Royals Close To Signing Jeff Francoeur

Photo

As sure as the sun sets, the most inevitable move in Major League baseball (history) is about to happen -- The Royals and Dayton Moore are going to sign Jeff Francoeur. Ken Rosenthal reports that the two sides are nearing a one-year deal with a possible club option year. The Royals and Francoeur, made for each other. Kansas City already has five former Braves on its roster, plus former Braves coaches Glenn Hubbard, Chino Cadahia, and Manager Ned Yost.

I really hesitated to put up a story about this, seeing as how we should thoroughly be over Francoeur by now, but I still slow down to gawk at every car wreck I see, so why not this one.

As one who is a recent, but loyal Braves fan, I don’t understand the reasoning behind the Francoeur comments…is it his because he let down the fans by leaving, that he refused to make adjustments to his game in order to succeed? Is it because he is a Georgia boy who left?
Seriously, let me know…

Thanks

by TomahawkGuy on Dec 8, 2010 12:15 PM EST reply actions

He didnt leave

We got rid of him after watching him crap his pants for a full year. He pretty much refused to make adjustments and when the team decided to send him to the minors to work on things, he pouted like a baby.

Im just glad his ego was too big to let him sign the contract the Braves offered to buy out his arb years.

by Doghnut on Dec 8, 2010 12:17 PM EST up reply actions

It's because...

His approach to hitting is all wrong and he refuses to acknowledge it as such. He simultaneously pulls his ego into the mix, insisting that he’s a full-time player when he’s anything but at this point.

It’s rough to sit through these games and not have someone that can’t hit a Ball?

by cthabeerman on Dec 8, 2010 12:17 PM EST up reply actions

He didn't get a say in leaving...

so you can’t fault him for that. I would say a lot of it is his inability to adjust his hitting approach, his terrible attitude when he was demoted to AA (which was short-lived because of injuries) to fix his swing. Other teams are taking a chance on what we tried to fix for 3 years after his rookie year…

by TBuzz on Dec 8, 2010 12:19 PM EST up reply actions

He didn't leave. He was traded. His attitude sucked, and I can only speak for myself, but

I was done with him when he turned down that contract and acted like he was above the team when he complained about being sent to the minors.

by Erin6 on Dec 8, 2010 12:20 PM EST up reply actions

I really wish he had worked out, but he was far, far, far from that. The way he handled being sent to work on his hitting was nothing short of BS. For MLB money, you do what the team asks, period.

Rosenthal...

Also reporting that the Yanks are in a face-to-face meeting with Crawford today.

He mentions they could ink both Crawford AND Cliff Lee, if they either trade an OF and/or Pettite retires.

If this happens…. could Gardner become available? Or is that simply wishful thinking on my part? Obviously he’s super cheap…

by TonyAlmeyda on Dec 8, 2010 12:57 PM EST up reply actions

Could be...

But there are also 28 other teams in the league that would be falling over themselves to get Gardner.

We probably have as much to offer them as anyone else, but I doubt we offer as much as everyone else to get him…and I’m okay with that.

If the price is right (which will still likely be higher than value), then we make the move. If not, we move on. That’s the advantage of having your team set by early December.

ill tell you what though

if he could have kept it up, a prime francoeur and a prime heyward in the corners of our outfield would have been insane. an ‘06-’07 frenchy and a ’11—> heyward would be nuts..

AND if Schaffer didnt break his wrist! we would have won the world series last year..

that could have been the best defensive and best offensive outfield in baseball.. damnit! haha we had one of the worst!

And if Escobar could have kept his shit together!

add Prado, Freeman, McSupermann, and a healthy chipper…

Just goes to show ya…I am not sure what haha, but damnit!

damnit! here's my "if shit went right" '11 lineup

schaffer (20 homers 20 SB)
Prado (18 hr 370 obp—what i would have expected last year w no injuries to him or chipper)
Chipper (i better not, but lemme say at least 380+OBP)
Heyward (30 hr 100 rbi .400 obp 27 WAR)
Francoeur (if he became the 30 homer hitter he should have been! 100 RBI guy)
Mccann (25 HR, we know McCann)
Escobar (’09 escobar preferrably)
Freeman (gonna be good)

I think this is good for Frenchy and good for baseball

Frenchy will get regular ABs in a low-pressure environment for one year. If his 2011 numbers are good, he will have revived his career. If his 2011 numbers suck, the Royals will can him as one of their OF prospects will be ready, and Frenchy will forever be a 4th OF and we won’t have to deal with his egotistical rants ever again.

Frenchy - Royals a Match made in Heaven UMMM NOOOOOOOOOOTTTTTTTTTTTT !

ShOCKING LOL is all I have to say another washed up Brave joining D. Moore in K.C. including our former coaches. Personally I wish Hubbard would have stayed and T.P. would have been released from ATL coaching staff but with Fredi Gonzo the new coach and T.P. and him being friends that was not going to happen and couple with that lackluster play of ATL defense in the postseason this past season well Hubbard was definately on the chopping block.

Attention Frenchy is at the plate rest of the MLB , breaking balls out and away strike one/two/three your out or a weak ground – pop up LOL.
