Does DOB have a hardon for Damon?
OK, we're all well aware of the Damon rumors and speculation that have been flying in recent weeks. All the supposed interest, all the teams that have dropped out, etc. Has anyone noticed, though, that with the exception of a couple of times Bowman has jumped into the fray virtually all of our Damon rumors have come from DOB? For the most part that neither surprised me nor did it seem out of the ordinary in any way, perhaps he was just keeping up with a lot of different info from a lot of different sources. However, in the last week or two things have gotten a little weird- even though Wren maintains he won't be adding any more majors pieces and Bowman says we've dropped out on Damon altogether, DOB has fired back that we still maintain a lot of interest. Again, that in and of itself is not all that strange, but now today MLBTR ran a post saying Damon considered retirement. As of 12:38 Central time that post was updated to say that a source close to Damon said he had not considered retirement- and who reported this? That's right, good ol' DOB claims to have a source near Damon refuting the retirement story.
Basically, it breaks down like this- when all the writers and all the Braves FO people say we're out on Damon, DOB fires back that we're still after him. Then, when it's reported that Damon may retire, it's DOB who fires back that "No, he's not retiring!" Does anyone else get the sense from this that DOB is trying to keep the Damon hype (assuming there was some to begin with) alive single-handedly? He's the only guy maintaining these positions and it's starting to get downright creepy. I don't live in Atlanta so maybe some of you locals can shed some light on this for me. I've generally like DOB's work until this mess, but I'm starting to get that vibe that he's not so much reporting as he is trying to manufacture interest because he seemingly REALLY wants Johnny Damon to land in Atlanta. Anyone else get that vibe? Am I way off base? Maybe I just have too much time on my hands...?

I’d have a hard-on for Damon too if I saw a good team that was still lacking a pure leadoff hitter. Say what you will about his defense, but he at least gets on base at a pretty good clip and strikes out less than 100 each year.
Despite that, I’d be inclined to pass. This team has enough LH as it is.
Damon’s not anything we don’t have though
McLouth’s OBP past 3 seasons: .353
Damon’s lifetime OBP: .355
Our current leadoff hitter basically the same as Damon.

except younger, faster, with more power, better D...
oh, and we already have him on the payroll so he doesn’t increase that.
Shouldn’t you use Damon’s OBP for the last three seasons as well instead of picking sample size to prove a point? I agree that it’s not much of a difference but Damon’s early years weren’t anything special from what i remember

I don’t have a strong opinion on the Damon situation but I hate it just as much as you when people use stats that are cherry-picked or don’t make sense. So for the sake of this discussion, Damon’s OBP over the past 3 seasons is .364.
Yeah, I was in the same boat.
Looked it up and decided it wasn’t really worth it since it was relatively similar.

my thoughts as well....
would make good sense for Boras to have a few of the local beat reporters pumping up his guy, driving up interest either real or fake.
I still want Huddy to stick DOB in his face
I bet Tim would whoop his ass too. DOB is like 5’7 150lbs, right?
Remember folks, I'm almost always wrong.

Yeah, Huddy has a huge advantage at 5’9" 160…

and FTR
Braves have him listed at 6-1, 170. They lie about that all the time tho. Didnt the Brewers once have the Prince listed at 220 or something like that?

Haha, that listing for Huddy is hilarious. And Prince at 220? He hasn’t been 220 since middle school.

maybe he’s just “big boned”. ha, that’s what I always say anyways…even though I’m not enough close to The Prince’s size.

Prince is funny man. I saw him in AAA back in 05 and I was talking to him after the game, I asked him why he was wearing number 66, since it’s a pretty odd number. He said, “It’s the biggest jersey they had.” He looked at me and said, “You know what I’m talking about.” I laughed and said, “Yeah, all growing up I had the highest number because that was the biggest jersey.” He laughed and said “Me too!”

last year in Spring Training when the whole Ken Griffey Jr. thing happened
DOB jumped the gun and said it was a done deal (and continued to praise himself for “the scoop”) which reportedly pissed KGjr and his family off. Of course, Griffey went to Seattle and the Braves were without a LF’er. In the clubhouse, supposedly Timmy had his way with DOB and cussed him out, and then had to be restrained from really getting into it with DOB.
