A Braves Fan in NYC
I just got tickets to see the Braves play the Mets April 23rd at Citi Field. I have seen the Braves play in Washington, Toronto, and Pittsburgh and I am usually decked out in Braves gear and there have never been any problems.
However I am nervous about wearing my Braves jersey and hat at Citi Field because I really don't want to have things thrown at me and I don't want my girlfriend to be harassed because she is with me.
What do you guys think? Are there any bloggers on here that have gone to Citi/Shea with Braves gear on and never had a problem? I don't want to hide my "fan hood" but I don't want to get beat up.
Let me know what y'all think.

April 23rd
The Mets will probably be Mathematically eliminated from the playoffs by then so there should be a general malaise around Citi Field.
I had some family that went to Shea and they were respectful and got the occasional light taunting when the Mets did something good, but unless you’re wearing a John Rocker jersey, you and your lady should be fine.
haha +1

Well, I live in NY, and go to a couple games at Citi/Shea a year, completely decked out in Braves gear. Ive never had a problem. I mean, of coarse there are always Mets fans that will Boo you, or say “Braves suck” as you pass them, but its not that bad. You gotta expect a little ribbing, but you wont be the only guy in Braves gear at a Mets Braves game, i can assure you that. Your not gonna get beat up or mugged or some other NY stereotype.
I thought hurricane season was over........
I wore my McCann jersey twice to Citifield last year, once with my brother and once with my now ex girlfriend, took the train to and from the stadium, and never had a problem. I don’t know if being 6’3" 235 had anything to do with it though.

Worked at a bar in Columbia SC during school...
lived a few blocks away, and would always walk to and from work, no matter the hour. Every now and then, a girl would look astonished, “You walk home after work, alone?” - “Yes, I’m not an attractive young woman. I’m 6’3, 275, and at that hour after a long night of work, I generally have a pretty pissed off look on my face. Chances someone fucks with me is pretty minimal.”

Speaking of games...
What are the best sections of the BoB (don’t know what it’s actually called now) to sit? I’m thinking of taking my wife and baby son on a road trip. It will be his first Braves games.

Its all about where your seats are.
If you’re in the cheap seats there tend to be more young, roudy, drunken roustabouts. Yup, roustabouts. You gotta represent though.
+50 for roustabouts.

From A New York Brave Fan:
when i moved here i heard a bunch of horror stories and thought i might not get to see as many games as i wanted to as well. The first time i went to shea i went with a girl who was a mets fan and i got a little shit, but not as much as she did(whoops). Most of the horror stories i heard were from riding the 7 train to the game, but it couldnt be the opposite there are usually a handful of others also wearing braves gear too, and everybody on the train treats it like any other mta ride and mind themselves. After the first game ive gone with my current girlfriend who I introduced to the Braves, and i have yet to have another thing said, shea or citi field. in my experience going to a dodger game at Chavez was far worse. i think as long as you pay more than 30 bucks for a ticket, which is pretty low for city you will have little to nothing said to you at all.
I have never been to Shea or Citi
but I would have to imagine it pales in comparison to wearing Dodger’s gear in old Candlestick Park or Giant’s gear in Chavez Ravine. There is definitely no love loss between those two fan bases.
I was really unimpressed with both the Dodgers and Angels stadiums last year when I went to both.

agreed
I grew up in Southern California, my family has been Angles’ fans since they expanded, and neither stadium is anything great, Chavez has some unique nosebleeds though, it feels nearly vertical at the top.
dodger fans just hate everybody
ive seen them fight braves fans, mets fans, every game ive been to there has been some kind of scuffle
My old college roommate and I went to the first game at New Yankee Stadium. It was an exhibition against the Cubs. Roommate was decked out in Cubs gear, I was decked out in Braves gear. At first we had some qualms about being the loud a-holes we wanted to be, but everyone around us in the bleachers was there to have a good time and were happy to have road fans to heckle with. Best time I’ve ever had at a ballgame. We gave them shit, they gave it back, we all laughed and it was all in good fun. If yelling “Derek Jeter Sucks!” in the bleachers at Yankee doesn’t illicit any more than witty banter, I can’t imagine Braves gear at Citi would be much of a problem.

Don’t worry about wearing Braves gear at Citi Field Dump. I went to a game last year in my Hanson shirt and a Braves cap. I’m not the biggest guy, and thankfully I didn’t get anything bad. Look, you’re going to most likely get some heckling, its a rivalry and most likely some drunkards. I did get some heckling, but not much. The Mets don’t tolerate people beating other people up- I know for a fact that they’ve kicked people out before. Bottom line, go in all out Braves gear and be proud. I know I’m going in August and I’ll go in my Hanson shirt and cap again.
"Batting second and playing shortstop-he's Cuban. Yeah, his name's Pablo...no, eh, Yunel Escobar, sorry"
Haven't been to Citi yet
but I’ve never had problems at Braves-Mets games in the past representing the gear. I’m always surprised at how many Braves fans I notice at games. The only thing I’ve found weird is when something happens you’re sitting and pissed off while everybody else is cheering, and vice versa.
But obviously, don’t go looking for any trouble. The fewer beers you have, probably the better.
Don't deck out in Philadelphia
I watched Mets fans get bloodied and arrested in Philadelphia, and people were picking fights with me for wearing a Braves hat, and they weren’t even playing.
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.
Don't worry dude. TRUST ME.
I have gone to more met games than I can count over the past 4 years. I am ALWAYS obnoxiously rooting for the opposition. When the Braves are in town I come with Mac Jersey and Braves hat. No Mets fan has ever said shit to me. In fact, CitiField fans are even less passionate than Shea fans. I saw a guy reading a book during a game once, no lie. U have NOTHING to worry about. Just dont fuck with security. I got kicked out for saying the F word to one of them. I went “Okay, heres my fuckin ticket.” He kicked me out… they were 200 seats… fml. But yeah, the fans wont do shit.
