AFL scouting link
Hey just read some input about our (and some of our competitors) players on the Phoenix desert dogs team....
"Cory Gearrin was the first out of the pen for Phoenix, and he’s funky enough to stumble into Major League success. A true sidearmer, Gearrin has a plus frisbee slider that should be enough to get big league right-handed hitters out. But he needs better command with his 85-88 mph fastball than he showed today."
The total link;

It was written by a Bryan Smith who seems creditable in my book for an earlier blog that reasoned why do teams project a #5 starter when to him there is never a true #5 but a "fill-in the blank starter....hmmmm
enjoy!

2nd Baseman
I read the Braves are very high on the 2B we got from Toronto.I looked up some of his stats and he has some pretty good numbers.Don’t know how his power is but he seems to be a good baserunner, which we need badly.
Tyler Pastornicky
We project him to SS. Average to maybe slightly below hit tool, below average power; Above Average Arm, Average to Above in both D and Speed. The hope is that his patience can buoy his on base ability to overcome his hit tool and that, with his speed, should be enough of an offensive weapon that can be a serviceable SS in the bigs when Gonzalez is done. There are some doubters and some believers… can’t say that the believers outweigh the doubters here though.
Actually
Jayson Grey (whose analysis is fantasy focused) talked about how he may be a solid contributor. SS is extremely shallow offensively, and the defense is plus. He ranks him a solid 70 on the 20-80 scale for speed.

Actually I'm in the camp that thinks he will hit
… at least some (in the .270-280 area as an average through his peak) which would work quite nicely with his speed & D. I just feel that I’m in the minority with that opinion.
I think he might do well.
I’m cautiously optimistic however, I expect more of a .250-.260 hitter with speed and D, which is about fairly avg for todays MLB SS.
"Give him the heater Ricky."
Smith, however, suggested...
…that he was probably not going to stick at SS and would end up at 2B. Of course, that was just from one bad day in the field, so who knows?
It was a shame that he had nothing to say about Harrilchak.
