Braves vs. Blue Jays 3-13-10
I attended my first Spring Training game down in Kissimmee, FL this past weekend. Despite the downpour and about 45 minutes spent getting lost and trying to find our way back to our motel on Friday, it was a great day for a game on Saturday. We got to the complex around 7:15 am to see if we could score some autographs and saw Jason Heyward and Jordan Schafer, among other minor leaguers, pass by, but weren't able to get anyone to sign. We stopped by the EPSN Clubhouse Store and got a t-shirt. There were already a lot of people there for other miscellaneous events. We left shortly after to get breakfast and hit some of the places nearby. Around 11:15 am, we arrived back at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex to a mass of people and an assortment of age groups of cheerleaders.
We weren't able to stay for the entirety of the game because of the 5+-hour drive to South Georgia we had ahead of us to get home, but we stayed until around the 5th or 6th inning when some of the regulars started to come out. Our seats in section 107, row D were great and it was a great trip overall.
My camera isn't the best one out there, but here are a few of the pictures I snagged while at the game. Photo Gallery (Click link to see the rest).
The view from our seats.
Troy Glaus signing autographs.
David Ross coming back from the bullpen after warming up with Tim Hudson.
Chipper after hitting into a double play.
Billy Wagner mowing them down.

Seriously did everyone go to one of these split squad games?
I don't need the Cat Lady to throw cats at me to let me know she's crazy!

So funny, I feel like everybody but me is in FL at spring training. Oh well! Appreciate everybody’s willingness to take the time to put together a post about it, though. Thanks for sharing and kudos for making the long trip for such a short amount of time.
No problem. It was a very short trip, but it was fun. Hopefully next time I can go for a few more days.

Troy Glaus signing autographs? That’s like getting a shot of Bigfoot.

He was only going to sign one for a kid that called him over and then everyone kinda bombarded him. He signed for like five minutes or so, actually.

I’m serious, it’s rare to see him touch a pen.

I’ve heard from my St Louis buddies that Troy is great with his teammates in the clubhouse but isn’t fan friendly at all except for a rare occasion. Any idea why?

Because he was originally an Angel. I think they train their players from day one not to interact with the fans. Seriously though, I don’t know. Some guys are just like that. Jeremi Gonzalez was one of the biggest jerks I’ve ever encountered, but when he died I all I heard were stories from his teammates about how he was the best guy they knew. I don’t see why it’s hard to just be a good human being to other human beings.

Yea, what’s up with that crap, somebody who’s a jerk dies and all of a sudden s/he’s a great human being. I have an personal incident like that in my life and it’s just ridiculous.
Personally I was still talking shit about Gonzalez, and will continue to do so. Maybe he was cool to some folks, but he was a dick to everyone I know.
There was this other autograph collector who lived in Virginia and drove all around and often ended up at the same games I did and he was just a crusty old dick who would always make the day worse just by his presence. He died last offseason and when I got the news I said, ‘Good. We won’t have him fucking up our good time any more." Everyone around me was upset by that and couldn’t believe I’d talk about a dead guy like that. The guy was 70, he had a good long life of being an asshole and making everyone miserable, just cause he died doesn’t suddenly make him a great person, he’s just a dead asshole.
