Andy Marte
I wanted to throw this out there. Should the Braves pick up Marte if Cleveland don't give him a spot on the 25 man roster?
He is out of options and he hit .327 BA/.369 OBP/.593 SLG at Triple-A Columbus last year.
Chipper is not getting any younger and Andy is only 26 so he could still have a bright future. I know he has not been able to hit on the majors but I think he might just need something to click and he can be a great player, so if we get him for "free" why not.
So what does the smart people from TC think?

My guess is you could expect about the same reactions this year too.

he still has done nothing at the major league level. To think this guy was supposed to be chippers replacement by now back in 2003 and chipper still hasn’t moved on and marte still hasn’t broken through. Baseball is a funny game.
i guess that's why
it’s never smart to bet against a guy with a career stat line of .307/.406/.541

Don't Know
The Braves do need to get someone to replace him,I just don’t know if he’s the one.Chipper has 3 yrs left I think maybe 2 under contract.I for one love to see minor league prospects come up and do well. Our problem is we don’t have anyone to fit that role right now.Maybe someone play their way into that role this upcoming season or maybe we can get lucky and draft someone in the draft. You’re right though we have to get someone to fill that spot.Hot corner on the Braves is a very good job to have and I would love to see our next prospect in line for the job whether by trade or signing.
If he were to clear waivers and we could get him on a minor league deal, then sure, bring him in and hope that working with the Braves AAA staff again will get him on track.
This.

why not...
who else we got at 3B in Gwinnett, unless we skip Donnell Linares over AA.

Wes Timmons, who’s several years older but probably better at this point. Still, I hope Donnell plays well and get moved up to AAA.

That's my hope as well...
for some reason, I think he’s the man in line if Chipper hangs it up after this year or next.

I’m still hoping that Chipper can play at a good level for another 2-3 years, but yes, Linares and maybe Hicks seem like the best internal options. At least until we know what we have with this Salcedo kid.

Or Sanchez...
why does everyone keep forgetting Sanchez?
And I thought Timmons was more the utlity type. Plus Marte is still kind of young enough to be a “prospect” albeit an older one, and his obp was routinely a good bit higher before he left the organization.

I forget Sanchez because he hasn’t played in the US yet (though neither has Salcedo). But yes, he looks very promising. So does Jake Hanson. Things aren’t as terrible as some folks make them out to be.

What's your take on Hanson?...
looking at his minor league #s, the hitting doesn’t really jump out as special, and the fielding looks atrocious. I’m not sure why the hype there.
Well, he hit pretty well in his second go round in the GCL and he’s still only 20, so if he goes to Rome he’s right on track age wise. The fielding is just what happens with 19 year old kids playing pro ball; if it’s still a problem in AA then it’s time to be overly concerned. I guess I’d like to see what he can do this year; I’d especially like to see him beat out Jordan Kreke and have the 3B job at Rome.

uhhh, maybe
Technically, Frank Wren made the deal — I believe it was like day 3 of him being GM — but most people believed that good ole JS set the deal up in the regular season. The only problem was that the Tigers couldn’t afford to take on Renteria’s contract during the season, thus making both sides wait until the offseason.

Nah...
The guy is a AAAA player. And if it turns out the he’s not, then its not up to the Braves to figure that out. We got as much out of him as we could, so just let the guy go. I can’t complain about getting 2 career years out of Edgar Renteria and a trade for Jurrjens from some AAAA dude, thanks.

Not a bad thought, but he's a AAAA player.
I think the Indians should sell him to Japan. Those AAAA guys always turn into studs over there.
