PrintThis was certainly not the type of performance we were expecting nor hoping for from this team tonight. Brandon Beachy pitched his heart out but a rough sixth inning from both Beachy and Peter Moylan, combined with an error from Brooks Conrad lead to a close game becoming a blowout.
Beachy pitched well, lasting 5.2 innings and striking out five while walking just one. He allowed seven hits, but if he shows that control he will be useful in the post-season and as a starter next year. Christhian Martinez gave up four runs in relief, which put the Braves even further back. Mike Minor appeared in relief in the game's final two innings, pitching 1.1 innings and striking out two batters.
Jimmy Rollins' grand slam was by far the biggest play of the game. The score was 3-2 when he hit the home run off the first pitch he saw from Mike Dunn.
Overall, this was just an unfortunate loss. Derrek Lee came through with three RBI hits, giving him four in total. Other than Lee, Conrad was the only other player to record two hits.
Tomorrow, Tommy Hanson will take on Vance Worley as the Phillies adjusted their rotation last second. Worley has pitched well this year, but Hanson is the better pitcher. Hopefully, the Braves come to play better tomorrow.

I really think we had the game without the Conrad play. It would have been huge momentum shift for Moylan coming in and getting the 3rd out on one pitch. 4-0 SD right now, this is a nightmare. Come on guys!

That I’m not the only one who saw it that way. It seemed like Joe was trying to pin it on Infante, which I couldn’t buy, at all.
Even after that play, Moylan can’t walk a man with the bases loaded, not on those last two pitches.

Kept showing Infante like it was his fault but it was totally Conrad. The ball was hit hard right to Conrad and it was a catcher running to first! It was a no brainer to go to first. I mean he could have even tried to get the runner at third who was barely running. I’m so frustrated right now.

Werth had no more business on second than I did. Wolf really choked on that call.
All the more infuriating because he rang Omar up with two men on later on a similar pitch.

Infante has no other job but to be on 2nd there if needed. You don’t assume. Any 2b knows it. Conrad was fairly far behind the bag, and if he can’t get there 2nd is an okay option. You get caught watching the action, you get burned.

It was all on Brooksy to make the make the play and he didn’t. We have to be smarter. The phils are going to play us hard every time. We have to come hungry tomorrow because the season depends on it.

In person, Melky is worse than on TV. He is an embarassment to the league. Mcclouth was bad too. I can’t figure out why our OF didn’t know how to play the wind blowing in from LF/CF at 20 mph? Unprofessional.

He meant it.
We gotta earn these wins, which means DEFENSE has to keep their mind in the game and not give them extra outs.

I was also at the game last year where Matt Diaz got picked off at third to end the game that essentially ended our playoff hopes. I was crushed

I don't know how many times this year
I’ve said, “I HATE baseball!” But of course, it’s never long before I’m professing my love for the game again. It is definitely taxing on one’s nerves.
I’m really impressed by Beachy, does anybody have a clue what we can do with him next year? I keep reading that Teheran might be ready by June or July. Hudson, Hanson, Lowe, Jurrjens, Minor, Beachy and Teheran…With more on their heels.

generally, the braves/baseball in general drive me to drink
I was at the bar and after the conrad error/moylan walk/rollins grand slam, I was so depressed… I just sat there and watched the rest of the game like I was taking some sort of painful medication, and when it was over, got up and went home. I had no desire to stay out at all. That game sapped all the life and fun out of me

I can't tolerate another weekend like the last one
Braves losing 2-3 to the nats, GA losing…. thank god the falcons salvaged something for me on Sunday. Can tomorrow be called the “day of win” where every team I need or want to win pulls one out? Georgia, the Braves, and San Fran all need to win for me tomorrow

When people in the stands know what the play call is, that is pretty bad. Plus, he is just saying vanilla and predictable with his play calling and just won’t call a game to the strength of his team (i.e. this year he needs more short passes with Murray to open up the running game. Play action ain’t fooling anyone right now)

Conrad has had some big hits so I can’t fault him for his hitting.
How many errors would Glaus make had he started at third instead of Conrad? Thats three errors for Conrad already since he took over third on Monday.
Glaus' lack of range has to be factored into your equation somehow

if you mix it with water, its not really sweet at all
that’s generally what I mix it with. Pour a half firefly and half water and you’ll be well on your way. If you like tea, I recommend trying it at least once

I didn’t read all the comments but I’m a little disappointed that JC Boscans first big league at bat was tonight, and he scored all the way from first. He’ll prolly never get another at bat. Maybe it’s just me but that trip around the bases would make all those years in the minors worth it for me. I think I just made myself cry a little.
