This Week At Talking Chop
Every week this off-season at Talking Chop we'll be reviewing the season one position at a time. Like last year, this position by position review will start with the Major League guys and then shift to the minor league prospects.
Last year we started with Catcher and went around the infield, this year we're going to mix things up a bit and start with the outfield -- the area of the team that needs to most improvement. Here is the schedule for this week:
Tuesday: Nate McLouth
Wednesday: Jason Heyward
Thursday: Rick Ankiel, Melky Cabrera, Matt Diaz
Friday: Braves Top-10 Minor League Outfield Prospects
Saturday: Around the NL East - Focus On The Outfields Of The NL East
Sunday: Weekly Wrap
Of course if any other news comes up we will interrupt our regularly scheduled programming to bring you that story. Check back every day for new content that you can comment on.

Sounds Great!
hey Gondeee, sounds wonderful. and i’m looking forward to the breakdown. I’m getting excited for next year, and to learn a little more about some of the young players who migh have a chance to be brought up.
Just wondering, do we have any speedy base thiefs down in the minors who are looking like they might be ready to being called up? I would love a player who can change the game, and move himself in scoring postion on his own. obviously, an extra run here and there, with our pitchers, would have meant a lot. (and sorry if you have already addressed this, or you can tell me just to hold my horses and wait till the corresponding date, when basestealingology will be in session)
Thanks man,
Well, you might be let down. There isn’t really a lot of game changing speed in the Braves system. The fastest player is Kyle Rose, and he had an injury filled year at Low A Rome. He also got caught stealing a lot. He’s got a lot of work to do with his contact and on base skills, but he’s a real athlete and fun to watch. Some of the next best guys with speed are Tyler Pastornicky and Mycal Jones, both shortstops. Pastonicky is a bit faster and both have promise. Jones especially could turn into an Orlando Hudson type player. Cory Harrilchak has a bit of speed, but it’s not game-changing. Matt Lipka, this year’s supplemental first round pick, shows a lot of promise as a leadoff hitter with speed. It might not be top of the league speed, but he’s got some hustle. So there are some names, but nobody, except for Rose, that fits the mold of a classic speedster.
I wrote a novel, it's about baseball, you should buy it:

I had read when signed Lipka had "80" speed...
have you seen differently?
http://sportsandgrits.blogspot.com/
You might be dead on with that. 21 steals in 52 games, with only 3 CS, is some legit speed. He just doesn’t look fast. His body type has really given me a mixed signal on him. He looks like Ryan Zimmerman, both in the face and body type, just shrunk down from 6’5" to 6’1". I’m not saying anything bad about him, I definitely love his potential as a player, but seeing him in person he was definitely different than what I had expected.

I should also clarify, he doesn’t look fast…standing still. He was actually pretty speedy, and definitely was running hard, when I did see him running.

Sounds similar to Chase Utley.

I don’t think he’s gonna have anywhere near that kind of pop. But yeah, he might have a similar body, but Lipka is also faster.

Oh no…I certainly wasn’t comparing Lipka’s hitting to Utley’s. If Lipka even becomes Chase Utley-light I’d be ecstatic. I was just saying that Utley doesn’t look fast at all, but always gets you 15-20 steals and goes 1st to 3rd with the best of ’em.

Thank you sir
Thanks, Man.
I’ll keep those names in the back of my mind and look out for those guys. I’ve always liked guys who can single-handedly (i think that’s a word) change the game by stealing whenever they want. So, i’ll see what the future has for these BRAVE Burners.

Nate Mclouth - Tuesday
We need two seperate evaluations of Nate: Before his Minor League stint and after.
Maybe it’ just me but he seemed better after his recall…..I noticed everyone in the Braves Dugout didn’t take cover everytime he batted later in the year.
There wasn’t really much difference, he had a good week or two after the stint, but he quickly went back to sucking.

Little help!!
OK folks…this might not be the venue for this, but I have a question. How do you unsubscribe from a blog like this? I’m trying to find the place to discontinue it, but um, not so much.
It’s not TC, so don’t worry…LOL

…on Braves.com, DOB, Bowman, twitter, MLB Trade Rumors, ESPN, SI, or Yahoo Sports.

McLouth's
Recap is easy… He got engaged and his game went south… Same thing happened to Frenchy… It’s a proven scientific fact that women hurt your game

Would it be annoying if I continually post about Andrus and the Teixeira trade?
Morgan: Do you think I could come into the clubhouse after the game and display my ass for both those veterans and the younger guys?
Baker: Well, Joe, you are on the payroll of the team, and you're a legend, so I suppose — holy shit!
[Joe has appeared next to Dusty, in the dugout, completely naked]
Morgan: Hey.
Yes. Yes. Yes.
