Like College Basketball? Join March Madness at Talking Chop!
Hello all. I've been around the blog for a while now and always notice that we have a strong college basketball following. I'm a HUGE hoops fan and I always enter a bracket with a bunch of my buddies and co-workers (I took 1st place in '09 and 3rd in '08 so watch out!). I thought it would be fun to have a March Madness bracket with my fellow TC members. And if for some reason you're a non-Braves fan just roaming the blog, feel free to join as well.
It's free to join the league and all you have to do is have/create an account with CBS Sports (which is free as well). I did an extra one just to see and it took me less than 3 minutes to create. So you have no excuse not to join!
Here is all the information you'll need:
Link to the league: http://tchop.mayhem.cbssports.com/e
Password: gobraves
And like I said above, all you have to do is have a CBS Sports account. Simple, right? I'm using CBSSports because I used it last year and thought it was really easy to navigate. It also has up to the minute scoring which is nice as well.
Once the tournament is over, I'll post the results.
The scoring system, which can be seen on the league page as well, is really simple (1pt for correct 1st round pick, 2pts for correct 2nd round pick, 4pts for correct 3rd round pick, 8pts for correct 4th round pick, and so on.)
Everyone is allowed one bracket entry and I'm pretty sure all picks are due by a few minutes before the first games on Thursday.
If you have any problems/questions/concerns, feel free to bring them up.
Oh, and I know it warrants a hanging if you ask for your own Fanpost to be rec'd, but we should all rec this to keep it at the top. It'll help get as many participants as possible.
And like always, go Braves and go Zona Wildcats.

Ugh...
Few coaches have done less with more than Billy Donovan. He can recruit, but his coaching (outside of 2 seasons) has not been nearly at the level of his recruiting.
He’s been hurt by players leaving early (and by no means am I saying that other coaches don’t deal with this) and injuries. But, every single year we have people leave that we absolutely have to have. He got in this year with one point guard, (who’s 5 foot nothing) when Calathles for whatever reason decided to go to Greece (Still scratching my head about that).
And of course the Gators have a Dan Werner handicap.

Keep making excuses...
Tyus, Boyton, Walker, Werner, Parsons, Macklin. The guy can recruit and his team never lacks for talent.
Fact remains, outside of perhaps Paul Hewitt, few college coaches can compare with Donovan on the level of talent they bring in and the minimal production they get from it. David Lee, Matt Walsh, and Anthony Roberson stuck around a while, how many NCAA games did they win? The man excelled for two years with a perfect team, and one year with a stacked roster of Haslem, Harvey, Miller, Wright, etc. He’s entirely dependant on his players, and I’d take maybe half a dozen SEC coaches before him on gameday, while on the recruiting trails he’s probably top 3 (with Cal and Slick Rick Stans)
for an Arizona perspective
I still drool about what Miller can do here. In his 5 years at Xavier, I think he had 3 3-star recruits and 1 4-star. And he still made the Great 8 and Sweet 16.
The Pac-10 Freshman of the Year was Derrick Williams (who was an absolute animal) and he wasn’t even rated by Rivals or Scout.com. He didnt even have his picture on their sites. But Miller had been after him since his Sophomore year.
I just get all happy inside when I think about what happens when more talent gets here. Those guys along with the under-rated guys Miller always recruits is going to be dynamite.

Your argument is much better than I mine. I concede. I’m just trying to make myself feel better I guess. Those Walsh, Roberson teams were painful. I like to think Donavon turned a corner with 04’s and started pushing for team play, but I can’t be sure of that till next year (assuming most of our players hang around).
I have a bad feeling that Calathas was the same deal as Walsh and Roberson in terms screwing up our chemistry. Which would be Donavon’s fault. Which would then mean that the ’04s were a fluke.

As a Georgia fan...
I have to thank him for that win in Athens. He had a wide open look to tie it, a shot he had knocked down already that game. It was an easy 16 footer from the corner, and he decides to pass with less than 2 seconds left. Even if he makes a good pass, the chances his teammate had enough time to score weren’t good. That was one of the more chicken shit moves I’ve seen, he was just too scared to take the last shot. Glad he did, but damn I’d have been pissed if I were Donovan or his teammates.
(And in that game, Parsons had one of the sicker alley oops I’ve seen from a white boy. I didn’t realize he could get up like that.)
Take the Werner moment and times it by a hundred. I will never scream anything more than “TAKE THE GOD DAMN SHOT” for the rest of my life.
I had a friend that was on the bus with Werner one day and just openly asked “How many houses have you built?” Werner looks up puzzled. “With all those bricks you’ve been shooting.” He wasn’t happy.

Yeah. An upset is defined by a difference of 3 or more seeding positions. In other words, a 9 team beating an 8 team is not an upset, but a 7 over a 10 is.

You could either go with a blanket 3 pt bonus per upset or you could give bonus points based on the seed difference – ie a 5-12 upset would be worth 7 points.

Duke=Overrated
How did Duke get the 3rd overall #1 over Syracuse? They say it is because Duke won the ACC (which was terrible this year) and the ACC Tournament.
Look at the teams they had to play in the ACC tourney – Virginia, Miami (whom Duke almost lost to), and GT (barely beat). Those 3 games they won in the ACC tournament couldn’t even beat teams like Cincinnati, Providence, or Seton Hall in the Big East.
Yes, Syracuse lost it’s last 2 games but that was to Louisville who will beat Duke in the 2nd round, and Georgetown who also beat Duke. (Syracuse beat Georgetown twice during the regular season).
And how does the committee (Duke lovers) award Duke, they give them the undeserving 3rd overall #1 and the easiest region of all.
I for one cannot wait for Duke to lose and the talk about them to be over. Sorry Duke fans, on a lighter note, GO BRAVES!

I had UTEP beating Butler. So I have no real stake in the game. Might switch over to the Tennessee game in a bit. I at least know who is on Tennessee’s team.
