Career .300/.400/.500 hitter, only 14 in the history of baseball
Joe Posnanski writes a fantastic article for SI about the consistency of Chipper Jones and the Atlanta Braves. Well worth a read... it will cheer you up.

Gotta love JoePoz. Can’t think of many writers who are a greater pleasure to read.
If Albert played in the AFL, they’d have to rename it the AZ/NM Fall League, based on where his homers landed.

Only sports writer I enjoy more is John Feinstein
Living on the Black is one of the best books on baseball I have ever read.

The Punch was also a good (if grisly) read.

You are right.
It is a great article, but then, he is a great writer — one of my all-time favorite sportswriters.
I didn’t need to be cheered up, though, because I BELIEVE!

I BELIEVE TOO!!!
People will come Ray. The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again.

I think I’m irritating some people in my end-of-the-season fight against negativity. I just couldn’t keep it under control any longer.

That article did make me happy. It’s refreshing after listening to ESPN completely disregard the Braves for all these years.

It’s crazy how good Chipper is. Over the course of 162 games for his career, he averages a .308 AVG, .948 OPS, 32 HR, 108 RBI, 109 R, 100 BB, 35 2B, and 11 SB. Wow.
For comparison, Dale Murphy, the last great Atlanta hitter, over the course of 162 games during his tenure in Atlanta averages a .268 AVG, .829 OPS, 31 HR, 96 RBI, 93 R, 77 BB, 26 2B, and 13 SB.
Again, wow.

He is easily among the 3 best switch hitters ever...
and quite possibly among the best ever at 3rd?
Offensively though, his career numbers aren’t too far off Constanza’s beloved Seven.—.298 avg, .977 ops, 36 hr, 102 rbi, 113 runs, 117 bb, 23 2b, 10 sb. Eddie Murray’s 162 avg is a bit worse, but then he stuck around a while (over 3000 games played, Mantle is 2400+ and Chipper over 2100).

I have great news
so i was watching the history channel, cause well im a loser a bit of a nerd apparently, and they were talking about parallel universes. they exist… so in another universe the Braves are gonna win the WC, if not this one. Actually in more than one universe we will win the WC… and we even won the NL East.
