Bobby Sets the Rotation
sort of..

Cox said rotation will be Lowe, Hanson, Hudson and either Lowe on 3 days rest or Beachy
a little surprised with the flipping of Hanson and Hudson, but it makes sense. It gives the Giants a different look since Huddy and Lowe are similar guys, plus pitching on the road might help Hanson with some nerves - especially depending on how the series stands at that point. plus Hudson getting a little more rest now will be good.
also this about JJ

Jurrjens will not pitch this series. He's at the Braves complex in Florida, working out. Will see if they need him if Braves make NLCS

Would Beachy go in game 4 if we have a 2-1 lead and Lowe, if we are down 2-1.? That would leave Lowe for game 5 if Beachy can’t win game 4 and Hanson for game 5 if Lowe wins game 4. That makes sense and Hanson would have 4 days rest, with the 2 travel days.
Still go Lowe on short rest...
a) close out when you can
b) it sets up better for round 2 (hudson/hanson, then Lowe and JJ or Beachy)

I’m surprised he’s going with Cyborg in game 2 versus Huddy on regular rest. Well, this gives Huddy another couple days to recuperate from some short rest at the end of the season. Plus, if we can steal a game in San Fran, we’ve got our #1 going at home to get a shot at putting the Midgets on the brink of elimination.

This gives Hanson full rest for a possible game 5. Maybe Bobby wants Huddy to have the extra rest. Of course if Beachy pitches game 4, you then have Lowe and Hanson ready for #5.
That’s a good point, because Hudson hasn’t pitched this many innings since 2007. Lowe is probably the Braves’ most durable pitcher and the guy they would be most likely to use on short rest. Lowe could go on short rest in game 4, Hanson would pitch games 2 and 5 on regular rest and Hudson would pitch game 3 on regular rest. The more I think about this, it’s a no brainer.
No complaints
In April, if I was told Derek Lowe would start game 1 of NLDS, I would have rolled my eyes. But, as it turns out, he’s actually the Braves best pitcher right now. Wren would look like a genius for keeping Lowe and dealing Vazquez were it not for the fact the Braves got Melky in the deal.
Hanson in game 2 makes perfect sense, because Lowe and Hudson are so similar. Plus, he’s been as good as Hudson anyway. 2010 xFIP: Lowe – 3.65, Hanson – 4.04, Hudson – 3.87. Not much difference.
Did I miss something?
Is Minor injured? Why would Cox go with Beachy over Minor? I think that I remember reading something about Minor possibly being winded after such a long, arduous season, but he’s had plenty of rest by now. Is it that Beachy just has better stuff?
What is both surprising and delightful is that spectators are allowed, and even expected, to join in the vocal part of the game.... There is no reason why the field should not try to put the batsman off his stroke at the critical moment by neatly timed disparagements of his wife's fidelity and his mother's respectability. ~George Bernard Shaw
I think Minor is more than a little winded. College pitchers have short seasons, so a pitcher’s first professional season is always a long for them. And Minor’s season was actually extended by a month. Continuing to pitch him would be endangering his future health, even if he was still performing well, which he isn’t.
I agree he is a better pitcher than Beachy. I like Beachy, but I have really high hopes for Minor in the future. Just not this year.
Yeah...
I would say Minor is at or past his innings limit for the year.

Well then.
Thanks everyone for clearing that up for me. Now that I’ve had time to think about it, it probably doesn’t make much difference either way. If we have to play a Game 4 and it comes down to either Lowe on short rest or Beachy, you almost have to give the durable veteran the nod over the rookie. I can’t help but love the grit that Beachy showed in September after getting called up and tossed into the heat of a pennant chase…but at this point I think Lowe trumps Beachy or even a Minor that’s good to go.

This was pointed out to you in the other thread. Why you’re rehashing this is anybody’s guess.

Well, just so you don't have to guess...
I missed it in the other thread. Thankfully there are folks on this blog who have a kinder disposition than you. Does that clear it up for you?

So...
I get to see either DLowe or Beachy.

As a pitcher, no he is not. As an option for the NLDS, yes he is.

We will have to wait a few years before proving this.

Because that small sample size is really a good measure to judge with....
I really hope you are not seriously posing this argument. Draft position, scouting rankings, Minor’s team USA dominance and strong early season success, but then Beachy’s been pretty damn strong too. I’m pretty sure drum has the correct answer here. The better major league pitcher between Minor and Beachy is still to be determined.
You even try to argue when we agree.

I like it but
WHAT THE HELL IS BOBBY DOING? HE SUCKS. THERE IS NO WAY WE CAN MAKE THE PLAYOFFS WITH HIM MANAGING. I’M GLAD HE IS DONE AFTER THIS YEAR.
Was this sarcastic?

i'm not sure i agree with hanson-hudson in that order
despite the fact that he obviously is way more of a ground-ball pitcher than hanson is hudson has struggled with the longball lately, and AT&T is more of a pitcher-friendly park than turner. it might be nitpicking, but i would rather start hudson in the more favorable ballpark especially when you consider that he been on the road in the playoffs before. might be better for hanson to get his feet wet at home with the crowd behind him.
except for the fact
That Hudson has pitched much worse on the road this year than he has at home.
by drumzalicious on Oct 5, 2010 4:34 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions
I think the reason is simple.
Hanson has been pitching better recently. And if Lowe goes on short rest, it means that Hanson pitches game five instead of Hudson. Furthermore, Hanson is the guy more likely to give up the longball than Hudson given his style of pitching. If Huddy is leaving his pitches up, it will be a long night in either park.
Beachy is ready, he knows no difference. He’s thrown to the NLs best, at home and on road, in front of 50,000. Minor is fatigued. I saw him at 96 this summer in AA. He is 89-91 now.
