Braves Quote For The Day: The Giants Feel Our Pain

From Grant at McCovey Chronicles regarding last night's game:

Braves fans: we’ve been there. It’s of no consolation to you right now, but we know your pain. We’ve had our sternum pulled out through our nose too. Like, oh, Friday night. The Giants didn’t really deserve to win that game. But I’m pretty danged sure the Braves didn’t, either. They both probably should have just given that game to Doctors Without Borders and taken the tax write-off.

Yep.

it's easier to say that

when your team is the one up 2-1 though.

yeah

see game 1.

and that pitch that he called Heyward out on last night was absolutely ridiculous. He must be buddy-buddy with Hohn.

I knew when Bobby threw down the hat on him Friday that Sunday was not going to be fun to watch.

Let's not forget......

the Posey safe call, when he was clearly OUT! Then, he ultimately scored.

just one more ump that doesn’t seem very impartial towards the Braves. if the call is close, it’s going against us.

As Braves fans

we’ve seen every imaginable way this team can lose in the postseason. thank goodness #6 won’t be around to mismanage next season. that will exercise some demons.

hopefully Bobby’s last good deed for the Braves has already been done: get Freddi Gonzalez in here, next year.

This

I think its all but set in stone that Fredi will be here next year… There’s been no mention of anything other than that Fredi turned down an interview with the cubs… I think the decision’s already been made

I would bet that Bobby asked him when the Fish cut him loose.

and I’m sure he said yes. they’re just waiting until this season finally ends before announcing it.

Easy to say

Up 2-1… If we had our everyday lineup to face their everyday lineup this series would already be over and we’d be headed to Philly… Not making excuses but i doubt they’ve had anything close to the amount of adversity this team has had this year

9th inning Heyward AB

4 Balls and only 1 Strike thrown. What a joke man. I think the umpires reliability has to be questioned at this point. A missed call at 2b in G1, a missed call at 1b in G2, and a terrible strike zone in G3. Is wearing a Giants T-shirt under that umpires uniform? It makes you wonder.

by BravesFanScout on Oct 11, 2010 11:50 AM EDT up reply actions

and yet nobody does nothing. because the Braves are the team that ump's like to joke about after the game.

Not defending the strikezone here, but…

Heyward has got to swing the bat in that situation. It’s the 9th inning of the third game. We know the script of this dog and pony show by now. You can’t take those pitches (especially when you’ve been flailing at junk in the dirt). Heyward is one of our best hitters and he has the reach to drive those outside pitches.

I think he’s just mentally lost out there right now – and the bad play in RF didn’t help

He’s 21 years old and will be a star player for many years to come, but he is getting a cold, hard lesson in playoff baseball right now. He has a great head on his shoulders for his age so hopefully he is building on this.

regardless, it’s a fucking joke that that pitch was called a strike. one of the worst strikeout calls I’ve ever seen.

Agreed

I was fuming when that ball was called a strike (not to mention the other handful of balls 3-6 inches off the plate). But, Heyward has to be protecting the plate in that situation. If it is remotely close, take that bat off of your shoulder.

I think a new hitting coach would do wonders for Heyward. Right now anything high and inside gets him hard, and he tends to let ptches down the middle go for strikes, like he can’t imagine a pitcher daring to throw him a good pitch.

It shocks him so he just sits there. I’d almost love to see Vlad Guerrero show him a few things about bad ball hitting to do once in a while, or maybe have Ichiro give a few pointers.

totally agree

I just want an even playing field. Hohn…. I mean…. Emmel has really tipped the scales this series, which otherwise would have been fairly even.

Agreed here also. Got nothing against the Giants whatsoever, except the next two games. (I do think series heads back to San Fran)

by Broccoman on Oct 11, 2010 1:16 PM EDT up reply actions

Can they really sympathize

After going through so many years of heartbreaking finishes, the Braves fans really have no rival in the shitty empty feeling department. This loss was the worst loss feeling wise, that I have ever had as a Braves fan. I’m in this weird zombie like mood where my thoughts have become manic fluctuating between fuming anger at Conrad/Cox to pity for Conrad to an emotion that I haven’t classified yet when I saw Lincecum and Sanchez go apeshit in their celebration.

No one knows what it like to be a Braves fan, Giants are only good one year out of a decade, for the Braves to consistently let you down year after year and dangle that carrot in front of you is definitely a worse ending feeling than say a Royals fans ending feeling when they start laughing about it by mid April. This has become one of those is it better to have love and lost debates…..

So in conclusion, the sympathy isn’t really genuine, guilt maybe, knowing they have been gifted 2 games in this series. It’s an empty gesture and waste of time.

Without me thinking clearly or going back and checking, have the Braves given up an earned run in the two losses? I can’t remember if it was an earned it the first game, because obviously it shouldn’t have been a run at all.

There are no Giants in Braves Country. Well, except Jason Heyward.

the run that tied the game last night was earned – a clean single off Dunn (and charged to Kimbrel, who walked a batter and gave up a hit)

The Brooks error let the go ahead run score, which was unearned

Has anybody else noticed how poorly the REDS played?

As aggravating as it has been to be a Braves fan this week, the Reds are the team that genuinely deserves criticism. Their defense and approach at the plate has actually been worse than ours. They have the NL MVP, a healthy and potent lineup and (arguably) the best defensive 3rd baseman of his generation (Rolen) doing a Brooks Conrad impersonation.

This is a team by the way, that had one playoff appearance in the past 20 years. And their home crowd was just completely dead. I mean that team, and their fans, were just lifeless. That was one of the worst playoff series I’ve ever seen. And the Twins are running a close second as well.

But I guess you get a pass when you’re playing the Almighty Phillies and Yankees, hallowed be their names and revenue streams.

by DCP916 on Oct 11, 2010 1:00 PM EDT reply actions

This Phils team is probably the best team since the 1999 Yankees. I expect them to make everyone look bad.

by roberty on Oct 11, 2010 4:36 PM EDT up reply actions

Does Conrad get a full loss share for Game 3?

Talk about a swing from the bottom of the 8th to the top of the ninth. Now even if we win game 4, we are staring at a Game 5 with a guy who struck out 14 on an off night.

by crime_dog on Oct 11, 2010 1:19 PM EDT reply actions

I couldn’t agree more. The Braves and Giants are both horrible. The Phils should automatically be placed in the world series.
