Atlanta Braves Fan Confidence Poll
Every other Monday this off-season Talking Chop presents the Atlanta Braves fan confidence poll. This poll and therefore your confidence level should encompasses several areas of the team. These areas include, but are not limited to, the team’s ownership, current management, talent, minor-league system, general playing ability on the field, and of course during the off-season, how our off-season is going. The poll will stay open for 48 hours, and then the results will be posted and graphed against the previous weeks.

just out of curiousity
I’m wondering who are the people and why are they voting for things like 10 and 1, 2, etc.
No Johnny Damon, and no Pujols...
until we add both, I will continue to vote 1.

Trolls for the 1, 2, and 3 votes
and I guess we have a few readers who are just really confident in our team’s ability.

You sir are an idiot if it takes a Damon or Pujols to give this team a decent score.
I put 7. Uggla is a great addition. Even better if we can lock him for 3 yrs. I would actually vote a 7.8. We still have other needs that need to be addressed, so I still believe it’s too early to give it an 8.

It’s rough to sit through these games and not have someone that can’t hit a Ball?

Uggla for Infante and Dunn was another trade highway robbery by the Braves. There’s not much work left for Wren to do other than re-sign Hinske and show KK the door.
for us, that trade equals an 8.
I do not see us making a bigger “Splash” than that. I bet you will see us try to find some “veteren” talent…just another word for cheap… to fill in our other problems.
The upside of this is we did not sell the farm to get him (Ug) and since we tend to only fix one problem an offseason….I hold with my orignal thought…we be done!
it just felt right and the chance to go to the postseason is hard to pass up. I’ve always respected their orginization… and Bobby…I’m excited. I’m looking forward to it...Derrek Lee (at press conference sayiing he had been traded to the Braves)

I'd be curious to talk to the dozen people
Who voted “0” just out of pure curiosity.

Especially when "0" isn't even an option!
I have an inferiority complex, but it's not a very good one.
D'oh. Meant to put "1". My bad.
Either way, I’d love to hear their thoughts on how the Uggla trade is destroying the organization.

9.5
Uggla for Infante/Dunn. Freddie Freeman ready to take over at 1B. J-Hey ready to be an all-star OF in the National League for the next 10-15 years. Hanson, Jurrjens, Minor, Medlen in 2012, Teheran, Delgado, and Vizcaino as your SPs. Kimbrel, Venters, and a host of C and above prospects for relievers.
This organization is in incredible shape. Short of a stolen base threat and a solid LF and 3B answer the Braves are in fantastic shape and damn near worthy of a 10.

Wren=10
With the Uggla aquisition, and up comming F/A R/P signing, along with a bat for LF, (via trade or F/A) plus the strenght of our Minor League, gives me all the cofidence of a ten. When Wren stated he was through with more deals I believe this to be his chess move to deter other GM’s from making early signings of possible F/As or comsumating trade deals of potential targets he has designated as possible aquisitions for the Braves.

Will go to a 9 if Wren signs one more good bat or good speed guy.
Ellsbury would push me to a 9.
60% of the time, it works every time
I voted 7
Won’t feel comfortable going much higher than that until our bullpen needs are addressed. Wren still has plenty of time to get that done.

Assuming Wren offers arbitration to Moylan and O’Flaherty, what bullpen needs did you have in mind? The Braves have plenty of in house options for the annual 12th pitcher who sucks badly and isn’t on the roster by June. Kimbrel and Venters should have the 8th and 9th locked down.
What's Moylan signing for?...
Can we get him for $2m or less? Can we get a Putz, Wood, Rauch, etc for the same price? if so, I’d rather have a Wood or Putz.

I just think the Braves need an established reliever or two to go along with what we already have. As much as I love Venters and Kimbrel, I worry that Venters won’t be able to repeat what he did last season, and Kimbrel still has some unresolved control issues he needs to work through still. I like EOF, but he’s nothing more than a LOOGY.
I just don’t see near the bullpen depth or talent that we had in 2010. On the one hand, if everything works right, we could once again have a very good bullpen next year; on the other hand, if just a couple of things go wrong, we could have a shaky pen problem. It would be nice if we could pick up another Billy Wagner to go along with what we already have.

centerfielder
it would be great to see the braves go after a right handed hitting centerfield . As i have been saying for 2 years were missing an Otis Nixon type leadoff hitter . Soon as Otis would get on the pitchers were worried and were thrown off . He wasa good slap hitter not the greatest but a good 1 and a good bunter . Braves dont have a speedster who strikes fear in the opposing pitchers .
How many Otis Nixon type players are there in the Major Leagues right now?
I wrote a novel, it's about baseball, you should buy it:

There are a few guys like Otis around.
They just all have way more power than he ever had.
Ichiro
Reyes
Crawford
However, I don’t think anyone compares with Otis on the amount of ugly that he brought to the diamond everyday
The Braves don't need a pure speed threat...
with all the walks they get as a team. Our offensive futility last year was directly tied to our BA w/RISP. When Glaus, BMac, and Hinske were hitting them in during May and June…we were damn near unstoppable.
I don’t think any of those guys are like Otis Nixon, to be honest. Maybe Ichiro, but he has been a hit machine against all types of pitchers and plays defense as good as any RF in our generation. The Braves are certainly not getting any of those guys.
And Otis Nixon-type player who recently retired was Dave Roberts. Nyjer Morgan might be another, if his boxing career doesn’t pan out.
So there’s my point. There are three guys like that in all of baseball. So saying the Braves are missing a guy like that is ridiculous, because almost every team in baseball is missing a guy like that.

All i know is the braves are gonna be terrible. i am and always be a die hard fan but we have NOO young talents and our vets just dont cut it. Im gonna have to go with a 1 or 2. We all have to come to the realization that chipper is washed up and we dont have maddux or cox here to save our butts anymore. This is gonna be a rough 10 year stretch. We need some new management!
