but we’re hurting right now. Especially since we didn’t want to see the end of Bobby’s career come so soon. It will be weird not seeing him again, but we will always remember the man he was, which was highlighted tonight when Derek wanted to stay and Bobby let him. Bobby probably thought it was a mistake but that is the way Bobby is, a man who believes in his players. If no one here can see why that made him a great manager, then I personally don’t think you’re a fan of the Braves.

To take offense at the fact that the Braves have made the postseason 15 of the last 20 years just shows your age and your lack of understanding of how difficult it is to get into the playoffs and how much of a crapshoot the playoffs are. Any team can win a best of 5/best of 7 series. Hell, even the Royals and Pirates will take on occasional series from a top team.

I’d love to see several, but I also don’t anticipate much.

Think about it, the pitching staff is set.
1b, 2b, 3b will not see any changes unless Chipper decides he can’t make it (not happening).
RF is taken.
SS could change, but I doubt it with the cheap option (not arguing whether it’s a good idea, but the Braves I think will probably pick up his option.
And the bullpen might see a veteran or two signed, but otherwise is probably set.

Only LF and CF are likely to see any real change, unless we unload a SP (which I believe we would do if Medlen was healthy) (I don’t include KK there since he won’t be much loss and won’t net much in return).

We only have one really glaring hole at 3rd (if Chipper calls it)! I thought it was great, and way above expectations.

They won’t get a 1b with Freeman there unless he stinks in AFL.

I still think they honestly will pickup AGonz’s option. Right or wrong, I think they’ll do it for 2.5 mil. Shoot, even if they want to replace him I’d pick up his option.

And honestly

I wouldn’t mind hanging on the Lee for one more year

I love the idea of having him, but I don’t think he wants to be a backup, and generally if Freeman does anything in the AFL and in Spring, they’ll be wanting to get him lots of ABs.

I wish Lee could play 3b or something.

by The Goche on Oct 11, 2010 10:54 PM EDT up reply actions

Nor would I.

Though I wouldn’t be surprised to see him return to the Cubs.

by Tarkus on Oct 11, 2010 10:54 PM EDT up reply actions

Didn’t complete that thought. For 2.5 mil, I’d have no problem with him as a backup. Plus no matter what Braves fans think, plenty of baseball guys think he’s a good defender which means he’s got trade value.

by The Goche on Oct 11, 2010 10:53 PM EDT up reply actions

Sorry, I spaced Freeman.

And I agree about Gonzo, but it’s not a done deal.

by Tarkus on Oct 11, 2010 10:54 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah, I wouldn’t be shocked if they don’t pick up Gonzo’s, but as I argued the other day, I think that as much as we need to upgrade in LF and CF that the money it would take to replace a SS is needed to get a legit LF and CF.

Erm, how are they racist?

Perhaps ill-informed, or misguided you feel, but I do not see how it’s racist? What race are the folks at TGP hating on?

The reason why people outside of Atlanta have some… Distaste for, and find the Braves mildly racially charged is the name and the tomahawk chop. It’s sort of a P.R. disaster if you look at it from the outside.

Imagine if there was a team called the San Jose Japs, and when they were batting played http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/8d/AsianRiff_koto.ogg while all their fans pulled the corners of their eyes up. You’d go “That’s pretty racist.”

You guys chased Chief Nocahomer outta town because it was basically a minstrel show, and rightly so. It’s time to retire the chop as being a relic of a differently, less enlightened time also.
