MRI Results are in for Braves Starter Jair Jurrjens

Excellent news for Braves fans after the scare two days ago of the news that rotation stalwart Jair Jurrjens was heading to Atlanta for an MRI on his shoulder. Mark Bowman reports that the news is good:

Count Jair Jurrjens among the many members of the Braves family who gained a sense of relief on Wednesday morning, when MRI results showed that he isn't dealing with any structural damage in his right shoulder.

He goes on to say that he should begin throwing again in a few days, meaning he won't be too far behind in his spring preparation, and should be ready for the start of the season.

Huge relief! I don't know that I can tolerate another scare like this... there are just too many expectations placed upon this season for us to incur the loss of any major player this early. Nothing but positive thoughts for the remainder of the day!

[UPDATE 12:15]

Here is the official press release with loads of information:

The Atlanta Braves this morning received the results of yesterday's MRI test on pitcher Jair Jurrjens' right shoulder. The results confirmed that Jurrjens has anterior shoulder inflammation and that the overall structure of the shoulder and labrum looked normal.

Braves Lead Orthopedist Dr. Xavier Duralde has prescribed rest and treatment for the shoulder for the remainder of this week, followed by a throwing program to begin next week.

Last week, while working out at his home in Curacao, Jurrjens made an awkward throw from second base which caused some tenderness in his shoulder that did not subside. After arriving in Florida for spring training, Jurrjens met with Braves trainers and was sent to Atlanta to have the MRI test.

Steady as she goes...

Beat ya by 6 minutes!

Shouldn't Reid Gorecki get a shot in RF before that Heyward kid everybody talks about?

How did you both scoop me? O’Brien’s tweet had been up for like 10 seconds when I did the fanshot.

Here are Pujols's stats: 1.000/1.000/4.000/5.000. That's right. He is batting a thousand, with a thousand OBP (naturally), and every hit has been a home run, and thus his OPS is a perfect 5.000.

So wait,...

we don’t need to put Heyward on the trading block for a starter, or offer Smoltz 1 yr @ $8m?

No!

Use the money to make a last ditch offer to Johnny Damon!

Huzzah!

Now let’s just be careful with him this year. Give him an extra day’s rest if he needs it, etc. It won’t hurt to have Medlen make a few starts here and there. I’m sure Hanson and the others won’t mind an extra day’s rest every now and then, either.

My prayers have been answered

I told you all to pray – now I don’t know how many of you all did – but our prayers have been answered. Losing JJ would have been a tremendous blow to our club as our rotation is what makes us a legitimate Wild Card contender.

Means Nothing...

This is typical, then pitcher pitches decent for 5 games, then pain comes back, then 2nd MRI shows damage and BAM its surgery time. Think about how many scans are negative in the early stage, Soriano anyone?

Yeah, I want a dye-injected MRI before I believe he’s okay.

Those cases stand out because they were disastrous, how many cases actually turned out to be nothing? I mean, 1st week of throwing session discomfort is not unheard of.

I thought hurricane season was over........

Great news...

Braves fans and members of the press have been concerned about him for this very reason for longer than one year, though. Does anyone really think that this scare will affect how he is used in the rotation?

Hopefully we’ll become re-aquainted with that graphic about 90 -100 times this season.

Infield drills or long toss, maybe.

It happened during pitcher fielding drills so

I suspect that it was supposed to say an “awkward throw to second base”.

Thank Goodness! I was really worried terror-stricken when I heard Jurrjens was undergoing an MRI, glad to breathe a sigh of relief!

With Javy gone I think we need 25 starts out of Jair, Tommy, Hudson, and Lowe. This scared the shit out of me.
