Portland Braves Fan In Town For The Weekend
Portland, Oregon based Braves fan in Atlanta for the weekend and early part of next week. I've been buying Braves stuff off of eBay for too many years. Anyone know anywhere to get some good, cheap priced ATL sports gear? I could be convinced to pick up a variety of gear from the sports melting pot of Atlanta (except the Hawks -- strong, struggling Blazer fan here). Hats and shirts are preferred. We're staying up near Roswell but will be cutting over to Athens on Monday night and down to the airport on Wednesday.

Can’t really help you out, but I just wanted to say that Portland is a great town, even if they are about to lose their AAA team.

I heard they might be coming to Tucson, which I would absolutely love. After the DBacks AAA team left a few years ago, we have no baseball in the entire city.

Seriously?
I really wanted to see the Beavers out in Portland, but cross-country traveling is difficult for standbys.

Depends
Good = MSRP
Cheap = Likely knockoff
The “official” Braves store is in the CNN center, and has the best variety of things you could possible want. Otherwise, check the vast varieties of Hibbett Sports and Academy Sports Stores. Up in Roswell, you’re kind of limited, but if you venture into the city (read: “urban” areas) the Highlands, East Atlanta, you could probably stumble upon some sports stores that sell cheaper stuff, but they’re probably knockoffs, no matter how authentic the sewn on Majestic/Official MLB tags you might find on them.
The good thing about being in the local market is the fact that you can go into chain retailers like Walmarts, Targets or department stores like Macys and find Braves gear – whether or not they’re “official” NewEra hats or Majestic shirts is to be determined, but your variety is much better in the area than out of it.

don't know about downtown, sorry, but.....
It’s a pretty good drive from downtown, but the Vanity Fair outlet in Calhoun, Ga is always LOADED with Braves stuff. Don’t know why it’s so cheap, but it seems to be first quality, and the inventory is always changing, but we’ve picked up some really good stuff there for very reasonable prices. This winter’s super-find so far has been the Majestic therma-base dugout jackets (adults only, no kids) for under $50. They are MLB branded and tagged with the hologram stickers, so I’m pretty sure they are not knockoffs. Don’t know about the other Vanity Fair outlets, I think there are others around the state.
Means nothing
They are MLB branded and tagged with the hologram stickers, so I’m pretty sure they are not knockoffs.
Majestic patches can be sewn on, and Authentic MLB merchandise tags can be applied to anything. If it’s suspiciously cheap, then it’s probably a knock off. But as long as you’re happy with the quality of the product, does it really matter?*
*before someone goes off about how purchasing genuine MLB products benefits the team and baseball as a whole

actually.......
Vanity Fair is a national manufacturer that actually OWNS Majestic Athleticwear and some other high profile brand names (Chase Authentics, Lee, Wrangler, etc). I suspect they are more likely some items that for whatever reason didn’t pass QA somewhere along the way and they are just offering them in their outlet retail stores. They have no visable flaws and are very high quality, and have the original prices and tags on them, VF just marks everything down and sometimes has special clearance racks where you can find really nice stuff for very reasonable prices. They are also a good source for NASCAR racing clothing and Chase Authentic brand products along with regional collegiate sports teams (like ours has LOTS of UGA and GT and UTenn stuff). In this case it’s the real deal, for what it’s worth. :-)
Hey, sorry if that last post came off the wrong way. I was just trying to share an option for some folks who might like a chance to get some nice stuff while staying on a reasonable budget.
It's all good
That’s my cynicism showing, since I’ve seen my share of bootlegs and knockoffs out there. Not that there’s anything wrong with them since “official” merchandise seems a little egregiously priced to begin with, but as I mentioned above, all that really matters is if you, the consumer are happy with what you’ve purchased. I’m pretty sure my away jersey is a knockoff, because the stitching seems a little shoddy, especially after being washed, but hey, it still looks like the real thing.
As for why things show up at outlet malls, an old marketing teacher mentioned that usually, 80% of the stuff is flawed in a not necessarily unsellable way, but tiny things that make them fail inspection for mainstream retail. Like take for example, every outlet mall seems to have a Nautica or Hilfiger store – basically, the jeans they will sell will be cheaper than the regular malls because sometimes their size 38 jeans are closer to a 36, or the shirt has a right sleeve that’s a quarter inch shorter than others. It’s little things like that, imperfections that don’t make them unusable, but prohibited from selling at full price.
