I know that times are tough for local newspapers...
... but letting Scott Boras run your sports section is not the right move, AJC.

You're right
I checked my Twitter subs this morning and remembered I had unfollowed DOB about a week ago. I got a little tired of 1) Damon all day, 2) his unending music posts, 3) incessant bitching about having to travel as part of his job.
My bad.
Still not going to follow him until the regular season starts though. DOB should have a separate, personal Twitter for all the non-Braves stuff.
O’Brien broke the news…i got his tweet at least an hour to two hours before Bowman’s every media orgainzation around credits AJC with breaking the story and DOB was right. Don’t wine because its the biggest baseball story/rumor of the day and the hundreds (of Braves fans) that post on DOB’s beat blog are excited. I read many of things one this site that were 1000 times more senseless and boring. It’s my first time posting….because i couldn’t take it anymore with some of the stuff that is said on this site!

Uh

I must have missed the part where I w(h)ined (sic) about anything on the blog. I simply, incorrectly I might add, took issue with an excerpt from a totally different AJC article altogether.
And the beat goes on....
Every poster on those AJC blogs seem to have a love fest going on with Damon. I am not implying he has no value to a team but he isn’t the end all/be all for the Braves’ season they are trying to make him out to be.
They just love him cause they saw him on MTV cribs…
I mean one guy suggested we offer him two years, and then said “Hayward will be ready by then” <<How can you mispell Heyward’s last name???

I am beginning to question DOB's motives here...
Does he have an Unhealthy Man Crush…is it the long flowing locks…the Geico caveman brow?
Listen if the guy comes on the “REAL CHEAP”….i am talking under $4MM a year…..then I’ll embrace it….as long as they give Heyward a legit shot in spring as they’ve said all along.
That said, I don’t think he’s worth the tunnel vision of our beat writer, so much that it’s a recurring story 2x a week…“just sayin”, DOB…if it happens, it happens….then it’s news.
Did you read the poll answers? They were worded very poorly.
“Would you sign Johnny Damon?”
“Yes, the Braves need a leadoff hitter.”
“No, McLouth will be fine.”
haha wow that is skewed
and then he uses the poll results to show that Braves fans want Damon? Lame.

Wait
Wouldn’t Johnny Damon be our best offensive outfielder (besides Diaz against lefties and potentially J Hey)? The last two seasons he has been worth 3.6 and 3 wins (above replacement) respectively. So if the Braves pay him anywhere from 5-7 million for this year, we should be getting significant value. Having said that, he should take Melky’s spot, not Heyward’s.
Maybe
The AJC writers for some reason do want Damon, but so does Frank Wren.
Jurjjens
Can’t help but feel that Wren and Co maybe doing this to soften Boras for the upcoming Jurjjens negotiations.
That may be a valid point, but I was under the impression Boras and Wren already had a good working relationship… Plus Boras doesn’t care who he’s dealing with the price tag will still be the same…

Screw Boras
I’d hate to lose JJ, but I would just flat out refuse to do business with Boras. Some agents are bad for the game, but his guy is absolute murder! His ego is hurting the players as well. His Jedi mind tricks make them see nothing but dancing $$ signs that sometimes do not exist. Especially in this economy.

Damon/McLouth/Heyward
Thats a hell of an outfield…on 680 today…Buck and Kincade were talking how hands down Damon would make this team better…and a move of Cabrera or Diaz would follow…but if the Braves only offered $2 million now and $2 m deferred…i don’t see Damon taking that at all…

Excuse my ignorance...
But what is deferred money? Is it incentive based?

heyward has had just over 170 at bats above A ball. Tossing aside the hype, I can’t tell you all of the reasons it’s unwise to start him in the atlanta outfield this season. How many cautionary tales do you have to see before you realize that that’s not the right way to handle a prospect. From the outfield alone, I can think of frenchy, maybin, bruce, and upton, all of whom were underdeveloped when they hit the majors. Heyward could be a beast, middle of the order bat, or he could be a struggling rookie, crushed under the pressure, eventually costing us more money for being stupid and not signing damon and giving heyward some AAA time. Worst case scenario, damon provides decent production alongside diaz and mclouth until heyward proves he’s ready and then they shift into a damon/diaz platoon with heyward in right.
How many cautionary tells can you give me
To demonstrate how you can “ruin” a prospect by promoting him early?
Can hear it now
S. Boras quote:
“I am the best and most complete sports writer/editor in all of MLB” ATL is truly lucky to have a guy like me in the Journal Constitution.
Oh yeah I am the great and powerful OZ as well ~ OMFG come on AJC give me a break.
