comes out tonight! The last several years of the game have sucked in my opinion which makes me miss the MVP games. I heard 2K10 has some new features this year though and is suppose to be better. If anybody plays the game here soon it'd be cool if you would comment and tell me how it is.
2 balls, 1 strike, what tension! A lotta room in right center if he hits one there we can dance in the streets, the 2-1......

Do yourself a favor and buy The Show. If you don’t have a PS3 yet, get off your ass and get one of those too. Early reports are that 2K10 is graphically inferior to 2K9 (though they mention that this does in fact mean a framerate increase, so I guess that’s a silver lining) but the same complaint from years past reared its ugly head again- it’s a buggy, unfinished-feeling game.
thats what i’ve heard but since i have a 360 my options are limited. i’m not about to get a PS3 for one game
if ur a fan of baseball games…..‘the show’ is worth buying a ps3 for….
Pujols is NOT God.... sure he'll hit .350, hit 50 bombs, and drive in a 125....but then again...so will Heyward..

You gotta get The Show
some folks around here got me into it, and it really is the best baseball game out there. But I know what you mean, I miss the MVP games so bad. I still play them all the time, because I spent hours and hours creating players and updating all the rosters.
The third-base umpire ran into the outfield and retrieved the biggest chunk. "It's a f***in' potato."

I’ve spent way too much time updating rosters on MVP 05. About the college game, the Braves’ philosophy of drafting HSers is evident, since I don’t believe they’ve had a player on that game play in the majors.
HS team nickname: Redmen, College team nickname: Warriors, Amateur team nickname: Chiefs, Favorite MLB team: Braves. Holy political incorrectness...
Everyone knows that The Show is the better game, but some of us don’t have that option. So telling him he should get The Show doesn’t do him any good.
To the OP, I’ll be getting 2K10 so I’ll let you know what I think. 2K9 actually wasn’t terrible after they patched it a dozen times. It’s completely unacceptable for them to release a game with as many bugs as these normally have, but lets just cross our fingers that they patch 2K10 quickly.
IGN said it was an improvement over last year’s game. Still waiting for Destructoid’s review.

Anxiously awaiting your review...
Got a Wii, so it’s the only choice for me, and wondering if it was worth it.
I should say in advance that I normally spend the majority of my time in the franchise mode with this game, so if you guys are looking for an accurate review of online play I might not be the best bet. With that being said, I plan on spending about 3 hours tonight checking out this new “My Player” feature so I’ll let you know about that tomorrow.

Thanks,...
and I’ll respond saying I would likely be playing in a similar fashion (much more in franchise mode than online).
Alright, well from what I played last night they made two changes to the franchise mode that I’m very happy about. The ability to manage games has returned with something called the Super Sim. Here’s how the developers summed it up:
Super Sim is a great way to get through games during your season that you don’t particularly want nor have time to play, but still want to have some control over. With Super Sim, you have three simming options: you can simulate one play at a time, one half inning, or one full inning. You will be able to follow along with the game play by play as you sim through it and will be able to jump into the game and play whenever you want (you can also jump back to the Super Sim screen whenever you want after you are in-game).
So if you are simming a game using Super Sim and see that the game is getting heated in the late innings, you can easily jump in and finish the game, or just jump in for an at-bat or two, then go back to the Super Sim screen. On the flip side if you are playing a game and have built a big lead and don’t want to finish playing it all the way through, you can go to the Super Sim screen and quickly sim through to the end of the game and follow it that way.
In last years game for some reason they would also show exactly where the pitch was going so if you were doing a franchise with another person (like I normally do) and your teams were playing one another you could easily see the pitch location during every at bat. Thankfully this has been removed.
I spent about 3 hours playing the new “My Player” feature. Very fun, I must say. I created myself as a CF and am currently tearing it up in AA. The games are simmed until there is a moment where your players is directly involved, whether it be an AB or a play in the field. Succeed and you’re rewarded with talent points that you may use to upgrade your player in any number of ways (contact, power, arm strength, range, etc).
Alot of the reviews complained about how the constant jumping in and out of games for only the plays your player is directly involved in was a pain in the ass, but I didn’t mind one bit. Besides, do you really want to have to sit through every AB that you’re not part of? Every play? Backing up other players? That’d be terrible. My only complaint is that the camera is very restrictive, but I suppose it’s supposed to mimic your players plane of view as it would be in real life so it makes sense. I’ve heard that if you do the “My Player” mode as a pitcher it’s the best since you have the most control over the game, whereas the catcher is the worst since you have no control.
So far so good! If you want to do some more reading I recommend checking out the developer’s blog.

OK, now I'm mad at you...
not really, but got 2K10 for Wii. Maybe I didn’t give it enough of a chance (couple hours), but I already took it back (gamestop has a bonus for trade ins, and knew I’d NEVER play it so max out value now for a game later).
My review for the Wii—
Main page is horrible to navigate having to use a combination of the nunchuk and regular controller.
Rosters were apparently done a week or two before Christmas, as they have Halladay with the Phillies, but no Javy to the Yankees deal. Medlen was in the rotation with Hanson in AAA. Odalis Perez was on the roster (it was obviously his picture) as J. Pendergrass, and was the teams 2nd best pitcher.
Trades are ridiculous—dealt Javy and Huddy for Felix Hernandez and Aardsma, then Wags and McLouth for Longoria since the team didn’t have a 1B.
And playing was rough. Not easy to field using the combo mentioned above, nor was pitching.
I’d go on, but as mentioned above, I didn’t really give it a chance to go much more in depth.
Hated it, absolutely hated it (and no, I’m not mad at you beard, more mad at myself for wasting money on a game I knew Wii couldn’t possibly do well).
Yikes.
I had my reservations about whether or not the Wii could pull it off, but that sounds like a train wreck. Ha, any chance you can convince your wife to pickup a PS3/360?
I can’t imagine the football games play all that well on the Wii, do they?

I'll probably shoot for a PS3 soon...
with the ease of claiming Blu Ray player too.
And I’m doubtful of any true (i.e. non-Mario) sports games now. This was pretty bad, from the roster makeup to navigating from place to place (rosters, free agents, etc) to game play itself. Maybe others do better with it, but I certainly wouldn’t recommend it. I’m most likely to make a PS3 my next gaming purchase.
I’m not sure why you had problems with the roster makeup. The day I popped my copy into my 360 the first thing that happened was a roster update. Everyone is where they belong I my copy, maybe your roster update never occurred?
As far as navigation, was it bad because of the Wii controller setup or you simply didn’t like the game’s interface? Because this years iteration is light years better than last years. Same with game play, much smoother than last year. Not sure if you played 2K9, but 2K10 is an improvement in almost every department.
Either way, if you eventually get a PS3 you’ll have The Show which you’d be hard pressed to find a negative review out there.

I don't think our Wii...
gets an internet connection, so that probably explains the roster for me.
As for navigation, it was a combo of both. I didn’t really like how they had it set up, but using the controller/nunchuk combo to have to move around was a HUGE pain in the backside.
Never played 2k9 so no reference there to draw from in changes.
Well, I can only see one solution to all of this…get a PS3! Ha, good luck with the convincing.

11 is out soon.
I hope you saw my fanshot about the reduced price they had going. It was $24 last week.
yes, I am still on the fence about it this year. Have you played any of the beta stuff? I feel like X was really good after it was patched up
Haven't played the beta stuff.
I am jazzed about all of the draft improvements and the fact that high schoolers go to college. That and the ability to mass select players. I was a pain in the ass to pick all of the guys to send down after ST.
Yeah, I got the Newsletter and got it at the reduced price. Can’t beat that. Although the one thing I hope they fix is the financial system. It was a mess at the beginning of last year.

same on The Show
And somehow Derek Lowe is quite a bit better than tommy hanson and JJ. hmmm….

In my RTTS career I kept getting interrupted in mid-July (simming the first menial season) because the big club kept selling off Jurrjens. After backing out and reloading about a dozen times I finally decided to live with it- then they went and traded Moylan too. The AI cannot be trusted to make decisions on its own.
The trading logic is messed up. The SCEA guys have already found a fix for it. I’m astounded, they made a post on the Operation Sports forums at like noon yesterday addressing all of the begs people had found and that they were on there way to releasing a patch. Apparently Franchise mode is all jacked up. The CPU puts guys on waivers and never pulls them back. You could assemble an all-star team (like the Yankees) by picking guys like A-Rod and Mauer off the waiver wire.
so that's what that 10 minute update was for...
i was surprised to see a big update that fast/

In 2K10 JJ and Hanson both have 84s, Hudson has an 80, and Lowe and Kawakami have an 77.

I feel like that’s a little low for Lowe (no pun intended). I was surprised to see that our hitting was rated higher than our pitching.

our pitching and hitting are both pretty high up there on the show, but our fielding is absolutely horrible. it really brought down our overall team rating.

He is not going to be in any baseball game
as a real person yet. They might have his name, but because he is not on the 40 man roster or has never played a game in the major leagues I don’t think they have the right to him yet.
by bACEballstud on Mar 3, 2010 12:25 AM EST up reply actions
Even his name won’t be until he plays his first non-ST MLB game. Sony has promised constant updates this year to match real-life rosters, even DLing guys that get hurt out here, so we’ll see if he ends up being inserted in a future roster update. This is me holding my breath though- usually in those situations they just insert one of the randomly generated minor leaguers for that roster spot, and those guys never do the real-life player justice.
In 2K10 there’s a left handed RF on the Mississippi squad who’s 21 years old named James Hartfield, or something along those lines. I’m not sure if that’s supposed to be him (isn’t he only 20?), but he’s only got like a 64 overall which is pretty weak…

I hope so. I used to always take one of the top-100 prospects lists and go through each team and find the corresponding player and change the names.

me too
and I’d go in and change things like Esco’s fielding (which was bad in 2009) and MattyD’s hitting against LHPs.

I got a little sick of last year's
since they didn’t have Schafer, Heyward, Freeman, or Hanson. So I created all of them and they were the 4 best players. But I didn’t have the heart to make them worse. Do you think this RTS is worth getting?
The Jordan Schafer Fan Club.
you mean The Show?
if so, yes, without a doubt. it’s truly a great baseball game. simple, but so in depth at the same time.

2010 the Show so far is pretty good. I’ve played a couple of games and hit a couple of mammoth home runs. First game I Played with the Braves was in Spring Training and McCann hit a 463 ft homer to right, Chipper hit a 450 ft homer to center and Glaus and Melky also homered. So far so good…

homeruns in the 09 version were hard to hit unless you adjusted sliders….(or at least for me)…..actually now that i think about it……it was pretty much realistic…

anyone ever play MLB power pros?
the game is a little cutsie, but it is way fun, and the gameplay/franchise options are great
i think theres a failsafe in 2k10……how much u wanna bet u can 26 outs 2 or 3 times but that 27th guy will always get ya….he’ll probably do it on a slider 3 ft out the zone….
